...Religion is a fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a group of people. These set of beliefs concern the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, and involve devotional and ritual fulfillments. They also often contain a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. In Swidler and Mojzes book (The Study of Religion in an age of Global Dialogue), religion is an explanation of the ultimate meaning of life, and how to live accordingly; based on a notion of the Transcendent. The code explained in detail from the book contains the four "C's": Creed, Code, Cult, and Community-structure. “Creed refers to the cognitive aspect of a religion; it is everything that goes into the "explanation" of the ultimate meaning of life....

...to join our team at Mountain is one of the most important tasks of leadership. Few decisions have a longer-term impact on a church’s health and mission than the people it hires. Selecting wisely can move the mission forward and heighten a positive staff culture. Selecting poorly can derail or deter the mission, hold back a given ministry area, or create negative energy within the entire church. We always enter the hiring process by stating clearly that we want what God wants. If God is directing us to hire someone, we believe we can determine his will through a deliberate process. This includes face-to-face contact and the involvement of discerning people. Getting a Clear Picture Our goal is to get a clear picture of the candidate’s “four C’s”: character, competence, chemistry, and calling. Character is the heart and integrity of a Christian leader. Competence includes the skill sets, gifts, education, experience, and leadership required to fulfill the responsibilities. Chemistry is the degree to which a person fits within the staff team and staff culture. This includes the specific team in which the person would be serving and the church staff as a whole. Calling is the person’s sense of God’s voice directing him or her to this particular role, to our particular church and mission, and to impact our community (the most unchurched county in Maryland). We can gain some understanding of these qualities through phone calls, reference checks, and a personal questionnaire, but...

... However, this is not to say that military leaders have completely stepped down from politics. In fact, countries such as Libya and Pakistan still have military rulers in the highest positions of government. In other countries the armed forces continue to exert considerable influence over civilian political leaders. Prior to the nineteen eighties military involvement in politics of the developing world was pervasive. It was considered by some to be a defining feature of political underdevelopment. And certainly it was a feature of extreme instability within nations. A study of fifty nine developing nations shows that between nineteen forty six and nineteen seventy, there were two hundred and seventy four attempted military coups. Some countries experienced four to five takeover attempts within that period. You may recall from our week one lesson that political scientists agree political stability is essential to development. It seems logical to conclude that this type of upheaval can only be a hindrance to the economic, social and political development so...

...Assignment 3 Kendall Nelson 1) What does the position of enterprise architect entail? What qualifications or experiences would you think a good enterprise architect should have? Support your answer with examples from the case. As the case stated, enterprise architects need to be able to create unity. They must be able to have a broad look on situations, as well as be able to take a close up view and individual issues. A good skill to have is to be able to step back and take a look at what problems the proposed project will solve. I think that these are all qualifications that a good enterprise architect should have. The ability to focus on the big picture seems to be one that is highly stressed in the case, that way when you are designing you can focus on what the overall outcome will be and what kind of problems it will solve. 2) Consider the different companies mentioned in the case and their experiences with enterprise architecture. Does this approach seem to work better in certain types of companies or industries than in others? Why or why not? Sony was mentioned in the case as putting together a group of enterprise architects in order to save on costs. They had to start out small and then work their way up in the enterprise architect world. They didn’t have business support to begin with so they had to take small risks and help plan for the future until they had built up business support. This seemed to work for Sony as they had to focus...

...ice. That halcyon association had been dubbed the ‘Sunshine Effect’ by the UK’s National Association of Cider Makers, its sparkle catching on in the UK as C&C stormed the largest cider market in the world during the hot summers of 2005 and 2006. While initially successful ultimately the Sunshine Effect proved to be both the making and breaking of the Irish company’s market strategy for the years that followed. After 3 years of sales decline, its new CEO John Dunsmore, recruited in mid-2008 from competitor Scottish & Newcastle , was left wondering what options did the Irish cider brand face in international markets. Nothing Added But Time Differentiating Bulmer’s from the typical prejudices surrounding cider, C&C had focused on four core concepts: Time, Heritage, Tradition and Nature. Values associated with these ideas were infused into all marketing communications for the cider, including packaging and price. The alcohol content was reduced from 6.5% to 5%, the packaging was upgraded...

BERNSTEIN University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana Summary-The use is described of participant modeling procedures in the treatment of a longstanding and debilitating fear of closed places. Objective and subjective data collected immediately after treatment showed dramatic improvements which were maintained at 33 month follow-up. Participant modeling is a treatment technique emphasizing therapist demonstration of approach to graded in vivo fear stimuli, guided rehearsal by the client of progressively more difficult approach responses, and independent responses client performance of those (Bandura, 1976), This treatment package (also termed “contact desensitization” (Ritter, 1%8) has been used to attenuate fear responses to Bandura, targets such as snakes (e.g., Blanchard and Ritter, 1969; Blanchard, 1970; Ritter, 1968; Thase and Moss, 1976), heights (e.g., Ritter, 1969), water (e.g., Lewis, 1972*), rats (e.g., Lick and Bootzin, 1970), and dogs (MacDonald, 1975; Richards and Siegel, 1978). Comparative research would indicate that participant modeling is superior to other techniques commonly employed to promote fear reduction (Bandura, 1976), but Leitenberg (1976) notes a limitation to that research, namely...

...similarity to the marketing strategy they are likely to respond in the same way i.e. consisting of the product, price, place, and promotion. When beginning to start your target your market and customers you need to examine trends in the market share, product demand, buying patterns, customer needs and perceptions, demographics, and customer satisfaction. Hopefully by doing this question like: who would buy the product and why?’ and ‘how are buying patterns changing and why?’ would be answered. And hopefully many others. Peter Cheverton stated that Philip Kotler, in his book Kotler on Marketing (1999), suggests an alternative to the four P's: the four C's, encouraging us to look at the market through our customers' eyes. He isn’t stating that the four P’s cannot do this but the four C’s can better express the meaning. This would be the four C’s: • Product becomes customer value, reminding us not only that everything is in the eye of the beholder, but also that successful products must provide genuine value to the customer. • Price becomes cost to the customer, reminding us that price is simply a marker and that the full costs in use are of much greater significance in most purchases. • Place becomes convenience, which is certainly a much...

...Marketing mix The Marketing mix is generally accepted as the use and specification of the "four P's" describing the strategic position of a product in the marketplace. One version of the marketing mix originated in 1948 when James Culliton said that a marketing decision should be a result of something similar to a recipe. This version was used in 1953 when Neil Borden, in his American Marketing Association presidential address, took the recipe idea one step further and coined the term "Marketing-Mix". A prominent marketer, E. Jerome McCarthy, proposed a 4 P classification in 1960, which has seen wide use. The four Ps concept is explained in most marketing textbooks and classes. Definition A"Marketing Mix" is the set of controllable, tactical marketing tools that work together to achieve company's objectives, they are: product, price, promotion and place: o Product - A tangible object or an intangible service that is mass produced or manufactured on a large scale with a specific volume of units. Intangible products are often service based like the tourism industry & the hotel industry. Typical examples of a mass produced tangible object are the motor car and the disposable razor. A less obvious but ubiquitous mass produced service is a computer operating system. o Price – The price is the amount a customer pays for the product. It is determined by a number of factors including market share, competition, material costs, product identity and the customer's...

Brief Summary, which outlines each chapter in Chapters 7 through 13, including the conclusion. This write-up shall also have a section, titled III. Application, which shall apply the material from § II. Brief Summary to a firm (hereinafter "Firm A") with which I worked as a business consultant. Firm A is a multi-national holding company that specializes in acquiring, supporting, and growing its subsidiary companies through accelerated organic growth as well as through acquisitions and/or strategic joint ventures and divestitures. II. Brief Summary Chapter 7. The Third Imperative: Capitalize on the Customer as an Asset For a firm, the profitability of the customer asset - the sum of the discounted long-term profits associated with the customer's purchases and referrals - is based on three principles. First, that a firm must distinguish between behavioral loyalty – the frequency of customer purchases from a firm when a need arises – and attitudinal loyalty – an attachment to the firm and/or its specific products or services. Second, that a firm must manage customers to engage in behaviors that directly...

...Jeffrey Schmeltz Feature Story November 25, 2013 Rebuilding History When this season started and fans looked over to the Celtics sidelines there would be no Doc Rivers calling plays, there would be no Kevin Garnett getting his team fired up, and most historically for the first time in 15 years “The Truth”, Paul Pierce would not be leading the team. After the 2008 Championship, it was only a matter of time till this happened because of the Celtics aging stars. The team was left in shambles and the only piece that remained from the championship years was point guard Rajon Rondo, who suffered a serious knee injury the previous season. Despite Rondos setback, he was still going to have to be the star of the team. He is a proven franchise player with his improving scoring ability, 13.7 ppg in 2012-13 which was the highest of his career, and high assist totals over 11 per game the last three seasons, leading the league the last two. Ainge is already counting on Rondo to be the franchise player, and that he is a beloved player in Boston. Ainge said this to Boston Globe reporters, “Rondo is coming off and injury and I think people know how much we love Rondo. People know that Rondo is a big part of our future and that we’re not going to trade him.” Ainge called him “the centerpiece of our future.” The Celtics front office hired Butler University’s Brad Stevens as their head coach. Stevens had taken his college team to two national championships despite being only 37, which...
