...Airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue promote low-cost and high-efficiency carriers by giving extremely competitive fares and outstanding customer service. Reservation system for these airlines are so important that when these companies need to make sweeping IT upgrades, their relationships with customers and their brands can be tarnished if things go awry. This can be seen when in 2009, both airlines upgraded their airline reservation systems, SabreSonic CSS was launch, customers struggled to place reservations, and the WestJet Web Site crashed repeatedly. WestJet’s call centers were also overwhelmed, and customers experienced slowdowns at airports. This delay provoked a deluge of customer dissatisfaction. In addition to the increase in customer complaint calls, customers also took to the Internet to express their displeasure. Angry flyers expressed outrage on Facebook and flooded WestJet’s site, causing the repeated crashes. These problems impact both of the airlines operational activities and decision making to change their initial carrier which had started out as a system designed for smaller start-up airlines to a better carrier. Other than that, both airlines needed more processing power to deal with a far greater volume of customers. They also needed features like the ability to link prices and seat inventories to other airlines with whom they cooperated. Both JetBlue and WestJet contracted with Sabre Holdings to upgrade their airline reservation systems. The differences...

...If you are considering a professional aviation career, think seriously about the adjective that modifies aviation. "Professional," as defined by the dictionary, means "of, engaged in, or worthy of the high standards of, a profession; designating or of a school, especially a graduate school, offering instruction in a profession." Further consider "professional" as a noun — "a person practicing a profession; a person who engages in some art, sport, etc. for money, especially for his livelihood, rather than as a hobby; a person who does something with great skill." These definitions could have been written with aviation in mind because it definitely has high standards, and the people who meet these standards certainly must exhibit great skill. Aviation professionals are not born, they are educated. With professional aviation's increasingly complex and high-technology environment, being an aviation professional, today and in the future, requires more than just knowing how to fly. Few of the major airlines require a college degree for employment, but in the past several years, more than 95 percent of the pilots hired have at least a four-year college degree. If you want an airline job, you stand a better chance if you are among the 95 percent with a degree than the 5 percent without one. Aviation is an exciting career field, and because you can earn an above-average income, competition for jobs is keen. Traditionally, military pilots often place first in the employment contest...

The fact that it is the fastest mode of transportation easily accessible to all common people has made it even more effective in changing the way me transport from one place to another. The international air travel has increased from a few elite people in the 20th century when civil aviation started to over 1.2 billion (U.S Travel association) in the recent years. The increase in the size and the efficiency of the aircrafts have paved road for an efficient long distance air travel. Due to the, rise in the low-cost carrier business model, there has been a drastic increase in domestic air travel as well. The reduction in the prices of air fare and the increase in safety and accessibility of air transport have changed the mind-set of recent travellers. Aircrafts are not only being used to carry people but also cargo. Transporting perishable cargo over long distances has become the major roles of cargo airliners generating them great revenue. This increased the air freight by a factor of fourteen. (IATA Vision 2050). The increase in the revenue generation led to a new business model in the aviation industry. The major...

...INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (EXECUTIVE BACHELORS IN MANAGEMENT) Question 1 Geographical and Logistical Advantage Myanmar represents the second largest landmass in Southeast Asia and has the 40th largest population in the world. It neighbors five countries, India and Bangladesh in the Northwest, China and Laos in the Northeast and Thailand in the South. Its geographical location makes it the ASEAN link to China and India - the two largest, most dynamic and most rapidly developing emerging markets in the world. This combined with the ASEAN block, which contains over 600 million people, means Myanmar will have a bordering market of almost 3 billion people. Because of this, Myanmar is likely to compete with Vietnam as a preferred alternative to China and India-based manufacturing producers. At the moment, China offers the best and most efficient supply chain alternative for traders and manufacturers who rely heavily on mass-market, fast, and efficient subcontracting facilities – though not the cheapest. The price of efficiency and reliability is high and industries whose labor costs are a significant component of the overall product cost have to look elsewhere, such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and India – which have all been viable options for some years now. After infrastructure development takes place, Myanmar will also be a solid option for those in need of inexpensive manufacturing services. Furthermore, with its borders now open, it will serve as a more...
