...beginning of a special adventure in my life as a student. I took an English class 0890, at Utah Valley University. Now, in the last days of this class, almost four months later, I can look back and see myself with a lot of problems in my writing that needed to be fixed. These four months in this class have helped me solve many writing challenges. I am far from perfect in becoming a good writer but I have learned that hard work and perseverance can produce wonderful results. Even though I learned many things, the three man points that I want to talk about are the following: quote analysis scaffold, grammar, and research online. The first month of the English 0890 class was intense, the students had to do a special analysis writing exercise called “Quote analysis scaffold”. It is the developing of many skills in one exercise. It helps develop reading and vocabulary comprehension. After the quote analysis scaffold is made, it can be used in the essay as a hook or concluding thought. We ended up doing around ten of these exercises. After writing the quote, provided from the teacher, this analysis was made from the following steps: The first thing was to do a research online about the author and make two to three sentences, on average, about who he was and what were his major contributions to society. Second, the students had to look for unknown words and their definition in the dictionary. After this, the third part was for the students to find the definition using their own words,...

...Kendra Strenth Samford University Classroom Assessment Techniques-One Minute Paper Classroom assessment techniques (CAT’s) are assessments conducted in the classroom to assess student learning. This type of assessment helps identify progress of the student and also identify areas that may need improvement. All types of CAT’s are to help facilitate the learning environment (Rowles, 2009). CAT’s are a formative type of assessment which involves immediate interaction between the instructor and student. They are used to assess students’ learning, attitudes, study habits, response to classroom teaching strategies and to help the instructor plan for future teaching strategies and concepts (Rowles, 2009). There are three phases to developing and using CAT’s. The first phase involves the planning phase: determining what setting it will be used in, what information will be obtained and what CAT will be used. The second phase is the actual implementation of the CAT. The final stage involves the results and responding to the CAT. The instructor should review the results and report the finding to the class and reflect on the CAT to identify if it accomplished the goal of the first phase (Rowles, 2009). I chose to evaluate the One-Minute Paper CAT. The One-Minute-Paper has been used the most and is a quick and easy way to assess classroom teaching and learning (Angelo & Cross, 1993). To use the One-Minute Paper, the instructor ask the students to write a response to...

...Running head: VARK Analysis VARK Analysis: How Do I Learn Best? Jolanta Nietupska Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429v Date: January 21, 2012 Summary: VARK learning styles theories were designed by Neil Fleming in 1987. These theories describe learning styles, distinct types of a learner’s processing information, and identify the best ways to study. The VARK learning styles theories divide learning components into four parts including: visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic styles. What’s more, VARK learning styles help to identify people’s preferred learning styles so that their work achieves the best outcome. Furthermore, VARK helps people develop study skills which benefit learning and teaching experiences. This paper will discuss VARK analysis learning styles, determine my preferred learning strategies, and changes that I need to make in my study habits in order to become a successful student. First, the VARK learning styles theory is based on the idea that different people learn in different ways. The VARK theory uses four main sensory receivers (acronym VARK): visual, aural, read-write, and kinesthetic in order to best serve the needs of a successful student. Neil Fleming said:” VARK learning styles are based on modalities-channels by which human expression can take place and is composed of a combination of perception and memory” (Fleming, 2006). The VARK analyses believe that visual learners learn best...

...Management Information Systems - Westminster College - Fulton, Missouri Why Study Management Information Systems (MIS) at Westminster? * Our MIS program builds on the strengths of our Business and Computer Sciences offerings as well as our liberal arts education. Classes blend theory and practice in “hot” areas—issues and technologies that researchers and practitioners are currently interested in. * Each class is uniquely designed for Westminster, in response to recent scholarly findings and rising trends in the field. * Courses are not technology driven, though technology is adequately integrated into the major. Therefore, students never have to play catch-up with technology that is imposed externally. Instead, all discussions are driven by business strategy and user needs. * Majors become user and data advocates who understand that the most critical elements of an information system are not hardware and software, but the people and information. * Dr. Phelps, who designed and implemented the major, has degrees and research, and consulting experience in all of the relevant fields of MIS: business, decision science, computer science, and information technology. So, “knowing a little about a lot” allows her to see the best benefits of these synergies and bring those synergies into the classroom. Major Highlights In your formal MIS studies, you will learn organized approaches to gathering, processing, and presenting information, in order to improve...

...l Race and Juvenile Delinquency by Dubien Tshimanga SOCIOLOGY & ANTHROPOLOGY CAPSTONE PRINCIPIA COLLEGE APRIL 2015 ABSTRACT Throughout history, the struggle of minorities has been seen in many facets of life such as in history, literature, music and film: Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi fought for the right of unrepresented minorities. Books such as Too Kill a Mocking Bird spoke to the prejudices of a community. Movies such as Roots illustrated the hardship of the slaves. From the Roman’s persecution of Christians to today’s rap song lyrics about economic disparities the plight of the minority has been fought for millennium. This research examines the struggle of minorities within the juvenile justice system and the differential rates of adjudication and length of sentencing between the white majority and the black minority juvenile offenders. During the course of this research, additional insights were gained from an internship at a youth correctional center as well as drawing on my own personal experience as a refugee from Gabon. The findings of my research demonstrate that minority offenders do receive harsher sentences than the whites, and that there are several factors contributing to higher rates of juvenile delinquency among African Americans; primarily education and community. To consider the struggle of minorities is important because it creates awareness that the maltreatment of a minority group by the dominant majority often...
