[pic]The King of Hearts –
What is the world, O soldiers?
It is I:
I, this incessant snow,
This northern sky;
Soldiers, this solitude
Through which we go
Is I. – W. De La Mare, Napoleon

The point of reference for a lost world is ‘I’. When the forbidden fruit was eaten ‘I’ was born, and ‘I’ characterises the world we live in today. In attempt to deify himself, man defaced himself and has been seeking his lost image ever since. When we gaze into still waters we see the reflection of our face, yet when we gaze into our hearts we see the reflection of our soul and in a haste we look away for its condition is too deplorable to bear. The malignant state of our hearts requires serious surgery, surgery which can only be carried out by the One who is called the kardiognostes, the Knower of hearts, and the One who has paid the price to rule man from within, the King of hearts.

The point of reference for a repentant heart is God. At the cross is ‘I’ crossed out. At the cross selflessness replaces selfishness, and love is demonstrated in its fullness from a loving God to a lost world. Faceless man again finds his image ‘For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ’(1). Gazing into our hearts once more we see the face of Christ, the perfection of the law that is love, and instead of turning away in haste we ‘Fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross’(2). We no longer walk away from the mirror and quickly forget our reflection, but we instead stare intently into the perfect law, that is Christ, and in obedience learn to become both hearers and doers of His word(3).

God wants nothing more from us than that which He has given us and when all else is removed, all we really possess in this life is our heart. When the Prodigal Son returned to his father, he came back empty handed, and broken hearted, repentant and desiring to be a servant in a household in which he was once highly esteemed(4). In the same way we are to return to the King of hearts, with a broken and contrite heart – which the Lord will not despise(5) – humbly longing to serve Him wholeheartedly. In doing so we discover that the One who we long to serve has not called us His servant, but has instead called us His friend.

Someone has said that each heart contains a cross and throne. If you put yourself on the throne, then Christ will remain on the cross; in order for Christ to sit on the throne you must put yourself on the cross. ‘I’ must die, the bitter cup we are to drink of requires us to die to self. We must say with Paul “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me”(6). The King of hearts, is the name rightfully given to the One who gave his life up for you and me. He now waits at the door of our hearts and knocks not only with His hand, but with His voice, and once the decision is made to open up our hearts to Him, He has said “If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”(7)

Brave Heart and King Speech Movie Comparission

...Brave Heart and Kings Speech, might be centuries apart but for me are the most historic and state mental movies ever produced. The characters have all done justice to their roles; the storyline is a tremendous piece of art that cannot be replaced by any other movie. Both have their own stands and relate to situations in different times and conditions. The two have many common grounds and share themes that are portrayed in different scenes through different perspectives. The movies mostly revolve around the idea of standing up for oneself and not giving up, whoever the enemy might be. Patriotism is portrayed in Brave Heart when Mel Gibson's character William Wallas refers to the cavilary as "sons of Scotland." They agree to fight against an army almost double in size, armor and men. This battle is won. In Kings Speech the King, is coping with a stammer to deliver a speech which is his first wartime radio broadcast on Britain's declaration of war on Germany. The struggle required to overcome the fear of stammering and of rejection is calmed down by the support of his friends and family. In Brave Heart love is a key theme, the movie beautifully portrays that intense love can make you go lengths you never wanted to go, change decisions like William decides to fight and rebel once his love, wife is killed for abstaining the soldiers from raping her. He starts a revolt against the most powerful men and dies trying. Love, an emotion that can help you through any stage of life...

Martin Luther King Jr Strength To Love

...Strength to Love is an insightful book that provides a depth of understanding in regards to human issues. Martin Luther King Jr. eloquently articulates that the primary hindrances to mankind’s disagreements occur due to a lack of forgiveness, which propels hate and evil, and a blindness of humanity in comparison to the perceived badness of humanity. In order to eliminate the prominence of hate and evil, King argues that Christians must maintain a tough mind and a tender heart while understanding the idea that God is able. King develops this idea through the discussed social and global issues of segregation, slavery through colonialism and the prevalence of communism. Perhaps the most obvious social issue that Martin Luther King Jr. ever addressed was segregation, particularly the segregation of the black man in a white America. King demonstrates that the role of the persecuted man, woman, and child is not to retaliate in kind. A tough mind allows the persecuted individual to deal with the persecution, yet the tender heart promotes reconciliation between individuals and groups through love. As his wife eloquently articulates in the foreword, “Someone must have sense enough and morality enough to cut off the chain of hate. This can only be done by projecting the ethic of love to the center of our lives” (King 9). This idea...

During the Time of Samuel, Why Did the People of Israel Desire a King?

...Essay 2 During the time of the judges, the land was full of corruption and sin. There was no king or legal authority in Israel and the people acted on what they thought was right and wrong. “In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). Samuel was Israel’s spiritual leader (priest), a prophet, and the last and most effective of the judges. God used Samuel to assist in the change of Israel’s government from a system of judges to kings. Samuel judged Israel until his death, saved them from the Philistines, and led them back to God. However, when Samuel grew old, he started appointing his sons as judges but they were corrupt (1 Samuel 8:1). All of the elders of Israel got together and concluded that a change in government was necessary so they went to Samuel and demanded a king. The people of Israel desired a king for several reasons: 1) Samuel was old and his sons were not fit to lead; 2) They hoped that having a king would unite the 12 tribes into one nation and one army because each tribe had their own leader and their own territory; and 3) The people wanted to be like the other nations (1 Samuel 8:4-5). Samuel was disappointed at the people’s request for a king because it showed that they rejected God as their leader and that they rejected him as their judge. God told Samuel, “Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected...

The Bait of Satan Book Report

...does something against our sense of justice, then We feel we are owed something as a result. Something good happens to someone else, and we feel the need to justify ourselves, perhaps finding something good that we’ve done or experienced as well, completely missing the opportunity to rejoice with our friend. Someone overlooks something you did, and you feel you deserve recognition. It is important to recognize that offense can be either real or perceived, but either way it is just as powerful in its hold upon our hearts. In The Bait Of Satan John Bevere makes its clear that we must recognize is that offense is always a choice. In the same way that two people can be in the same situation, and one feels humiliated and the other doesn’t notice. Offense is also an inward reaction to outward events. It is a decision of the heart. That means that it is never beyond our control. The first principle I chose was gold being refined. Many people today do not see their true heart condition. They are cloaked in pride. Pride is how the enemy keeps people from seeing their condition. Most...

Bibl 105 Short Essay 2

...God transitioned His covenanted nation away from the failing theocratic administration under the tribal judges toward the theocratic administration of the united monarchy; thus the era of the reign of kings were born (Hinson and Yates 2012:162). Samuel the righteous judge of Israel is raised up to serve during a time when the nation was declining both morally and politically. The priesthood was corrupt and the hearts of the people were far from God. The Philistine oppression was great and had wrought a great slaughter among them. It was Samuel whom God used to ultimately usher the nation back to Him. “So the Israelites put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only. Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah and I will pray to the Lord for you. So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there, we have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.” (1 Sam 7:4-6 AMP). Now as Samuel began to age, he appointed his two sons as judges over Israel, but they did not possess the righteousness of Samuel. They were wicked in their dealings, were out for gain, took bribes and perverted justice. The elders of the Israel brought this to Samuels’s attention, and then asked for a king to rule over them, like all of the other nations. Although there was truth to the wickedness of the sons of Samuel, the real motive behind Israel’s request was driven by their own wickedness to be like...

...Survey pp. 164 that Israel pressed to have a king like all the other nations. Samuel was at this time beginning to fade out and there really was no one to replace him. So the kingship was a choice of the people, even more then God choice. Our true core vanity will always lead us in the wrong direction. It seems to me that this plays over and over in history that man will at some point give in to himself. The nation of Israel now past the state of oppression because the disobedience of the people. The failure to have right men to judge on things gave way to rebellious ways. Seems the necessity for a ruler was very strong in their minds. The bible says that Saul was a man that came from level of power from the tribe of Benjamin. Saul was considered to be a choice young man, 1 Samuel 9:2 says, “There was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person then him; from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.” Now I find myself a little turn around here. Did they mean having great reverence for God; pious. That would say he was godlier right? So because he was of good substantial size, of good or fine appearance. I have a good pal of mine like that, but he is as wise as a stone. (Smile) Saul made really bad choices as king going so far as to step in and act as a priest to offer sacrifices.
