Paul Fisher and his family move to Tangerine, Florida, because of a new job, great football opportunities, and soccer teams in need of goalies, but they didn’t know of everything else Tangerine had in store for them. Paul and his mom drive from Houston to their new home in Tangerine. When Paul wakes up in his new house he smells smoke. Mrs. Fisher and Paul call the fire department. The fireman, Wade, explains that the smoke is coming from a muck fire behind their house. When the lignite under the ground gets struck by lightning it starts a fire that can never burn out. Paul and his mom go to Lake Windsor Middle School. Mrs. Fisher informs the principal, Mrs. Gates, about his IEP immediately, which can interfere with Paul’s schooling. All of the boys are really impressed. Paul knows before tryouts that he has a secure spot as goalie. After football practice, Erik tells Mrs. Fisher and Paul that Mike Costello was struck by lightning. The Fisher’s held a meeting later that week, at their house with all the football parents. They discussed that football practices should be held in the morning because every day at four o’clock the lightning strikes. The lightning that killed Mike.
