The Frog Prince

One fine evening a young princess put on her bonnet and clogs, and went out to take a walk by herself in a wood; and when she came to a cool spring of water with a rose in the middle of it, she sat herself down to rest a while. Now she had a golden ball in her hand, which was her favourite plaything; and she was always tossing it up into the air, and catching it again as it fell. After a time she threw it up so high that she missed catching it as it fell; and the ball bounded away, and rolled along on the ground, until at last it fell down into the spring. The princess looked into the spring after her ball, but it was very deep, so deep that she could not see the bottom of it. She began to cry, and said, 'Alas! if I could only get my ball again, I would give all my fine clothes and jewels, and everything that I have in the world.' Whilst she was speaking, a frog put its head out of the water, and said, 'Princess, why do you weep so bitterly?' 'Alas!' said she, 'what can you do for me, you nasty frog? My golden ball has fallen into the spring.' The frog said, 'I do not want your pearls, and jewels, and fine clothes; but if you will love me, and let me live with you and eat from off your golden plate, and sleep on your bed, I will bring you your ball again.' 'What nonsense,' thought the princess, 'this silly frog is talking! He can never even get out of the spring to visit me, though he may be able to get my ball for me, and therefore I will tell him he shall have what he asks.' So she said to the frog, 'Well, if you will bring me my ball, I will do all you ask.' Then the frog put his head down, and dived deep under the water; and after a little while he came up again, with the ball in his mouth, and threw it on the edge of the spring. As soon as the young princess saw her ball, she ran to pick it up; and she was so overjoyed to have it in her hand again, that she never thought of the frog, but ran home with it as fast as she could.

The frog called after her, 'Stay, princess, and take me with you as you said,' But she did not stop to hear a word. The next day, just as the princess had sat down to dinner, she heard a strange noise - tap, tap - plash, plash - as if something was coming up the marble staircase, and soon afterwards there was a gentle knock at the door, and a little voice cried out and said: 'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.' Then the princess ran to the door and opened it, and there she saw the frog, whom she had quite forgotten. At this sight she was sadly frightened, and shutting the door as fast as she could came back to her seat. The king, her father, seeing that something had frightened her, asked her what was the matter. 'There is a nasty frog,' said she, 'at the door, that lifted my ball for me out of the spring this morning. I told him that he should live with me here, thinking that he could never get out of the spring; but there he is at the door, and he wants to come in.' While she was speaking the frog knocked again at the door, and said: 'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.' Then the king said to the young princess, 'As you have given your word you must keep it; so go and let him in.' She did so, and the frog hopped into the room, and then straight on - tap, tap - plash, plash - from the bottom of the room to the top, till he came up close to the table where the princess sat. 'Pray lift me upon chair,' said he to the princess, 'and let me sit next to you.' As soon as she had done this, the frog said, 'Put your plate nearer to me, that I may eat out of it.' This she did, and when he had eaten as much as he could, he said, 'Now I am tired; carry me upstairs, and put me into your bed.' And the princess, though very unwilling, took him up in her hand, and put him upon the pillow of her own bed, where he slept all night long.

As soon as it was light the frog jumped up, hopped downstairs, and went out of the house. 'Now, then,' thought the princess, 'at last he is gone, and I shall be troubled with him no more.' But she was mistaken; for when night came again she heard the same tapping at the door; and the frog came once more, and said: 'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.' And when the princess opened the door the frog came in, and slept upon her pillow as before, till the morning broke. And the third night he did the same. But when the princess awoke on the following morning she was astonished to see, instead of the frog, a handsome prince, gazing on her with the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen and standing at the head of her bed. He told her that he had been enchanted by a spiteful fairy, who had changed him into a frog; and that he had been fated so to abide till some princess should take him out of the spring, and let him eat from her plate, and sleep upon her bed for three nights. 'You,' said the prince, 'have broken his cruel charm, and now I have nothing to wish for but that you should go with me into my father's kingdom, where I will marry you, and love you as long as you live.' The young princess, you may be sure, was not long in saying 'Yes' to all this; and as they spoke a brightly coloured coach drove up, with eight beautiful horses, decked with plumes of feathers and a golden harness; and behind the coach rode the prince's servant, faithful Heinrich, who had bewailed the misfortunes of his dear master during his enchantment so long and so bitterly, that his heart had well-nigh burst. They then took leave of the king, and got into the coach with eight horses, and all set out, full of joy and merriment, for the prince's kingdom, which they reached safely; and there they lived happily a great many years.

...THE FROG PRINCESS Long ago, in ancient times, there was a king who had three sons, all of them grown. The king said: “My children, let each of you make a bow for himself and shoot an arrow. She who brings back you arrow will be your bride; he whose arrow is not brought back will not marry.” The eldest son shot his arrow, and a general’s daughter brought it back to him. The second shot his arrow and landowners haughtier brought it back to him. But little prince Ivan’s arrow was brought back from the marsh of the frog who held it between her teeth. His brothers were joyous and happy but Prince Ivan became thoughtful and wept: “How will I live with a frog? After all, this is a little task, not like walking across a field!” He wept and wept, but there was no way out o9f it, so he took the frog to wife. All three sons and their brides were wed in accordance with the customs of their country; the frog was held on a dish. They began living together. One day the king asked that all three brides make him gifts, so that he could see which of them was the skillful. Prince Ivan again became thoughtful and wept: “What can my frog make? Everyone will laugh at me!” The frog only hopped about on the floor and croaked. When Prince Ivan fell asleep, she went out into the street, cast of her skin, turned into a lovely maiden, and cried: “Nurses, nurses! Make something!” The nurses at once brought a finely woven shirt. She took it, folded it, placed it beside Prince Ivan, and again turned herself...

Film Critique Walt Disney’s the Princess and the Frog

...Film Critique Walt Disney’s The Princess and the frog I am going to write about three issues that I noticed in the film “The Princess and the Frog” by Disney. The three topics I am going to talk about are classism, discrimination, and stereotypes in that respected order. This film brought up several issues, but those are the three I chose to focus on because these three were more predominate throughout the film. Set in New Orleans at the beginning of the 20th century, The Princess and the Frog concerns a poor African-American girl named Tiana who has a knack for cooking, and dreams of opening her own restaurant. Her best friend since childhood is a privileged white girl whose wealthy father employs Tiana's mother as a dressmaker. When the friend's family hosts a party for Prince Naveen of Maldonia, Dr. Facilier,a.k.a the Shadow Man, an expert in black magic, turns the visiting royal into a frog. The now amphibious Naveen convinces Tiana that a kiss will reverse the spell, and if she obliges him he'll provide the money she needs to open her dream restaurant. However, their smooch not only fails to turn him back into a human, but transforms Tiana into a frog as well. The duo then sets out to find a voodoo priestess who can set everything right.“www.fandango.com “ Let’s start with classism, which a biased or discriminatory attitude based on distinctions is made between social or economic classes or the viewing of society as being composed of distinct classes. A Real New Princess Analysis

...friend” Charlotte represents the cliché white, blonde, spoiled and rich girl that calls her father “big daddy”. She certainly believes that wishing upon a star will solve one's problems. Her dreams have always been about marrying a prince and becoming a princess, although her father could afford all the tiaras in the world. Moreover, writers use the song: “Down in New Orleans” to describe the city and its people (Newman, Down in New Orleans -The Princess and the Frog). However, a certain lyric: “Where the women are very pretty and all the men deliver” assumes that all women are sexualized objects and reduces their significance, in the community, to their looks. Finally, the biggest womanizer and playboy of all: Prince Naveen, he certainly is the epitome of sexism. When Naveen, Louis the alligator, and Tiana sing another song “When We’re Human”, animals dance and gather around them. Naveen’s part goes like this: “… A redhead on my left arm, A brunette on my right, A blonde or two to hold the candles, Now that seems just about right…” during those lyrics multicolored butterflies are represented as female exotic dancers around him, showing the swiftness of getting girls when he is a rich and handsome prince (Newman, When we are human: The Princess and the Frog...

Transactional Analysis

...Games People Play has sold millions of copies and is quite deserving of its place among the psychology classics. This essay will explore transactional analysis. It will explore the concepts which underpin this theory and look at it in comparison to other psychotherapeutic models. Finally, it shall explore how transactional analysis may be used within the therapeutic relationship. I will now begin by exploring the key principles within the theory of transactional analysis. The Princess and the Frog: Once upon a time, a wicked witch cast a spell upon a handsome prince, turning him into a frog. The only way in which the spell could be broken was with a kiss from a princess who loved him. When this happened, he would be set free and would live happily ever after with his princess. Berne stated that “Every human being is born a prince or a princess; early experiences convince some that they are frogs, and the rest of the pathological development follows from this”.# Like the prince in the story, we are all born as perfect and complete...

This work was inspirational at the time, as many women didn't write about what they went through. She wrote about sensitive topics that could cause a lot of controversy. Walt Disney Research Paper

...For several decades, Walt Disney has been a popular series of films among families. Ever since the release of Snow White in 1937, Disney princesses have captured the hearts of children everywhere and have been role models for them. Throughout the films, each princess has had their own story and their own obstacles to overcome, though some of these obstacles weren’t overcome by themselves. In earlier movies, it was necessary for their prince charming to rescue them. From damsel in distress to independence, the women of Disney have changed as a result of United States History. When Disney came out with its first full length movie, Snow White, it didn’t intend on having princesses as being a commercial entity. This wasn’t truly an idea until...

Frog King and Beauty and the Beast

...The story of “Frog King” is talking about a frog and the king’s youngest daughter, which is very beautiful. Form this story, I learned that everyone should be integrity and feel grateful, and then we will get happiness. Just like the princess and the frog. Frog helped princess before, so she did all the things according to frog’s requirement even though the princess do not want to keep her promise originally. Anyhow, the princess comes true her own words. If not, they will not get such happy ending. Beauty is such an obedient girl and she loves the beast although he is so ugly. It will be seen from this that beauty not just judge the beast by his looks. Personally, “Beauty and the beast” is similar with “Frog king”. The frog and the beast are all prince who had cast a spell on them. In some degrees, the princess and beauty are both honest and trust worthy so that they deserve living with their husband for a long time in perfect happiness. In my opinion, the reason of two heroine can get happiness at the end is their own high quality. They are worth to have happiness. The stories also warned people should be trustworthy, always grateful, obedient and never judge people form appearances. I've never noticed the ownership of fairy tales before I read the third article. It reminds me the ownership is so important. However, different people have different opinions. Besides, it also makes the fairy tale even greater in my...

Passionate Dreamer

...No one else saw the impossible dream until it was finished in 1512. My heart bleeds to say that with growing age comes constantly fading credence to dream. We seldom realize the incredible power that we have within us; the power to believe in ourselves & live our visions. Ironically we tend to focus more than needed on the criticism & pessimistic talks pelted on us making us believe in 1000 reasons to not set out fearlessly to achieve the dream that we have. I would like to share the story of 3 Frogs that I read a while back: There was once a bunch of 3 tiny frogs, who arranged a running competition. The goal was to reach the top of a very high tower. A big crowd gathered around the tower to see the race and cheer on the contestants. The race began… No one in the crowd really believed that the tiny frogs would reach the top of the tower. They shouted, “Oh, way too difficult!!! They will NEVER make it to the top” and “Not a chance. The tower is too high”. The tiny frogs began...

Disney Princess

...of the Disney world. Some particular films that I have studied include ‘Cinderella’, ‘Snow White’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Beauty and The Beast’, ‘Tangled’, and ‘Mulan’. Through the utilization of those films, I have carried my study in an order that would allow me to scrutinize the similarities assigned to the ‘pink’ customs fitted to Disney princesses, and any other differences that could break the code followed through years on the films – hence an investigation in the representation of conventional Disney princesses. Disney films have allowed children to compose a preconceived idea of women or female roles in the films or even in life altogether, as helpless, and in need of an external party (usually male – or the Prince Charming) to come in and switch their lives into the better. These stereotypical roles assigned to the princesses are usually coloured with the hue of certain behaviours, physical appearances and characteristic traits, which I will be looking into radically through the essay. For example, one factor that is most recurrent in Disney films is the value of physical appearance over wit or intellect. Secondly, the defenselessness and...
