Summary Of Hayne Gordon's Leadership Revolution

In chapters eleven and twelve of his book titled Leadership Revolution co-author with Hayne Gordon, John Perkins expand on what he meant by a leadership that engages the world. He started off giving us a little history of what happened to the Chicago Transportation El train in the 1990s. In summary, the Chicago transportation Authorities decided to not run the El train after midnight. This decision is affecting those whose shifts end at midnight and do not have a transportation on their own. Perkins and Gordon used this example to introduce the role of the church. In other words, the cut of the services is and should be an opportunity for the church to live out its purpose. They reiterate that the church’s role is not limited to bringing others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They also mentioned that Christianity is not a reclusive religion as some people may assume. All of these were stated to point out that as Christians, part of the calling is “to provide a moral and prophetic voice for the community and for the nation...and protect the weak and the vulnerable” (143). In addition, John and Gordon also clarifies that the calling is not limited, it can go from community all the way to a government level. He gave a couple of example of his own involvement with President Clinton and ways in which he serves as a Christian and as a citizen to better the community he lives in. His encouraging all to do the same thing too if we are able to. From this point, Perkins talks about how Engaging in the world can sometimes mean accepting money from the government or secular foundation. Although there are limitations on what Christians ministries can do with the money they accept, Perkins explains that it is not heavy
