...American Revolution A revolution is when a government is overthrown, because the citizens believe in a new system. This can lead up to a war. There have been many revolutions throughout history. The revolution I believe has had the largest impact was the American Revolution. The American Revolution began in 1763 and went on until 1787. This revolution wasn’t just one event it was many small events that led up to a large war. It began with the signing of The Treaty of Paris, which put an end the the French and Indian war. A little after that they started passing all these different acts that the citizens were against. Begaing with the Sugar Act. The Sugar Act put a tax and sugar. ...The French Revolution Before the French Revolution, France was ruled and governed by the king and parliament. King Louis XVI ruled by “divine right,” believing that he had been put on the throne by the grace of God. France then was one of the most powerful and wealthiest countries, and had a strong army, and even stronger cultural influence. Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette were shielded from the daily lives of the ordinary people in France. When Louis XVI inherited the throne in 1774, he also inherited many problems left behind by the previous king, King Louis XV. France was divided into three estates with their own status and role to play in the country. The First Estate involved religious people in the country. The Second Estate involved all the nobles. These two estates had many privileges, and were the wealthiest group, but were only a small piece of the entire population. The Third Estate was everyone else in the country: the peasants, poor city dwellers, and the “middle class”. The Third Estate was the largest group, and had little to no power, even though it was the largest group. In order to pay off national debts, Louis XVI increased taxes in the Third Estate, which impacted many of their lives. Because of the taxes, industry started to lag, and there were bread shortages in many places. They barely had any food and had to live of bread. King Louis XVI was a bad king and the people had every right to hate him and his wife. The people didn’t have any...

...WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2015 MORNING DEVOTION. HINDERANCES TO REVOLUTION IN FRIENDSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS PART 1 TODAY'S SCRIPTURE."Friends love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble."(Proverbs 17:17 MSG) Friendship is a powerful force that guarantees success! Failure is an orphan. If you know how to keep friends, you will become a success in whatever you do. Your revolution in life is determined by how good you are at making friends and keeping them. If you have a habit of negatively surprising your friends and those you relate with, you will live a lonely life and even God said it is not good for man to be alone. The first thing that destroys friendship is selfishness. Everyone detests selfish people! Selfishness is evident when all you look out for in a friendship or relationship is what you will gain. Friendships do not last when you are selfish. Being a "fair weather" friend is also wrong. The opening scripture says a friend loves at all times; through thick and thin,in bad, good and rough times. A wise man said "a friend in need is a friend indeed"! Do not turn your back on your friends in their dark hours when they need you most. Just like Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus, betrayal is one of the worst things one can experience from friends . It is devastating to see people you call your friends turnaround and stab you in the back. It is worse when they divulge your secrets and fight you publicly. Today's Response ...

...society. The definition of a revolution varies, depending who you ask. Most would say the definition of a revolution is an overthrow of an established government or political system by the people governed. It also may be defined as a radical and pervasive change in society and the social structure, especially one made suddenly and often accompanied by violence. Revolution effect on society varies. Revolutions have both a positive and negative effect on people and society in which it takes place. For example the industrial revolution made sever changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transportation and technology. This revolution made things easier for people; the machinery invented made working much easier. You didn't have to pull a plow because a tractor did it for you. Technology had profound effect socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the times. The industrial revolution began in the United Kingdom but spread throughout Europe, North America and eventually the rest of the world. This Revolution marks a major turning point in human history. The American revolution had a large impact on woman and their rights. The American Revolution had a large impact on slavery also. Woman before this time had little to now rights at all. Women's roles became more valued for their aid in the revolution and were under the idea of "Republican motherhood" or mothers for the new nation. They began to have ideas of the revolution stimulate hopes and expectations...

...The movement of recovered companies in present day Argentina truly is a “new workers” revolution in Argentina and a viable alternative to neo- liberalism. This movement exemplifies all the qualities that workers look for when part of a company. Equality, growth, and a pleasant working environment are most of the qualities that this movement provides. A revolution is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. So this movement of recovered companies is truly a “new workers” revolution in Argentina. After these businesses where closed and caused many people to become unemployed it was up to the people to figure out how to feed their families and get their lives back. To many of the workers the company jobs were an extremely high source of income and also became a way of life due to the years they put in at the factory. So when everything for them hit the wall and it seemed as though they had no options at hand they knew they had to get the companies back up and running and that they could only depend on themselves to get that done. The government was not worried about making sure everyone was employed again and if everyone’s family was feed at that time. The most they wanted to do was collect the funds and any profit that they needed and continue on. This workers revolution is so significant because of the perseverance the people had to sustain in order to get the businesses back rolling. They went months and...

...The British taxing the colonist following the end of the French and Indian war convinced Americans that the English constitution was corrupt. Many things led to the colonist to believe they were underneath the rule of a Robinarch, King Gorge III. Colonist believed they were being watched and taxed for things they did not need to be. Especially, since they were being taxed without representation. The colonist also felt as if they never received the assistance needed during the French and Indian wars making them very resentful. King George III did many things to make colonist believe that he was a Robinarch. George showed all symptoms of being a Robinarch. He fought expensive wars to keep people afraid and under control. King George III fought a series of unnecessary wars such as King William’s War, Queen Anne’s War, King George’s War, and the French and Indian War (The Colonial Wars), Assesses high taxes without popular consent to pay for these wars such as the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp Act, and Townshend duties. Americans didn’t like the idea of taxation without representation. Stephen Hopkins wrote a pamphlet to protest to the British government because he strongly believed that the colonies should not be taxed without representation. The next thing King George III did to make Americans believe he was a Robinarch was Promote worthless men to high public post. For example promoting Thomas Hutchinson, he was completely worthless to most Americans. During this time the colonies...

Zuckerberg's last public appearance was when he rang the Nasdaq opening bell the day the shares went public. But apart from a wedding picture posted over the weekend, the Facebook chief has been missing in action. In the five days since the company went public, investors have filed lawsuits against the social networking giant over the deal which was fumbled by its major underwriters and complicated by technical problems at the Nasdaq stock exchange. The lawsuits filed were reportedly over claims that profit warnings were "selectively shared" before the company went public last week. ...04_07_WH_CASEYROACH “Slave Driver” - Bob Marley 1. What emotions do you feel while listening to this song? The song made me feel sad that people had to put up with this. But, it also made me glad that slavery was done away with. 2. What other experiences or events does this song make you think about? It makes me think about the slaves that were used back in 1800’s in this country. Slavery was an issue for a long time in many countries until the late 1800’s. 3. What story do the lyrics tell? The lyrics tell the a brief story of the slaves that were transported by ship and the cruelty they had to put up with. Also refers to how black people, although not slaves, are still trapped in a not good world due to being poor and uneducated. 4. What is the message that the artist is trying to convey in this song? I think Bob Marley was trying to point out the wrong things that were done in the past and present. And that the world would be better if everyone enjoyed peace and equal rights. 5. Are there any lyrics in the song that you did not understand or know what they meant? Which? Yes, I did not know what the line, “It’s only a machine that makes money” meant. I was not sure if this meant that only machinery makes money or if the running of slavery was the moneymaker. 6. Why is the message of this song still valid today? Even though slavery doesn’t exist today, it still kind of does. There are many people, black and white, that are...

...Life of Galileo- from the perspective of Science, Technology and Society The intertwining of Science and society complies with the double-helical DNA structure which defines the complexity and simplicity of the relation between them. Where scientific discoveries set the path for paradigm shifts and drastic changes in which the society functions, they also raise questions to the existing norms of the society during the inception of these theories. The centuries-long debate of Science being the basis of societal formation or societal needs leading to genesis of new ways of living has not found an answer yet. While some discoveries conform to the existing belief system of the world, some developments cause major uproar and leave a mark on the timeline of evolution setting a before and after of human existence. It is these discoveries which brush the dust off the antediluvian school of thought and bring about paradigm shifts in the system with a fresh way of thinking and living. Life of Galileo by Bertolt Bretch is a play which describes a similar situation and revolves around the time when Galileo popped the idea of a heliocentric universe to the world causing widespread uproar. Galileo was a man of realistic thoughts who believed logic runs the world. While explaining the Copernican theory to his house boy, Andrea, Galileo encourages him to breathe logic and not comply with the existing beliefs that are prevalent in the society. Mrs. Sarti, his house maid, discourages Galileo...

...Factor Analysis - SPSS( [pic] • First Read Principal Components Analysis. The methods we have employed so far attempt to repackage all of the variance in the p variables into principal components. We may wish to restrict our analysis to variance that is common among variables. That is, when repackaging the variables’ variance we may wish not to redistribute variance that is unique to any one variable. This is Common Factor Analysis. A common factor is an abstraction, a hypothetical dimension that affects at least two of the variables. We assume that there is also one unique factor for each variable, a factor that affects that variable but does not affect any other variables. We assume that the p unique factors are uncorrelated with one another and with the common factors. It is the variance due to these unique factors that we shall exclude from our FA. Iterated Principal Factors Analysis The most common sort of FA is principal axis FA, also known as principal factor analysis. This analysis proceeds very much like that for a PCA. We eliminate the variance due to unique factors by replacing the 1’s on the main diagonal of the correlation matrix with estimates of the variables’ communalities. Recall that a variable’s communality, its SSL across components or factors, is the amount of the variable’s variance that is accounted for by the components or factors. Since our factors will be common factors, a variable’s communality will be the amount of its variance...

...The French revolution had such a different outcome than the American revolution due to the lack of unification after revolting. The French tried to totally separate from the church, causing some more extreme measures for a revolution. This in turn caused a rift between the people in France, spurring multiple revolutions. No one government could maintain power for long. French leaders throughout the revolutions never established a form of government to prevent one group from gaining too much power. The fact that they could not unite after any revolution is why none of them worked, and why France had a different outcome than America. One problem with the French revolutions was that they wanted to be totally separated from the church. The revolution...

...The Haitian Revolution and the Revolution of 1848 The Haitian Revolution and the Revolution of 1848 involve two distinct regions of the world. Despite the overlap of colonization linking the regions together, they hold different motivations for starting the revolution. The major similarities can be found in the economic setting of the locations. There are also some similarities in what happens after the revolutionary dust settles. The Haitian Revolution is arguably more influential due to the reinforcement of human rights and the establishment of the black run government. There is no doubt that the Haitian Revolution set an example for universal rights established during the Enlightenment. The setting of both revolutions occurs in a highly agricultural society. In Haiti, slave labor was churning out sugar and coffee...

...Why and What Do We Compare? The Story of Revolution and Democratization Mehrzad Boroujerdi, Syracuse University Introduction The field of comparative politics starts with the assumption that knowledge in the social sciences must proceed by way of the search for comparisons, or what has been called "suggestive contrasts." Scholars of comparative politics compare in order to discover similarities and explain differences. As infrequent and highly complex events, revolutions have attracted a great deal of attention from comparativists. In this article, we will address the following topics: • The Concept of Revolution • Why Revolutions Happen? • Can Revolutions be Predicted? • What Do Revolutions Accomplish? • What Are some of the Failures of Revolutions? • Comparing Characteristics and Outcomes of Some Revolutions • Questions The Concept of Revolution: According to the American philosopher Richard Rorty "revolution," like such other words as "reason," "democracy," and "socialism" is a "thick word" which can be contrasted with such "thin words" as truth, dialogue, and justice. How do we define a "revolution?" How are revolutions distinct from other forms of political change such as Coup d'état, rebellion, mutiny, insurrection, or uprising? All of the above nouns may denote acts of violence aimed at changing or overthrowing an existing order or authority. However, there are important legal and political differences among them as well. ...
