The Newton Car project was an assignment that asked people to create a car that was propelled by Newton’s 3rd law of motion (For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction). I achieved this by using several different materials to optimize the aerodynamics and weight of my car. For the frame of my car, I used a balsa wood plane, as well as the propellor from it. I attached the propellor to the front of the wooden frame, and mounted the wheels to the bottom. This design is extremely lightweight and makes it easier for the car to travel longer distances. There is also a rubber band running from the propellor to approximately ⅔s of the way down the frame so that the propellor can be wound up. I used several different materials: cardstock, KNEX, and other various household items, but to no avail. I searched through the cabinets at our house, and found two identical jar lids laying in the back. I measured them, and sure enough, the fit onto the car. Once I had the wheels, I still needed a way to attach them onto the car. I tried several different methods, but none of them seemed to hold the wheels on for long enough, as they would always slip off during the drive. I remembered that I still had cardstock remaining from my attempts at making wheels earlier, and wondered if those could be used to create a type of undercarriage for my car. I took a business card and folded it to create an undercarriage, then punched small holes in it using a toothpick. I then ran the toothpick through the two holes, and put one wheel (jar lid) on each end, and used tape to secure the ends of the axles (toothpick) to ensure that the wheels would not slip off while driving. When I tested the car, sometimes the car would flip over or veer in one direction, but for the most part, the car would travel at least 1.5 meters, meeting the minimum
