This report discusses an experiment to study the effects of environmental conditions on the crossover frequencies of Sordaria Fimicola. Indeed, the research conducted by scientists consisted of observing the sexual reproductions of Sordaria Fimicola from two slopes of the “Evolution Canyon” in order to better understand the evolutionary processes of these species. The two slopes, the South Facing Slope (SFS) and the North Facing Slope (NFS) have environmental differences. In fact, The NFS have a cool, humid and shady climate conditions, while the SFS experiences high temperatures, solar radiations and dryness. In order to answer this question, scientists conduct further researches in laboratory. Indeed, they mate two strains of Sordaria Fimicola and analyze the spores produced. Three different type of asci could occur. The 4:4 type occurs when there is no recombination and the 2:4:2 and 2:2:2:2 occurs when there is recombination. For this experiment strains were exposed to both harsh and controlled conditions. From this results, our hypothesis is that the difference in crossover recombination is based on the climate conditions, so the harsh environmental stresses affect the frequency of recombination. Developing this experiment leads us to research questions that we will try to to answer throughout this lab report. Does crossover occur during the color mutant x wild type crosses? What is the overall crossover frequency of each of the color gene with the centromere in organisms grown under standard laboratory growth condition? What are the frequencies of the two crossover types for each color strains? Is there any variation in the ratio of the two crossover types between the two color
