...Behavioral Interviews General Tips Most candidates approaching finance interviews stress over the technical questions. However, answering a behavioral question in a “less than desirable way” or fumbling around without a legitimate answer can do even more damage than missing a technical question. Analysts will spend 80+ hours per week with their co-workers, so proving you are someone they will enjoy being around is more important than proving you know how to work your way through a discounted cash flow model. That does not mean that we suggest you not thoroughly prepare for the technical aspect of the interview as well! Once you get the job, your firm will put you through a rigorous training session. Your company will assume you have little prior financial knowledge so they are not looking for the next finance wizard or CFO — they are looking for someone they will be comfortable working with for the next two years and who will be able to handle the demands of the job. First impressions are crucial so as you walk through the door and give your interviewer a firm handshake, make sure to wear a friendly smile and relax if you are nervous. You won’t die, we promise. Try to turn any nervousness into positive energy that can be interpreted as enthusiasm for the position. The person across the table could be sitting there for eight straight hours interviewing 16 kids in a row. He/she will get bored if there is no passion in your voice and no conviction in your speech. This...

...enquiries. An interview should generally strive to answer basic questions: who, what, where, when, how and why”. Redelman G.F says “the purpose of an interview is to gather information about the application’s competence and work experience so that you can select the best qualified candidate”. Interview Guiding Principles Your goal is to have a fair and effective process for conducting interviews. Statutes governing fair employment cover the interview process as well as the selection of the candidate. To ensure fairness, you should: * Conduct structured interviews in which each candidate is asked a predetermined set of questions and all candidates are measured against the same criteria * Treat all candidates in a fair, equal, and consistent manner * Eliminate cultural or other forms of bias in the interview process * Evaluate candidates effectively by developing and asking a variety of questions, including direct, open-ended, and situational questions * Keep your top candidates interested by completing the interview process quickly * Choose the best candidate for the job Interview format * Competency/criteria-based interviews- these are structured to reflect the competencies or qualities required by the job. The interviewers are looking for evidence of your skills and abilities and expect you to support your answers with examples of your experience from your life to date. * Technical interviews - if you...

...Interview Question 1: How would you explain the nature of the panel interview Maria had to endure? Specifically do you think it reflected a well thought out interviewing strategy on the part of the firm or carelessness on the part of the firm’s management? If it was carelessness, what would you do to improve the interview process at Apex Environmental? Answer: The overall expression of the interview was so stressful. This is because Maria Fernandez was a bright popular and well informed mechanical engineer, who graduated with an engineering degree from State University in June 2003. As she was a bright and intelligent engineer she always expected a job which can evaluate or where she can implement her working capability and exclusively one her technical skill expertise. So a firm likes Apex Environmental which is a well known and structured firm where Maria most wanted to work. This can evaluate her working ability perfectly. That was her expectation. But the interview was a disaster for her because it was an Stress interview. The interviewer seeks to make applicant uncomfortable with occasionally rude question. The question ranged from unnecessarily discourteous to irrelevant and sexist such. This it reflected a well thought out interviewing strategy on the part of the firm because it helps to identify hypersensitive applicants and those with low high stress tolerance and Maria was selected because of her responsible and mature behavior. To respond the question whether it...

...indication of it at all. Avoid doing the same thing. When communicating with others, it's just as important that people be aware that you're listening as it is that you're actually listening. For that reason, be involved with and react to what the other person is saying, either via a nod, or an "I see," or a paraphrase of the other person's statements. You'll strengthen your own understanding and make a better impression. #3: Avoid negative questions Suppose you say to a customer, "You don't have Word installed?" and he answers "Yes." What does he mean? Yes, you're right, Word is not installed? Or yes, he DOES have Word installed? Asking a negative question creates confusion. It's clearer if you phrase the question positively (e.g., "Do you have Word installed?") or ask an open-ended question ("What applications do you have installed?"). If you must use the negative, try a question such as "Am I correct that you don't have Word installed?" #4: Be sensitive to differences in technical knowledge Chances are, your customers have less technical knowledge than you do. Be careful, therefore, when...

...excel in any technical field to include engineering, law and technical sales. I could definitely understand the results and the questions in the survey seemed to be logical and presented in a way to which I wasn’t forced to contradict myself as I would see in a later segment. The Competencies segment was also logical and I would agree with the findings. It showed strengths in the areas of taking initiative, coping with pressure, applying expertise, writing, researching and presenting. I do hold myself to a high standard in all of those categories and already consider those some of my strengths. Under the Work Culture Preference section I found the questions to be trivial and the restrictions on how the answers were to be submitted forced me to directly contradict previous answers. There were a great number of questions repeated but due to the compound questions and the format in which they were presented I found myself frustrated and unable to accurately answer. An example is similar to having the user choose their single favorite and single least favorite among three choices: dogs, leadership and having a great time. The three answers were rarely related and the dynamic is confusing at best. Still the results showed a random compliment in a great number of facets. This was by far my lease favorite section. The next and final section was Reasoning Aptitude. I found this entertaining in that it actually required the deciphering of facts listed in the question text to correctly...

...Week 2 Discussion Question 1: Imagine you have been hired by the University of Phoenix IT department. Your first task is to determine the business requirements for enhancing the Online Learning System which is used by students, facilitators and administrators. To do this, you decide to hold a brainstorming session. Answer the following questions about your brainstorming session: • Which stakeholders will you invite to your brainstorming session? Be specific on your stakeholders. Why? • What questions you will ask them? Why are these questions important? Answer: Before discussing the objectives of Online Learning System, I find it important to define the definition of stakeholders. Stakeholders basically refers to a person, group or an organization that has direct or indirect effect on an organization as it can affect or be affected by the company’s actions and policies. Usually key stakeholders in a business organization include creditors, directors, consumers, employees, owners and community from which the business draws its resources. The Online Learning System is usually used by the students, facilitators and administrators but it somehow affects the technical staff and to some extent the president also. Being focused, facilitators, students and administrators are the key stakeholders in this case because they are the ones who use the Online Learning System on daily bases and by implementing a user friendly system they will be benefitted to a greater extent. However...

...smoother. First t I would contact my instructor in the classroom and by email. In that example it wouldn’t be technical but if I was to have an emergency of that kind I would also contact technical support. Depending on the problem it would be a good idea for me to contact my academic and financial counselor again by phone and email. It is a good idea to write down all of the important contact information off of the computer so I always have it handy. 2. I would first login in to the campus common and from there I would click on my academics. After selecting my program I would then click on the course I had a question or concern about. When the pop up window came up I would click on textbook information and again on material requirements. If I still had questions I would go back in and print both lists and call my academic counselor. 3. If I were struggling with an assignment I would first go to my campus common and click on my academics then click again on tutoring center. I would then explore my options to get the help I needed. I could choose online tutoring, or software tutorials to help me. If I was still struggling I would contact my instructor by posting a question under questions for the professor. 4. If I was told my participation lacks substance I would definitely take a second look to make sure I was using what I had read and understanding it, asking questions to get someone else’s view...
