...As Obama Gets Older… As Obama Gets Older… Disengagement theory– This involves when an older person withdraws themselves from involvement in social interaction. The disengagement theory states that as you get older you naturally withdraw from others. Sometimes it can happen because as you get older you have less opportuinities to do things such as go out and socialise. Also another reason people disengage is because they cannot physically go out and do things due to their health. People tend to not only engage less with friends and distant relatives and more with closer relatives. Older people start to become more individualised and less bothered by the expectations of others and how they think or feel about them. In 1961 Cumming and Henry, two theorists that brought forward this theory both argued that it was and important process for older people to go through and that it was a natural part of ageing. They believed that as people grow older they start to withdraw due to the less opportuinities that they can take part in. In 1974 Bromley accepted this theory and believed that even if someone tries to fight the process of disengagement it is bound to happen at some point whether it is earlier or later on in their lives. He also said that people disengage because they do not have the physical and mental resources they had when they were younger. He believed that disengagement could happen...

...Master Lb. Engleza, anul II, Student: THE STYLE OF NEWSPAPERS The newspapers’ style was the last that was recognized as a form of written literary English, dating from the 17th century (in the form of pamphlets) and until 19th century developed continuously into a distinct system of language with specific linguistic characteristics and functions. The materials that can be considered as belonging to newspapers’ style have to perform the following functions: to inform the reader, to persuade, to form people’s attitudes, etc. News style encompasses not only vocabulary and sentence structure, but also the way in which stories present the information in terms of relative importance, tone, and intended audience. Journalistic prose is explicit and precise, and tries not to rely on jargon. As a rule, journalists will not use a long word when a short one will do. They use subject-verb-object construction and vivid, active prose. They offer anecdotes, examples and metaphors, and they rarely depend on colorless generalizations or abstract ideas. News writers try to avoid using the same word more than once in a paragraph (sometimes called an "echo" or "word mirror"). They state only facts without giving comments. The vocabulary used is neutral and common literary. Specific features are: a) special political and economic terms, or terms specific to other fields of activity; b) non-term political vocabulary; c) newspaper clichés; d) abbreviations; e) neologisms. In the following lines...

Using the critical thinking skills you have gained so far and referring to the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams likely used to develop and improve their thinking as those historical events unfolded prior to taking a stand and acting according to their beliefs. Samuel Adams may have used strategy one: analyzing a single statement for what is means by asking yourself if the statement makes sense and if so responding with a yes or no answer. Adams was not only an extremist but a political writer speaking to issues that directly affected colonies like the Stamp Act and tea distribution from East India. Both of these events affected many colonists in a negative way because the Stamp Act added taxation to certain products, while India tea imports, caused some colonists to lose money from their own tea sells. Adams would have had to ask himself why these acts where just or unjust by analyzing them individually in a literal sense. He publicly came to the conclusion that these acts were unjust because they both caused colonists to lose money and also put a damper on their personal values and liberty...
