As a new student into the college experience I have many concerns and goals for myself as a student. I am committed to success here at school as well as at home. I’m walking into a field I know absolutely nothing about. My most computer experience I have is Netflix. The field I’ve chosen to study is Electrical Engineering. I believe that my lack of knowledge is a good thing because my brain is a blank slate, but at the same time it’s a hindrance when surrounded by people who know what they are doing. At times I feel lost because of my lack of general knowledge of my chosen field. The last time I was in a classroom I was 16 years old and I was extremely bored. I dropped out of high school and received my GED within two weeks. At home I struggle with raising my 10 year old daughter, working evenings, and paying any spare cash to my mom, along with several health issues. My daughter’s father died when she was 2 years old and life has been rough and difficult since then. I normally work 2-3 jobs at a time, but with having a stroke earlier this year I had to cut back. My daughter was excited to find out I was starting college, until she discovered I’m hardly at home to put her to bed anymore. That is the one time she gets me all to herself and it rarely happens anymore. Last week we were at the grocery store and she was complaining that I had class that night. She asked me if she could have some Goldfish crackers, I told her no because they are to expensive. She thought about that for a few minutes and then preceded to ask if that after I get my degree if we could start buying Goldfish. I told her yes because that is the difference a degree makes in our
