...For my Genius Hour project my topic is about school. Since the beginning of their life people asked the question that made everyone think. That is “why we have to go to school” which everyone thought once in their lives. I changed that into “who created school” because that is basically the same thing. This has been on my mind the past few weeks since school have started again and more work than ever. It have always wondered how the world would be like if we did not have to go to school. They teach you so many things you might not use like how to type an essay in MLA format. As a chemist, do I need to write an essay about my findings. All I need to do is write notes on my experiments. If you do have to do a speech about your finding, make it up as you go. If you were smart you can make up an essay in a few minutes. I can rant on for hours talking about all the ways I don’t use all the stuff we do in school but now we would continue to my findings....

...1. Hi! First year in Science Olympiad... Any event you found really fun? I really want to get off to a good start :) cecaayyy Hi!!! Haha welcome to science olympiad! Hmmm well if it’s your first year I would definitely try different things even if they’re out of your comfort zone. A mistake a lot of my friends make their first year of scioly is picking events that are related to the classes they’ve taken in school. This might seem like a good idea, but it really doesn’t give you as much of an advantage as you would expect because the scioly tests are college level material and beyond. To be honest, every event is challenging so you’re best off picking an event you’re genuinely interested in. If I could go back to my first year of high school scioly knowing what I know now I’d pick disease detectives and thermodynamics. I did disease detectives this year and in middle school and LOVED IT. You need to study specified diseases and how they spread and other miscellaneous stuff. If you like puzzles and making inferences then you should definitely try it out. It’s interesting since it’s more problem solving/mystery than memorizing facts plus if you’re actually interested in the material the test is super easy. The test gives you some scenarios of a disease outbreak and you need to answer questions based on making inferences from the background they give you and miscellaneous stuff about terminology. Thermodynamics is a building event with a test. It might help to have a little...

...Boredom Comment on the poem: I think the poem is great. I was entertained, when I read it. Jack mentions some pretty wild stuff like the volcano that just erupted, less than half a mile away and there's a dragon blowing smoke rings that normally won't happen in the daily round but he's still bored. It's very flippant and ironic written. But that's the point, and I like it. Altogether the poem gives a touch of a funny poem, written by an author who understands irony and humor. My own experience: I'm bores sometimes. Of course I am everyone is. Some people are just more bored than others, but everyone feel bored sometimes. I'm am bored and yawns when I'm doing something I don't find interesting. Like waiting for the bus or in queues. But who does find that interesting? Everything in life can't be an adventure. But if it were, we wouldn't appreciate it. There has to be some boring stuff, before we can feel the fun stuffs. We need something to compare with. When I'm bored, I begin to feel very tired and want to sleep, so I kind of try to do something that entertains me. When I'm at home, I quiet often feel bored, if I'm alone, but then I'll just watch a movie or read a book. You just have to find something that kills the time. I also think that you'll easier get bored, if you have a bad patience. You'll quicker get irritated and annoyed, when you have nothing to do. We're all different, and will react different. Some people can sit in hours without feeling bored. I'm kind of...

...holiday. The most important holidays we celebrate are thanksgiving and Christmas, my family and I do so many activities together and it is so much fun and exciting, this is where we do the most stuff and spend the most time together as a family. On thanksgiving my mom will start to cook the food a few days before thanksgiving has even started she makes stuff like turkey, ham, gravy, stuffing and a whole lot more. The food she makes is so delicious she makes enough food to feed an army literally, she invites a bunch of people to our home and it is a truly wonderful experience, and something that we do it all sit at the table and go around and say what we are thankful for, this is very important to my mom and she really enjoys doing it. Around the Christmas holiday we do a lot of different activities with my siblings and I. One thing that we do is buy gingerbread house making kits and we will have a contest to see who can build the best house and who’s is most decorative. Another thing we do is make our own stockings, my mom goes out and buys plain stockings and buys a bunch decorative stuff and we make our own stocking the way we want. Another thing we do is on Christmas eve is open our presents from other family members and we get to pick one present under the tree from our parents to open early. These are very fun traditions and I enjoy them greatly these are customs and traditions I would like to pass down to my children and share it with other people to enjoy with their own...

...well. I got through it so that’s good i’m not all washed up on the side of a river. I’m more like kind of over to the side of the river right next to the bank not quite there but almost. :). This year was pretty fun and it wasn’t too hard so I think that i’m going to not fail next year and it’ll be really interesting because i’ll be a mentor next year so that will be a fun experience. But at the same time I can’t wait for summer. I love my friends but good lord sometimes they can be really ridiculous. So Al Capone was a fun one. I think it was my best one because not only was it my guided project but it was the one I had the most fun on and I had more interest in more than any of the other ones so that was a big one. I think that the notecards was a bit more organized that my notebook ones where. But that’s okay because what’s done is done. This totally off point but I think that another big part was that my logs for Al Capone was the prettiest. The reason I say this is because. I enjoyed logging for that one. Then there was 7 wonders that one was a bit more challengeing then the guided but that’s how it’s supposed to be I think. That one wasn’t as fun as Al Capone was but I got a good live source...

...Today, I just want to talk with you a little more about The Monthly Cash Flow Plan. This goes along with basically setting up your, and figuring out your zero based budget. Basically, you use The Monthly Cash Flow Plan as a great resource for you to help you figure out and think of all the different things that you really wouldn’t think of. So I just start to go through these, just fill in the steps. It is very easy to just go through this. Some of this stuff is kind of, it maybe too… I don’t know you dig a little bit too into it. You know, I kind of like to, let’s see. What is this word I’m kind of looking for? I encompass everything into one, more or less-- I do not break it down quite this much. I mean, you can, if you can. The more you can break it down, the better off you are, but, to break it down into, like even for example, I’ll start giving you examples as we go through, like transportation. It says gas and oil. Yes! It is easy for you to break down what you should be spending in gas, but, how do you break down like, tires? I mean, it is just a whole different thing you can do, so for me, I would just put it in a budget as far as gas, oil changes, tires-- all that stuff into one thing. And then there is this one here has license and taxes, **car’s** (unsure) replacement—these kind of things, so if you would just kind of split it that way to make it one big expense instead of like breaking it down individually-- but it is just me. I kind of like I said, I kind...

...tough. It's the where you have to deal and cope with the most changes, in your whole life. This transition from childhood to adulthood is smooth for some, but rough for others. The most important thing about being a teenager is responsibility. When you're a teenager, you get blamed for anything wrong you do, get grounded, punished, unlike before when you were a child, and you could get away with murder, and nobody could do anything about it! You can say goodbye to those days now! It's all not so bad about being a teenager though. Now you don't have to have your parents take you to somewhere you want to go, and somewhere you couldn't go before. You can go with friends and have fun, which you couldn't because all of you were too little to know what fun is! You can now go to amusement parks, parties etc. with friends, or even alone. It's a very enjoyable time of life, if you do the right stuff, and put thought into what you are doing. But with all good things, must come the bad. During this age, you are old and hopefully smart enough to understand what is good for you, and make decisions without consulting others. But with that comes risk, and nowadays, fun stuff are usually bad stuff. With the society turning for the bad as days pass, the teens are getting into all sorts of trouble with drugs and alcohol. Thirty years ago, drugs were something that older people never talked about and nor did they ever see. Alcohol was small thing that the good people such as churchgoers never touched...

...Internet Censorship Do you like to use the internet? There are many ways you can use the internet, you can use it for texting, watching movies on Netflix. When you look something you can find millions of choices to choose from. You can also play very realistic games on your phone when you think of movies you should go on Netflix because there are lots of movies to pick from. Texting a friend is fun because you can talk to them whenever you like. But there is a downside for these three but there are good things. Some things that are on the internet teach children about science, animals, grammar, and math. But sometimes there are websites that are meant to be restricted, because there are a lot of inappropriate things on the internet. When kids look up science there are many things you can find many scientific websites. But the bad thing about them looking up a science experiment that could be potentially dangerous, a child would want to do the same experiment. When a child looks up something to help them with a paragraph they might find a good website to use as a references but they can also find a lot of curse words on a web site. There are many extraordinary things that you can find on the Internet but beware of inappropriate stuff....

... Before I get write about the music I grew up with I wanted to say that this is the best assignment so far. I love music not only listening to it but writing it and singing it as well. Here goes, when I was growing up I listened to a lot of music from the 50’s and 60’s my parents grew up during this time and loved this type of music I enjoyed this type of music and still do. I heard songs from Leslie Gore, Elvis, Dion and the Belmont’s Ray Patterson just to name a few. Sometimes I would cry and sometimes I would be happy depending on what song I was listening to let me explain. When I heard the song Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows from Leslie Gore I would be happy I thought that if we had sunshine rainbows and lollipops (I love lollipops) then the world would be peaceful and everyone would want to live in it. the song that I always made me cry was tell Laura I love her by Ray Patterson the reason I cried was it was sad it’s a song about how a guy is in love with a girl and all he wants to do is marry her so he decides that the only way to get her a ring is to enter a stock car race well he dies while he is racing and Laura is left alone without the man she loves. I think that if I had to reflect on how these songs helped me through childhood I would have to say that they helped me to understand that life is not about sunshine rainbows and lollipops but about love and death. ...I thought that I would talk to you guys about the one thing that I know really well, and that is my job. My neighbors daughter Caitlin was born with a cyst on her brain which has put her developmentally behind as far as school goes. I started working with Caitlin when I was in the fifth or sixth grade by babysitting her and I continued to do so all the way through the end of High School. When I started College Caitlin's Mom called me up during the summer and asked me if I was interested in having a real job where I get an actual paycheck versus just the regular cash that I got from babysitting; and of course I said yes. This was back when Caitlin was a Freshman in High School; she is now going to be a Senior in the Fall of this year. The job that Caitlin's Mom hired me to do was to work SHL (Supported Home Living) and Respite hours. The difference between the two is that SHL hours require me to actually teach Caitlin by working with her on for example learning to count money and make change. The other part of SHL hours requires me to work with Caitlin to teach her life skills like cooking, cleaning, and taking care of herself. Respite hours just require me to hang out with Caitlin and do things like play Wii, go swimming as well as going to things like her Special Olympics events. As much as I love my job there are times that it frustrates me like when Caitlin is supposed to be doing her homework but all she wants to do is watch TV. It's hard to be angry at her though because...

...I am more of a Soc than a Greaser. I have a lot more than what a Greaser would have. Socs normally have more money and better quality items than what a Greaser would. Socs are the popular kids that have nice cars and they get whatever they want. Socs make fun of poor kids such as Greasers. Socs pick up anything on the street and beat Greasers just for being one. Socs are mainly high class or high middle class. Socs don’t care how old they are. They just beat you up. Socs live on the high end of town. Greasers Greasers are mostly the poor kids or some middle class. Greasers typically have a switch blade anywhere they go. Greasers don’t have items of the best quality or have the nicest houses. Greasers normally work in town at a young age....

...Have you ever been horseback riding before? There is someone in my town that lets me ride horses and sometimes we do chores for him. I’m going to tell you how to ride a horse and how to get ready to ride one. I will show you how riding horse is fun and relaxing. First before you ride a horse you get yourself ready. When you ride a horse you should always wear jeans and a T shirt. When you get ready it might help if you braid your hair or put it in a ponytail so your hair is out of your way. When you ride a horse don’t wear flip flops wear shoes or boots. Always look on the news the day before to see what the weather will be like and make sure it a nice day. If it’s going to be cold wear a sweatshirt and if it’s hot don’t. That how...

...The boy I am giving this speech on is not simply a friend. He's not even just a boy- he is a boy amongst men. He is a ninja amongst regular people. He is a ginger amongst...everyone else. He is... the ginga ninja. Caleb has impacted me by leading the front ensemble through work, fun, and breaking stuff. Caleb knew how to make lazy kids such as myself actually work. When I came to MOC as a freshman, I was a terrible percussionist. I couldn’t play timpani, piano, or mallet instruments, so I was placed on auxiliary, which basically meant I just played the cymbals. The front ensemble as a whole was awful, and we knew it. The pit was kind of a joke section to the rest of the band. We messed around a lot and didn’t get much done. The next year, Caleb took over as section leader. He helped push everyone in the pit to become better, which helped inspire me to work harder and learn to play mallet instruments. The all-male pit, nicknamed the FEGS, or Front Ensemble Guys, by Mr. Mangold, soared above and beyond what we thought we could achieve, mostly thanks to Caleb’s leadership....

...I think its messed up how they have to live because people all around the world that are famous just throw money away like its nothing and spend it on stupid stuff when they could be giving it to people that really need it. Seeing that little kid out there looking for stuff is sad to see because I think it’s not right for a little kid to be living in those type of conditions. The houses are pretty much made out of recycled stuff that we never used and threw it out. These houses can also be stacked on top of each other which is really dangerous cause anytime that little piece of medal or whatever its made out of can break and all that stuff would fall people on the top would fall and hit the get injured or may even die. It is also for the people on the bottom all that garbage would land on top of them and kill them instantly if not die they would get really injured. I also see a lot of African American’s who live like this there is about 65% African American’s who live in these dangerous conditions....
