When I sit back and think about memories, I always seem to think about Hurricane Katrina. It occurred in the year of 2005 in New Orleans. This hurricane really changed my perspective on life and it made me realize to always be appreciative.
When the hurricane took place I was five years old at the time and I was living in New Orleans, Louisiana. I remember the moment when my family and I was watching the news and we were trying to figure out whether or not if the hurricane was really coming. I remember the news reporter saying “Its hurricane season but it looks like it isn’t coming until a few days or a week so there’s nothing to worry about”. Every time I think about that moment, I get upset because I wonder if my family actually did listen to her by not worrying about the hurricane or by not leaving in time. …show more content…
On that day my family and I didn’t really have a place to go so we just basically drove until we saw a place that was safe and far enough from where the hurricane was coming. When we finally found a place, it was night time. I didn’t really know where we were but I knew this place was going to be my home for a few days. The next morning when I woke up, I remember seeing so many people that I didn’t know in this one big room with so many sad faces. Living in that shelter was so much different from living in New Orleans. There were so many sleepless nights, some nights I couldn’t even sleep because I was so worried about my surroundings. We weren’t really use to living like this; we couldn’t do anything we wanted to when we wanted to. We had to listen to people who owned the

When the obligation is based on moral and ethical considerations, it is a moral duty. Often we think about moral duties in terms of rules that restrain us, the “don’ts,” as in don’t lie, cheat, or steal. Such rules comprise the so-called negative dimension of moral duty because they tell us what not to do. Since ethics is concerned with the way we ought to be, however, it also includes an affirmative dimension consisting of things we should do — keep promises, judge others fairly, treat people with respect, kindness and compassion. Sources of Moral Obligation Moral obligations can arise from three sources. The first, strangely enough, is law. 1. Law-Based Moral Obligations. Good citizens have a moral as well as a legal obligation to abide by laws; it is part of the assumed social contract of a civilized society. If a law is unjust, however, (such as those that mandated ethnic and religious persecution during the Nazi regime and those that discriminated against a person on the basis of race in South Africa and elsewhere) there may be a moral obligation to disobey it under the specific and demanding doctrine of civil disobedience.
