...When starting our stock track portfolio we set a benchmark to trade within the S&P 500 and to pay attention to different technology companies due to different phones and portable devices being released in recent news. So far we have only only purchased different equities based on recent information and keeping an eye on the market that in the past two months. We especially watched the market in early October when the market was very unpredictable. Our long term strategy thus far has made us ride out the stocks until it is necessary for Our first transaction was purchased on September 11th for 50 shares of Cisco Systems (CSCO) for $25.12 and it is currently selling at $23.26. Even though we are currently as a loss with this stock due to recent information they are down because of a recent joint venture that they are currently getting rid of 25% of their ownership so we are going to hold to see where this moves. Our next transaction was on September 18th of 30 shares for The Walt Disney Company (DIS) for 90.31 it is currently selling at $87.10, we are convinced the DIS is a solid that even though goes up and down it is a stable stock. The next stock we bought was Go-Pro (GPRO) on September 30th, in recent new Go-Pro has been under scrutiny due to a skier who was with his children in Switzerland and is claiming that due to the Go-Pro attachment to the helmet it hindered the use of the helmet when he fell which lead to his death. We bought 28 shares GPRO for $90.60 and it is currently...

...Stock Trak Investment Report [Portfolio Investment Analysis] Portfolio management is an important factor that determines the performance of the portfolio. To perform well in the portfolio, it is not only essential to develop personal investment strategies, but analyzing current financial trend is also vital. Stock Trak is an online portfolio simulation that allows students to try out different investment strategies, and also get a hand on experience in what the real market trading conditions are. By managing the portfolio, I have acquired some new knowledge of investment strategies and also become more familiar with the current market by following closely to the financial headlines. My portfolio composed of only a few specific stocks of some large information technology companies. The main compositions are Apple Inc., Google Inc., and International Business Machines Corp (IBM). By investing different stocks in the same industry, it comes to my attention that even though they are in the similar category, the life cycles of these stocks are still very different. It is interesting to compare and analyze the different progress of those companies, and also to see how different factors affecting the performance of a specific stock and the portfolio as a whole. [Portfolio Performance Analysis] My overall return is 7.92%, which is about average and is a little over performed comparing to the S&P 500 average of 7.71% during the same period of time. Analyzing the historical data...

...------------------------------------------------- Portfolio Composition The Money Team designed this portfolio September 27th, 2013 with the plan to invest mainly in large cap and high growth U.S equities. All equities were purchased on that date with the intention to hold them until December 6th, 2013. The primary goal of this portfolio was to maximize growth and value of the portfolio through an active investment strategy. This portfolio was concentrated in large cap U.S equities and domestic mutual funds. There was a blend of small cap growth stocks, which were selected based on potential for large growth. This decision was in line with our primary goal of maximizing growth. The portfolio is highly focused in the technology sector in order to capitalize on advance in the short-term. The portfolio is tailored to an investor with high-risk tolerance. The Money Team held on to its U.S equities throughout the course of the time horizon. The only changes The Money Team made to its portfolio during the time horizon was selling underperforming bonds. Below is the holding period return data for each of The Money Team’s assets: Company Name | QTY | Currency | Price Paid | Last Price | Profit/Loss (local curr) | P/L % | 3-D Systems Corp (Delaware) | 100 | USD | $55.96 | $75.38 | $1,942.00 | 34.70 | Rite Aid Corp | 1000 | USD | $4.59 | $5.75 | $1,160.00 | 25.27 | Virtus Investment Partners Inc | 100 | USD | $168.00 | $202.04 | $3,404.00 | 20.26 | Nokia...

...Stock Trak-Report Investment Analysis I Executive Summary This report will describe examine the various strategies that were undertaken to successfully complete the Stocktrak simulation. Firstly, an analysis of the US and Chinese markets will be given as they are crucial markets that play a big role in the worldwide economy. Due to the fact that the US economy has been going through a recession, a working knowledge of this economic was crucial to our success. Our initial strategy revolved around timing trades based on daily market performance and expectations using daily market news and reports. While this strategy was successful to an extent, our group soon focused on diversifying our portfolio, not just through the quantity of equity held, but also by using correlations between firms. Our group began investing in many technology firms as well as some communications firms and futures. An industry analysis of these industries will be given as most of our stocks were held in these areas. Since there are technological advances almost daily, we felt the technology industry could be very promising. The automotive industry was also important due to Toyota’s recall and we quickly learned just how volatile the futures market could be. Portfolio statistics will also be given and a comparison of the NASDAQ Composite Index and our portfolio will be given. In the end, our final strategy consisted of diversifying our portfolio, using daily market news and expectations and by paying...

...INVESTMENT STRATEGY AND SELECTION: The strategy employed for Stock-Trak was to diversify our portfolio among the sectors and various stocks. The goal was to earn at minimum 3% on the principal, and this was to be obtained by doing technical analysis and looking for stocks that showed future potential for a price increase, or a price decrease in the case of a short sell. We also looked for news from the companies that would positively or negatively impact them. We were more inclined towards trading stocks, and did not invest in other securities such as bonds and mutual funds, since stocks had the potential to offer a higher yield. In order to pick a stock, we looked at financial websites such as Google Finance and Yahoo Finance. We looked at the stocks that were most active in dollar volume for the particular sector, and within these stocks, the plan was to pick stocks that were not too volatile, and having an upward trend. This turned out to be a mistake on our part since we picked some stocks that were too highly priced hoping it would further increase, but instead decreased shortly after we bought it. Also, some of the stocks that we picked turned out to be volatile and dropped considerably thereafter despite our approach to stay away fi-om highly volatile stocks. We also picked stocks from different sectors, and these included technology, energy, basic materials, financials, services, and transportation. ,---- INVESTMENT SUCCESSES: Nokia is an example of a good investment...

...David Rossi & Dhiraj Thakker Investments – Professor Flaherty Stock- Trak Portfolio Report The stock trak game was a great opportunity to gain first-hand experience with making trades in the stock market. The experience we gained through the game gave us the ability to manage large sums of money, giving us the opportunity to recognize the importance of preparing and utilizing portfolios in the career development process, to be aware of the component parts that make your portfolio effective, and to understand how to compile and present your portfolio in a professional manner. The initial round of investments to our portfolio was comprised of seven domestic stocks. The main goal was to acquire stable, well-known companies that would pose low risk. These stocks were selected with minimal analysis due to their market capitalizations and the associated company’s reputations. We selected several Blue chip stocks, because they appeared to match our goals of stability and minimizing risk. Since these companies are very large, well established corporations, we understood that the possibility of significant growth in equity is unlikely due to the established maturity of the companies. For this reason, we did not expect to earn our largest return in this area of our portfolio, but instead we were hoping for small growth, while collecting dividends. The first stock purchased was Microsoft (MSFT). Microsoft is a large cap computer software company...

Investment Strategy and Selection The strategy I employed for our Stock-Trak simulation was to diversify our portfolio among different sectors, various stocks with relatively low risk, and stocks which were positively/negatively correlated with other securities in our portfolio. My goal was to make a gain of 10% return on our overall. The policies put in place to achieve my 10% goal are as follow: a) Trading with the exchange trend: Mathematical analysis has shown that equity price changes are mostly random with a small trend component, this is an important pillar of knowledge as this is the only strategy which will give positive results in the long run (usually seen within 4 weeks) b) Cut losses: When faced with a stock that has been underperforming beyond reasonable doubt and expectations it must be cut off in order to protect the return on my portfolio. c) Long Positions are kept until they stop performing well: I’ll hold onto our long or short positions as long as they...

...On January 25, 2016, the Stock-Trak simulation program began and my goal of this simulation program was trying to increase the value of the portfolio with minimizing the risk before April 15, 2016, which is the last trading day. Throughout the duration of the assignment, as investing strategies were discussed in class, I began to take more of an academic approach in regard to my investment strategy. I began to not only rely on news articles but I also analyzed company financials, giving me a better picture of the company as a whole. I decided to buy stock in safe, well-established companies that I new would give me a steady profit. That strategy worked pretty well for me, I made a profit with Alibaba, Starbucks and Wal-Mart. I made the biggest profit with Alibaba “ $18,139 and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc “ $20,161, while I made only minimal profit with the others. However, I failed to make a profit with Direxion Daily Russia Bear 3X ETF and Momo Inc, losing a total over $20,000 with each. I decided to take a chance and buy some stock in companies that I was not familiar with and achieved slight success doing so. I used various articles available on Stock Trak such as, Stocks to Watch, The Market Story, and Market Update, as my guide to buying stocks in unfamiliar companies, I received my biggest profit with VS 3X WTI CRUDE at $12,870 and Direxion Daily FTSE China Bear 3X ETF at $12,280. Both of these two stock are 3 X ETF, which seeking a return that is +300%...

...home owner and I figured the best thing to do with about 25% of the inheritance would be to purchase a home and have something in my name with little to no mortgage payments would be in my best interest. The remainder of the money would open to be invested. Investment Goals: Possibly the biggest investment goal that I have would be to secure a financially stable retirement. All of the transactions are in an attempt to grow the portfolio more and more before that time. Ideally, the account would reach a point to where I would have the option to go with safe, fixed income investments through retirement and be comfortable. Depending on the success of the portfolio it wouldn't be out of the question to retire before the age of 65. Growth stocks early on before moving to more conservative type securities. Another goal is to provide a college fund for my future children to pay for most, if not all, of their higher education expenses. Educational expenses rise at an alarming rate. Finding some investments that are able to keep up with or beat the college inflation rate was one of the strategies to meet this goal. Other than those main goals the other goal I have is probably shared with just about every other investor. Simply put, my goal is to make money. This goal doesn't...
