...Educational Preparation May 22, 2011 There are different routes in becoming a Registered Nurse. There is the 2-3 year Associate degree level (ADN), which can be obtained at a community college, and there is the four year baccalaureate degree (BSN), which can be obtained at a university. In both routes after finishing the program the candidate needs to take the licensing examination test called NCLEX-RN. When making a decision of what route to take the difference in competencies need to be taken into consideration. Differences include level of knowledge, skill preparation, and clinical judgment. A BSN degree nurse has a more comprehensive knowledge base than those who have an ADN. The bachelor nursing program includes everything taught to an associate degree nurse plus more detailed studies on physical and social sciences, public and community health, humanities, nursing research, and nursing management. Nurses that obtain a baccalaureate degree in nursing have a broader knowledge of disease prevention, health promotion, and risk reduction (Ellis, 2007). Having a BSN degree prepares a nurse to deal with illness and disease management in a more efficient way than an ADN nurse. In addition, those who obtain a BSN degree must be able to make critical decisions about patient care and learn to understand more in depth about the patho-physiology of disease processes (Forster, 2008). The ADN education is more task orientated, putting less emphasis on applying critical thinking...

...Recruitment – Internal vs. External As the world today keeps changing and the economy struggles to maintain workforce; there needs to be a lot of things truly thought out before just posting a job and hiring a person. I know in the company that I work for in which I am the Director of HR/Payroll of a management group for eight places; one fireplace/landscape business, three donut shops, and.five assisted living facilities; we have general guidelines of posting jobs and process for recruiting but then there are many things that then must be specific to the industry of those business. I also did research and found that many have the same issues we do and what they feel is the key things to know for doing recruiting. In the management group we have developed a HR manual which has policy and procedures that must be followed for doing the steps for recruitment and the follow through to get the candidates hired. As I have attached a copy of the request for recruitment form, job requisition form and the job duties questionnaire and the job description form which are the tools we use to get positions approved and filled for the company in Appendix A. There is a step-by-step for doing the recruiting and where to post the jobs. We then follow this step up with the interview process and pre & post offer screening and then the orientation of new hire. The initial start of the process is what our philosophy is: (this is from our HR policy manual) Philosophy: ...

...Public Policing vs. Private Security Public Policing vs. Private Security It is in my estimation, public policing stands for more in society than private security because of the funding provided. The duties and responsibilities to enforce the law and maintain order in society is that of public policing. Agencies paid to perform the protective and lost-prevention type duties not handled by police officers are the private security agencies. Society needs to know the pros and cons for each agency to ensure that agency will protect him or her for the correct reasons. In comparing public policing and private security for society, most individuals need to see the different branches and what each agency offers to ensure the best for the situation. Most agencies leave a good review for society and attempt to provide information on public locations for society to view to gain more knowledge about each system and organization. There are several distinct differences between public policing and private security. Public policing does the following: 1) maintain order, 2) performs community service, 3) detect crime, 4) handle crime, and 5) prevent crime, 6) traffic control, 7) stop and questioning an individual, 8) search/seize individuals and their personal belongings, 9) conduct interrogations, and 10) arrest an individual. Private security does the following paid duties: 1) serves as an escort, 2) patrol housing and business areas, 3) serves as guards at gates, 4) transport valuables...

... Dynamic Holiday Limited Biometric Authentication Report Introduction This report aims to give a brief overview of the alternatives to the current authentication system being used at Dynamic Holidays Limited. Specifically it will detail the technologies behind both fingerprint and iris scanning, doing a comparison of each in turn, and then ultimately leading to a recommendation as to which would suit the company better. Biometric Overview Biometrics, or the singular biometric, is the measurement of living things and in most contexts details the measurement of human beings for security and authentication purposes. This stems from the Greek bios (life) and metron (measure). In a security environment, biometrics are utilised to ensure that the correct people have access to the products and services to which they are entitled. The field of biometrics covers a wide scope of technologies, including but not limited to facial, iris, fingerprint and DNA recognition. Within the field of biometrics, there are generally two sources of identification classifications: physiological and behavioural. Physiological characteristics are those that we are born with and do not usually change (iris and fingerprints), especially once we have reached adulthood. This excludes the nature of physical injury or various other medical or traumatic interventions. Behavioural characteristics are ingrained within us as we grow and develop (gait and signature)...

Staff meetings held during work hours, discussion boxes, timeout rooms, and partnerships with massage clinics are all changes that can provide stress relief for nurses. These changes are not too costly for the facility, and in the end, will result in less money spent on errors and injuries. The issues and changes must be discussed with a representative at each level (nurse, manager, supervisor, and budget analyzer). Technical changes encounter less resistance than social changes. Employees should be allowed to voice their concerns and opinions anonymously, written, or verbally. Information...

...At this time, unfortunately, a convergence in terminology has not been forthcoming and, hence, a definition of the term Micro-Machining to be implied in the context of this assessment is in order. In principle, one may take two viewpoints:(1) The first viewpoint may define Micro-Machining as the collection of all cutting operations that are performed on micro/meso-scale components and products that fall into the 100 μm to 10,000 μm size range as shown in the figure below. The Micro-Machining regime is characterized by the requirement of producing high accuracy complex geometric features in a wide variety of materials in the above-defined size range. These requirements impose the use of considerably downsized tooling (micro-tools, e.g. endmills in the 50 to 500 micron diameter range), small undeformed chip thicknesses and feedrates (submicron to a few microns) and speed settings (50K to 200K RPM might not be uncommon) that would be considered technologically infeasible at the conventional macro-scale. As a consequence, the principal distinction between Macro and Micro-Machining operations emerges and manifests itself as the dominance of ploughing and rubbing phenomena at the cutting edge over shearing and the necessity to take micro-structural effects into consideration. (2) The second viewpoint approaches the definition of the Micro-Machining regime from the standpoint of the magnitude of the undeformed chip thickness being removed in the cutting process. It is difficult to define...

...supports X jobs in an area or that a festival or special event generated Y million dollars in sales or income in a community. “Multiplier effects” are often cited to capture secondary effects of tourism spending and show the wide range of sectors in a community that may benefit from tourism. Tourism’s economic benefits are touted by the industry for a variety of reasons. Claims of tourism’s economic significance give the industry greater respect among the business community, public officials, and the public in general. This often translates into decisions or public policies that are favorable to tourism. Community support is important for tourism, as it is an activity that affects the entire community. Tourism businesses depend extensively on each other as well as on other businesses, government and residents of the local community. Economic benefits and costs of tourism reach virtually everyone in the region in one way or another. Economic impact analyses provide tangible estimates of these economic interdependencies and a better understanding of the role and importance of tourism in a region’s economy. Tourism activity also involves economic costs, including the direct costs incurred by tourism businesses, government costs for infrastructure to better serve tourists, as well as congestion and related costs borne by individuals in the community. Community decisions over tourism often involve debates between industry proponents touting tourism’s economic impacts (benefits)...
