Community Teaching Work Plan Proposal
Directions: Develop an educational series proposal for your community using one of the following four topics which will be chosen within your CLC group: 1) Bioterrorism/Disaster 2) Environmental Issues 3) Primary Prevention/Health Promotion 4) Secondary Prevention/Screenings for a Vulnerable Population
Planning Before Teaching: Name and Credentials of Teacher: Christine Gallagher, RN, Charity Poku, RN, DustyBarnett, RN , and Lynn Myers, RN | Estimated Time Teaching Will Last:1.5 hours | Location of Teaching:Community Fitness Center | Supplies, Material, Equipment Needed:PowerPoint equipment, handouts, pamphlets, fitness facility. All participants must bring proof of medical clearance to participate in physical activity. | Estimated Cost:$500.00. Monies raised by donations and volunteers. | Community and Target Aggregate:The underserved and low-income aggregate of Houston, Texas. | Topic:The Importance of Aerobic Physical Activity and Good Nutrition for a Healthy Lifestyle. |

Epidemiological Rationale for Topic (statistics related to topic):
Houston, Texas is a community characterized by unhealthy options of its residents when it comes to physical activity and nutrition. Houston ranks high nationally in both obesity and inactivity. Persons in low income and targeted areas are key contributors to poor exercise habits, poor diet and lack of accessible fruit and vegetables.
Nursing Diagnosis:
High risk for more than the body requirements related to lack of nutritional knowledge and sedentary lifestyles as evidenced by high rates of obesity and little access to physical activities and health related lifestyles.
Readiness for Learning:
Identify the factors that would indicate the readiness to learn for the target aggregate. Include emotional and experiential readiness to learn.
There is a real need based on the deficiency of community education that actually exists. Community members are emotionally ready when they join with others in the community for internal motivation. When the community members is educated on the information, uses it, and follows through with success, shows experimental readiness.
Learning Theory to Be Utilized: * Explain how the theory will be applied. * Lecture * Demonstration of aerobic physical activity * Power Point slides * Provide handouts about health risks associated with sedentary lifestyle * Give pamphlets with resources information

Goal: * Healthy People 2020 has two goals primarily used in this teaching: to increase the proportion of adults who engage in aerobic physical activity of at least moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes/week, or 75 minutes/week of vigorous intensity, or an equivalent combination (PA-2.1) and the second goal to increase the proportion of adults who engage in aerobic physical activity of at least moderate intensity for more than 300 minutes/week, or more than 150 minutes/week of vigorous intensity, or an equivalent combination (PA-2.2) (USHHS, 2013).
How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata’s Health for All Global Initiatives (See page 116 in the textbook)? * I think that the main difference between the Health for All Global Initiatives and Healthy People 2020 is the lack of commitment and follow-through. “Even though the global strategy of Health for All was endorsed by 143 countries at Alma-Ata in 1978, it remains a statement of aspiration, not a reality” (Novelli, 2005). Today’s Healthy People objectives are more than an aspiration, with community and state interventions to assist in its success with community resources and a website with helpful information (Maurer & Smith, 2013). * Furthermore, the “conference strongly reaffirms that health, which is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity, is a fundamental human right and that the attainment of the highest possible level of health is a most important world-wide social goal whose realization requires the action of many other social and economic sectors in addition to the health sector. The existing gross inequality in the health status of the people particularly between developed and developing countries as well as within countries is politically, socially and economically unacceptable and is, therefore, of common concern to all countries” (WHO, 1978).
Develop Behavioral Objectives (Including Domains), Content, and Strategies/Methods: Behavioral Objective and Domain | Content | Strategies/Methods | 1. Adult citizen will define aerobic physical activity. (cognitive) * | * Aerobic physical activity is any activity that gets your lungs breathing harder and your heart beating faster for at least ten minutes. We need 150 minutes/week of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes/week of vigorous-intensity physical activity.(www.cdc.gov) | * Presentation of the first half of a short power point presentation to provide informative yet concise information on aerobic physical activity, to include the definition of aerobic physical activity and parameters for moderate- and vigorous intensity. * Engage the group to share their experiences with physical activity. | * 2.Adult citizen will identify three aerobic activities. (psychomotor) | Moderate-Intensity aerobic activities are: * Walking fast * Doing water aerobics * Riding a bike on level ground or with few hills * Playing doubles tennis * Pushing a lawn mower Vigorous Intensity aerobic activities are: * Jogging or running * Swimming laps * Riding a bike fast or on hills * Playing singles tennis * Playing basketball (http://www.cdc.gov) | * Have class divide in two groups, with one leader of each group facing the class. Have the first group walk in place at a fast pace while saying their ABCs at a normal talking pace. The instructor will guide the pace for walking and citing the ABCs. Following this demonstration, ask participants to describe how they felt with regard to heart being, breathing, etc. Next, have the second group jog in place while saying their ABCs at a normal talking pace. The instructor will guide the pace of the jogging and citing the ABCS. Following this, have participants discuss how they felt in regards to heart rate, breathing, sweating, etc. This activity is to illustrate the physical results from moderate-intensity versus vigorous-intensity aerobics. | * 3.Adult citizen will identify more than 1 health risk associated with sedentary lifestyle that physical activity will reduce. (cognitive) | Risk factors associated with sedentary lifestyle include: * High blood pressure * Cardiovascular disease * Anxiety and depression * Increased risk of certain cancers.(http://www.cdc.gov) | Present the second half of the power point presentation with informative information on health risks associated with sedentary lifestyle and community resources. Allow for questions and answers. Encourage participants to share additional ideas for increasing physical activity, as well as resources they may be aware of for programs in the community. Encourage interested participants to form a walking, jogging, biking, etc., group to encourage continued activity participation. | * 4.Adult citizen will identify three physical activities that they will do, a community resource, and a plan to assist them stay on track. * (affective | Community resources for physical activity include: * Houston Parks and Recreation Centers * YMCA * Bike and jogging trailsInterventions for staying on track include: * Start slow and replace moderate-intensity activity with vigorous-intensity activity as tolerated. * Find an exercise partner and hold each other accountable. * Schedule your physical activity like you would any other appointment. * Set goals and reward yourself for achieving each goal. | Provide and encourage completion of a “Physical Activity Contract” to participate in 150 minutes/week of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes/week of vigorous-intensity activities. Provide a convenient booklet for each individual to track minutes of activity and locate additional community resources.Plan a 30-day follow up class to celebrate achievements and address any problems individuals may have getting started or staying on track.Encourage each group member to bring someone from the community with them to the 30-day follow up to enroll in the community-wide get active program. |

Creativity: How was creativity applied in the teaching methods/strategies? * Adult learners were included in the learning process through questions and comments. * Information was goal-oriented. * Information provided promotes opportunities for self-direction and autonomy. * Opportunities provided for reward and recognition.

Planned Evaluation of Objectives (Outcome Evaluation): Describe what you will measure for each objective and how.
Adult citizen will define aerobic physical activity. This objective will be measured through a short course evaluation at the end of the class, with at least 90% of participants accurately defining aerobic physical activity.

Adult citizen will identify three aerobic activities. This objective will be measured through a short course evaluation at the end of the class, with at least 90% of participants accurately identifying at least three aerobic activities. *
Adult citizen will identify more than one health risk associated with sedentary lifestyle that physical activity will reduce. This objective will be measured through a short course evaluation at the end of the class, with at least 90% of participants accurately identifying at least one health risk associated with sedentary lifestyle. *
Adult citizen will identify three physical activities that they will do, a community resource, and a plan to assist them stay on track. This objective will be measured initially by 100% of participants completing a “Physical Activity Contract.” Additionally, this objective will be further measured through a 30-day follow-up class with at least 40% of participants returning and at least 25% having met and maintained their physical activity contract goals to date.

* Planned Evaluation of Goal: * Describe how and when you could evaluate the overall effectiveness of your teaching plan. I will evaluate the efficiency of the program information from my supervisor or manager and also from the audience or the targeted group who participated. The evaluation will be done by the end of the program. Evaluation can also be done during the course of the program so that any changes can be done or corrected. * * Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher (Process Evaluation):” Process Evaluation focuses on how well the health related program is linked” (Maurer & Smith, 2013) to the community. The community or the targeted population will provide a feedback on what they have learned and that they have to show dedication and accountability. The targeted group should follow instructions as to how many times/week and for how long to practice the skill provided to them. * The community will evaluate the efficiency of the lessons provided as well as the evaluation from my supervisor. The lesson provided should be effective and updated information to keep up with the current tend and techniques. * * * * * Barriers: * What are potential barriers that may arise during teaching and how will those be handled? * Education level: level of understanding: I will teach in simple and efficient means and not to use any medical terminology so they can understand. * Language barrier: Translator will be providing to assist in the interpretation. * Too many participants or too few: Effort will be made to locate the participant to a larger room * Environment; Appropriate room temperature will be provide and since it involves physical activities, open area will be provided when necessary. * Participant not very interested and don’t see it as a risk: I will encourage and clear misconceptions. * Health status: Effort will be made to have medical team available to evaluate and check any health risk in relation to perform any physical/aerobic activities of the participants. * * Communication: * How will you begin your presentation? I will introduce myself and my team to the community and why we in the community at that particular time. I will introduce the topic and its benefits of physical activity. * * How will you end your presentation? I will encourage them to ask question and also ask them what they know about the topic. I will tell the group the risk of physical inactivity and encourage them to participate. I will let them know how it has helped a different community when they adhered to the instruction and participated fully. * * What nonverbal communication techniques will you employ? Posters, pamphlets, body language, eye contact, role play will be some of the nonverbal communication techniques I will use.

Why High School Should Start Later

...High school students should not begin their school later and end their school day later. Stuents have sports and work to attend. Also stuff at home to do. Stdents need time for themselvese. Making the day longer will do no good at all. Sudents have after school sports that they enjoy to do. If school were to end later then the students would have to go to their sport later and then the would get home even later then what they already do. Okay, say their was a football game and the game was a hour and a half away, the students would get out from school even later so that means they go to their game later and by the time they get home they would not have time to do anything because they would need to go to sleep. Once a student gets home...
