I am received inspiration from two main places that I can think of. First of all I have received inspiration from a spiritual place. I was also raised, as a Christian, to love others as myself despite any of our differences, so I put though words to heart and realize that if I was in a situation similar to theirs that I would love it if someone could help me out like I hope to do for them. Secound I would say would be my friends in Boy Scouts, I was blessed with a group of boys that care about each other and the community. We all care about others, and I saw them, and I wanted to be like them, which help my think about what I could contribute to others. Volunteering at the food has required effort on my part. I have sacrificed opportunities to hang out with my friends and do other activities that I would of found enjoyable. I tried to encourage my friends, both in and out of Scouts to try and join me, and I have had small success, but not a lot I'm afraid. The most difficult part was giving up playing games with my friends in order to do this. …show more content…
Since I was there to assist, work got done a lot faster then what would have been possible. This allowed them to have more available time in their day, whether to study for an exam, or just relax. I also helped out the couple that owns the shelter, how although they are still strong, are getting up their in age and need a new younger generation to help out. If I was to give a number, I don't believe I could. Although it helped a lot of people get food, I'm sure the food bank could of survived without me. I would like to say I definitely help 5 people, who over the years I have worked along side with and became their friends. I hope my volunteering will continue in the future, cause I want to help people to out of those bad times like my family was

Faith Diversity

...Mancuso, 2010). Numbers this high show that religion plays a major role to many and with that healthcare providers need to be aware of their own beliefs, while maintaining a respectful and supportive environment for the patients they are caring for and their beliefs. Patients along with nurses often look to their faith when in times of stress and illness. This paper will discuss the Native American spirituality philosophy compared to the Christian philosophy. Native American Spirituality According to the United States census (2000) “4.3 million people (1.5% of the total United States population) self-identified as American Indian or Alaska Native (as cited in Hubbert, 2008). Native American healing practices may include traditional healers such as medicine men and women, herbalists, and shaman who work to return the individual to optimal health. Rituals of healing and purification ceremonies, sand painting, spiritual chants, dancing, therapeutic sings, along with special herbs, teas, foods and activities may be participated in (Braswell & Wong, 1994). Christian Discipleship

...Research Paper: Discipleship Because I became a Christian at an early age, there are many terms and ideas used in the church that I never pondered upon; I simply accepted them. For example, the term "disciple" I identify as one of Jesus' twelve closest followers, one of the paper characters placed on the felt board during Sunday school. Through my research, I have discovered that while accepting Christ through faith alone grants us salvation, to become a disciple of Christ, or practice discipleship, requires work and commitment from the believer. The word disciple, or the Greek word mathetes, is used over 220 times in the Gospels, but not once in the Epistles, those letters written right after Christ's resurrection ("A Church-speak, n. d.). As customary for the Greek usage of the word, mathetes refers to a student who has personal interaction with their teacher. This offers one explanation as to why the word disciple is not used in the Epistles. No one had direct contact with Jesus anymore because He had gone on to Heaven to be with God. Another explanation for the absence of the word in the Epistles is that the churches that these letters were directed to were aware of Jesus' teachings about discipleship. It is possible that the writer did not mention discipleship because it would have been redundant to do so (Haines, 1999). According to the lecture notes, a disciple is a "student" or a "pupil" and the act of discipleship is "advancing the cause of the kingdom". During...

...Buddhism Essay Candice Graham Rel/133 December 10, 2014 John Shear Buddhism Essay Buddhism is a religion with over 300 million followers around the world. Its origin is about over 2,000 years ago, and Siddhartha Gautoma, or Gotama was known as Buddha the awakened one. Buddha was open-minded to be involved in teachings because he felt as though he was awakened to have an awareness of his own nature. Buddha believed that his thinking was the only way to “prevent spiritual understanding that he had been seeking so he renounced a life or wealth, and power to become a spiritual seeker” (Hardy, 2014). The founder of Buddhism in this world is Buddha Shakyamuni. Shakyamuni was a royal prince who was born in the 6th century B.C.E. in Lumbini, located in Northern India. The Northern India is now a part of a place called Nepal. Buddhism has four spiritual teachings that they abide by, which are called the “Four Noble Truths”. When Buddha preached his first sermon he outlines the spiritual truths calling them Four Noble Truths, and these were “The suffering is characteristics of human existence, the suffering is caused by the longing of pleasure and the avoidance of pain, that it is not necessary to suffer and there is a path to end suffering” (Hardy, 2014). Buddha has gained disciples and they became his followers known as the first Sangha, who basically became part of the Buddhist community of monks. The monks were known as men because at the first only men followed Buddha...

Spiritual Gifts

...Sherri L Hull CHMN 201-D05 04/07/2014 Spiritual Gifts Paper Part One: What are my top 2 spiritual gift? Do I agree with the results? Why or Why not? The top two spiritual gifts from my assessment were Administration and Teaching, with Pastor/Shepherd receiving the same assessment score. Based on my background in Purchasing and Job Costing, I would have to agree with the Administration score; however, Teaching and Pastor/Shepherd has me somewhat confused. The descriptions of each of these, and how they appear to go hand-in-hand does; however, make sense. According to the assessment descriptions, if a person scores high in Teaching but not in Pastor/Shepherding they probably would not make a good Sunday school teacher; therefore, receiving the same score arouses my curiosity what does God see something in me, that I do not. My position as a job costing supervisor has taught me to account for each material being used in the manufacturing industry. Along with my former purchasing responsibilities, both positions back up the assessment score in Administration. The assessment further defines my score in Teaching/Shepherding, as a person who enjoys research. At times this person can be technical. This would represent the details of any given work or research being done, everything needs an explanation. It also defines the person as one who needs to be accommodating when deadlines near and pressure increases. This skillset may become beneficial to the calling I believe...

Religion and Spirituality in Medicine

...governmental arena most people will argue that they are both on separate planes and should remain that way. But when people were asked if there is a place for religion in the medical field, the majority of those asked will say that they would prefer their physicians inquire about their individual faith and beliefs. In fact, polls indicate that the U.S. Population is highly religious; that most people believe in Heaven and hell. The same people also believe in the healing power of prayer and the capacity of faith to aid in the recovery from disease (N.E.J.O.M. 342). Religion and Spirituality have become an intricate part of patient care in the last 20 plus years. Religion is understood as a set of beliefs, rituals and practices usually embodied within an institution or an organization. Religion is more generalized and all-inclusive. Spirituality is more defined and specific to each individuals Religion. Spirituality is thought of as a search for what is sacred in life, one’s deepest values, along with a relationship with God, or a higher power, that transcends the self (McCormick). Doctors are now including the “spiritual history” in their initial assessment of a patient they are treating. The Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations, who is the primary accreditor of health care institutions, now expects the spiritual history of a patient to be documented with various approaches for...
