The article “Let Kids Run Wild Online” by Danah Boyd discusses how teenagers use social media for almost anything they can do while outside. The author explains how the parents feel that it is an issue and are scared to let their child run rampant online. They are terrified of the misfortunes that arise from being online. Since the parents are afraid they limit what the teenager can do online. While the parents think they have solved a problem they just made a new problem for their son/daughter. Since teens can talk over the phone or text online, the teens don't have to meet up or hangout. This means that the parents don't have to worry on where or what their son/daughter since they are home. So while parents think the internet is dangerous it is actually keeping their teen safe. It's keeping them from potentially doing drugs, getting hit by a vehicle, breaking an arm, or doing illegal activities. If you limit what they can do online they'll be outside more and get exposed more to these risks.

Teens should be let to go online freely because of the benefits. The benefits outweigh the dangers of being online. The parents should support their teens exploration of internet. If the parents don't support the teen and monitor him they are hurting him instead of helping.
