In the movie The Princess Bride, the outlaw Vizzini is challenged to a game of wits by Wesley. Vizzini is offered two goblets of wine and must determine which one holds the poison. This situation includes all the four elements of a game as described by Professor Stevens. The first element of a game is players. A game must have at least two players. In the movie The Princess Bride, Vizzini and Wesley are the players in the game. The second element of a game is common knowledge. Common knowledge is where every player has the same information and is aware that the other players have the same information. It was common knowledge to both Wesley and Vizzini that only Wesley knew which goblet had poison in it. It was also common knowledge that only one goblet could be chosen by Vizzini in that they would both drink their wine at the same time. The third element of the game is payoffs. The payoff of the game is the degree to which each player is satisfied with an outcome. The payoff for Vizzini and Wesley was very similar in that the opponent would be dead from drinking the poison and the winner would get the Princess. The fourth element of the game is strategy. Strategy is what decision would be made by the player in every situation the player finds himself in. When Vizzini found himself in this situation of choosing a cup and whether to be a clever man or a great fool, he decided to use a strategy that would create a diversion and switch the cups ensuring he alone knew which cup he picked. Wesley found himself in a different situation. Since he was the only one who was in control of what cup to put the poison in, he decided to put the poison in both cups because he has spent years developing a tolerance of iocaine poison. With this strategy, Wesley insured no matter what cup Vizzini picked it would contain poison. In the end, Wesley’s strategy left Vizzini dead and

Ps3 vs Xbox 360

...PS3 vs. Xbox 360 These two gaming platforms have been going at it for years now. It’s time to settle which one is the better system. The Sony PlayStation franchise was the first to release in 1994. Microsoft finally released their Xbox in 2001. However I’m not comparing the first Xbox to the first PlayStation I will be comparing the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  Starting with features they both have, the ps3 and 360 have, of course, exclusive games that can only be played on that specific system. For example halo is for the 360 and god of war is for ps3. They both have an internet browser and apps; they are Wi-Fi enabled meaning they can detect wireless internet. Through Xbox live and PlayStation network, they allow you to play with friends and meet people all over the world (the name tells what system has what). Now the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are generally made for the same they can do different things that set them apart. The ps3 has a Xross media Bar (XMB) which allows you to chat with friends while pausing the action in-game. This comes in handy when people message you while you’re in a good game and do not want to interrupt it. While playing users can earn trophies which so how bad ass you are. The trophies are ranked as follows: Bronze, silver, gold and platinum which can only be attain when you achieve all other trophies for the game. Keep in mind that some trophies are easier to get than others. While in-game the XMB can be used to invite players to your gaming session...

Xbox vs Playstation

...XBOX vs. PlayStation Kathryn Davis COM 170 August 7, 2013 Alfred Chavez Xbox vs. PlayStation There is an age old debate about which gaming system is the better one, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. It all depends on one’s preference. There are advantages and disadvantages to each gaming console. If any gamer was to be asked which gaming console, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 or Sony’s PlayStation 3, they prefer, there is likely to be a heated debate without any clear answer and mostly fans loyal to their brand. Both the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 have extraordinary media capabilities. Netflix and HULU Plus are just some of the apps that are available on the Xbox and PlayStation. Not only are both systems able to instantly stream and watch movies and TV shows, they can browse the internet and watch videos on YouTube, as long as they are connected to the internet. Although both gaming systems were made to primarily play video games both are able to transform into DVD and CD players. Like most media devices today, both the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3 play movies and games in High Definition as long there is an HDMI cable available and a High Definition TV. High Definition is what makes the games and movies seem real and so appealing to people other than gamers. Sony and Microsoft have a loyal, hardcore fan base and both companies are always trying to please their fans and come up with the next best thing. After the Nintendo’s Wii came out, Microsoft and Sony pulled out the big guns to compete...

Swot Analysis

...the Nintendo Corporation’s timeline. Before home games systems were even created kids used to have to go out to the arcade and bring plenty of quarters to play games. Parents used to be worried because anything could happen to their kids on the way to, at, and coming from the arcade. With this threat gamers came up with an idea to make a home game system, “Introduced in 1985, the NES was an instant hit. Over the course of the next two years, it almost single-handedly revitalized the video game industry. Selling over 60 million units, people brought games like Mario and Zelda into their homes for the first time on the NES (Corporate, 2011)”.  With the success of that game system Nintendo picked it up a notch and came out with the Nintendo game boy in 1989, that system sold 150 million systems worldwide. With the success of that game system they dropped the Super Nintendo in 1991 which sold 49 million worldwide.  Then with five years to develop, with 3D graphics they dropped the Nintendo 64. Since they were seeing so much success they produced the game boy pocket, “It was smaller than the original Game Boy and came in a variety of colors (Corporate, 2011). The in 01’ the game boy advance came out and it brandished better graphics than all the rest of the other game boy’s. The same year Nintendo disrespected the competition by coming out with the Nintendo game cube in 2001 which made the Nintendo 64 look like yesterday’s news. The Game boy Spa that came out in 2003 flipped up and down...

Game Addiction

...Addicted to Video Games When you think of video games, you don’t think of an addiction, but video games can be as addictive as gambling or alcohol. When my son was around 3 years old, I bought a PlayStation video game system and he would sit and watch me play. One day my son asked me if he could play, it was a 2 player game, so I showed him how to play. I would play from time to time, and as time went on he became better and better. It was like nothing I had ever seen, he was a natural. As the years went by and my son grew older, he was playing more games and he had asked for a Nintendo Gameboy. He soon grew bored of it, he asked for a Nintendo Wii for Christmas and Santa made his wish come true. As the months went by, as a reward for doing chores he would receive a game instead of money. Before long, he had every accessory and he had received 22 games. The years passed and again he grew bored of the Wii, so he asked for the Xbox 360 video game system, and of course I gave in. He became more involved in playing games as the years went by. He always would ask for the newest games, the newest wireless controllers, or headsets. He began to play more in the multiplayer online game venues, and had a list of friends from all over the world. He plays the Xbox any and every chance he gets, beating complete games in as little as 4 hours, or playing campaigns in the online multiplayer area for hours on end. When he plays the game so much, it tends to get in the way of his everyday...

After the success of the Nintendo 64 then came the Nintendo game cube in 2001 then finally, came the Nintendo Wii. The project shows the innovation and technological enhancements in the products throughout the brief history mentioned above. The product – Nintendo Wii It was released in november2006 and it was an instant success as it was much awaited as unlike its competitors the Xbox 360 by Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 by Sony as it had virtual reality based game play. It is the smallest home console ever. Its controllers are the Wii Remote and nunchuk .The Wii remote uses accelerometers and infrared detection to allow for motion sensing. It has arrow keys and a button on the bottom which is useful as a trigger in shooting games. They are not always used in synchronisation as not all games require the nunchuk, but if required it is added to the Wii remote through a wire and shares batteries with it but to connect with the main console they use wireless technology.
