Up to this day, poetry is still one of the greatest forms of artistic expression; Poems speak to emotions and capture feelings. There is no right format of a poem, but yet a world of possibilities. Instead being unchangeable poems are innately open to interpretation, they should be spoken out loud in order to be “heard”, convey truth and cause impact. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot is an extremely meaningful poem; it is one of Elliot’s best-known works and without a doubt a masterpiece (Hillis). T.S. Eliot introduces the poem with a quote from Dante's Inferno (XXVII.61-66), and with that sparks our curiosity. He then makes statements and questions that perhaps everyone has done, or will do at some point in life. The poem is a legitimate work of the modernist movement, the language used is contemporary; the verses are free and the rhythm flows naturally. All of the elements in the poem are in harmony and work together in order to set the tone making up a unique poetic style. “Let us go then, you and I, when the evening is spread out against the sky”. It begs to question whether an individual’s personal experiences or innate genetic attributes are the primary basis for an individual’s behavioral traits. Both sides of the argument provide strong evidence to support their claims, but to say experiences in life don’t influence a person’s behavior is a bit of a stretch. One can’t say that a high school student, or at least the vast majority, doesn’t let their peers’ actions and opinions play some role in their perception of how to act according to the social “norm”. Fear of being considered an outsider and social stigmatization drives many people to evaluate, and reevaluate every decision they consider. Often times we let these fears overwhelm us and inhibit any further progression beyond fantasizing how the scenario would play out. Even though there are a vast number of social dynamics that influence an individual’s actions and perception, we must recognize that these interactions are a part of a social structure that can be challenged, if we dare to explore the unknown. In “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”, T.S. Eliot uses a dramatic monologue to address and illustrate many common issues revolving around social perceptions. Introduction This paper explores certain legal acts and omissions that facilitated the over-leveraging and near collapse of the global financial system. These ―Legal Enablers‖ fostered the boom that enriched a class of financial intermediaries who followed a storied tradition of gambling away ―other people‘s money.‖2 These mechanisms also made the pain of the bust disproportionately felt by the middle class and poor while shielding the middlemen who created the problems. These legal Enablers permitted the growth of a shadow banking system, without investment limits, transparency or government oversight. In the shadows grew a variety of highly leveraged private investment pools, undercapitalized conduits of securitized loans and speculation in complex credit derivatives. The rationale for allowing this unregulated, parallel system was that it helped to create innovation and provide liquidity. The conventional wisdom was that any risks associated with a hands-off approach could be managed by the ―invisible hand‖3 of the market.
