Analysis and Interpretation
Sadao didn't ask about the scars because if he will ask he might feel sorry for Tom and will get attached to him. He can't know Tom because he know he will need to turn him over and it will be hard for him.
Tom is afraid to get better because he know that when he will get better Sadao and Hana will turn him back to prison so he will be again a prisoner of war or get killed there.
