These updates included various security and root certificate updates. The updates were able to download to my computers, but the installation itself had failed. Regular maintenance (disc cleaner and defrag) had been performed nearly weekly. My first course of action, per Microsoft’s instruction, was to click a link on the update site which, referencing a specific error number, took me to a search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
