...using up class time. I didn’t have a clue as to how this related to this class at all. It was only when I watched it for the second time, still skeptical, that I had a true flash of brilliance. It was all there in front of me; I realized that this film has a deeper meaning than most other films that I have watched over the course of my 19-year life. I think the most meaningful thing that this film taught me was that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. I wanted to know though how much you are really limited by perspective. Seeing the various scenes of the conditions the poor of Letcher County were living in you would think that it should be a violation of human rights, but you...

...Case Study Movie Exhibition Industry - Research Papers - Kimsaline 10/9/12 2:01 AM Case Study Movie Exhibition Industry Strategic Analysis of Movie Exhibition Industry By: Kim Saline February 24, 2010 Objective: To provide an analysis and make recommendations to increase revenue in the movie exhibition industry. Overview: Ticket sales for movie theaters are at their lowest point since 1996. With the core demographic group expected to grow slower than the US population and with technological advances growing at speeds faster than the industry can keep up, ticket sales will continue to decline if the current business strategy continues to be followed. Concession sales and ticket sales are the two biggest sources of revenue for a movie theater. Both continue to increase in cost to the consumers and may have reached a price point that is starting to drive consumers away from going to see a movie. With the advancements in home entertainment systems consumers are investing thousands of dollars into their own home viewing systems. They have several options to stream video content into the comfort of their own homes. Theaters have implemented digital content and 3D but it’s not enough to keep up with the competition of technology. My analysis will give you information on the threat of competition from substitutes and the change in buyer behavior and demographics. I will use the five-forces model of competition and a SWOT analysis along with other sources of analysis. The information...

...Margaret Lazarus’ essay “All’s Not Well in the Land of the Lion King” details her opinion of the classic Disney movie. She states how she believes the movie is racist, sexist, and anti-gay. While it’s not difficult to see where she’s coming from, most of her points are far-fetched at best. The first major point Lazarus tries to make in the essay is that The Lion King is racist. She came about his idea with the hyenas living in the not so privileged area and the accent they have. She states that one of the characters has a Whoopi Goldberg accent. The essay that was wrote made it sound like it was a little extreme. After watching the movie with a better understanding. Many of the ideas that were discussed made sense. She gives many example to back up her ideas and some, but not all, made sense. While thinking about it, it is hard to believe that a Disney movie would have such a meaning. While watching the movie, it was easy to see where her ideas come from. When Scar and Mufasa were together...

...Zombieland to be produced by the development of video games, clothing lines, make-up designs, and adrenaline rush in horror films in our generation. From George Romero’s (1968) film, Night of the Living Dead zombie movie to present day zombie movie, Ruben Fleischer (2009) film, Zombieland, zombie movies have become very popular because people want to experience a zombie apocalypse. The success of this film delivers entertainment, interests, and desires for the people that are big fans of zombies with survival guidelines throughout the movie on how to survive a zombie apocalypse. Balaji, Murali. Thinking Dead: What the Zombie Apocalypse Means. Lanham: Lexington Books, 2013. Print. This book discusses how over time zombies have become popular to American culture. Zombies became so popular that it “has a way of seizing upon our anxieties and apprehensions and delivering content that reflects these fears while still entertaining us” (17). Present day America calls the entertainment of a film, adrenaline. In this case “the time is ripe for the rebirth of zombie culture” (17), to deliver the adrenaline to all audience, especially the younger generation. The facts from this book will be useful to my essay since it describes the adrenaline they deliver to the audience to be entertained and who they target their entertainment on, the younger generation. ...reader seen the movie Dumb and Dumber? If so, this essay is going to sound familiar to the film. If the reader have not seen that movie I strongly suggest taking a quick view of the film to understand what I am going to be explaining and because it is one of the funniest movies of all time. In this essay, I plan to explain proxemics, non-verbal behavior, and influences that shape non-verbal behavior related to the film Dumb and Dumber. Even more, I would like my readers to have a better understanding of these three topics after reading this paper. To begin, proxemics is the study of the way people and animals use space (Adler). In the film Dumb and Dumber, there is a scene where Harry and Lloyd are discussing Freda Feltcher, a girl they both knew from high school, in a hot tub inside of a hotel room. Not to mention the hot tub is in the shape of a heart, not a regular hot tub. This is a great example of intimate distance....

...Ethical movie review Title: Blood Diamond Year: 2006 Studio: Virtual Studios Producer: Warner Bros. Director: Edward Zwick Country: United States of America 0.1 Introduction The following essay will examine ethical issues addressed through the movie “Blood Diamond”. The two main issues identified and discussed are; child soldiers and conflict diamonds. My main lens of ethical theories will consist of the four western theories, this includes, egoism, utilitarianism, ethics of duties and ethics of rights. Even though these theories are based on ethical absolutism, I will still try to apply a pluralistic view. Additionally, some of these theories will be expanded and other theories that do not tend so much towards ethical absolutism will be added. The following section will concentrate more on how these issues occurred and try to give some potential answer to the problems. In order to do so descriptive ethical theories will be tools in the examination. Finally the conclusion will be presented by a combination of a film review and a short summary of the findings in the text. 1.1 Children with guns The first of the two ethical issues that will be examined is the use of kids as soldiers. In order to do so I believe I have to take a subjective role on the subject, looking from a rebel soldier. The reasons for this is because I believe objective or western views on this topic will in the end state that this is neither moral or ethical. In order to get a more interesting...

...Jordan Brown Doctor Kuhio-Vogeler Political Science 110 31, October 2012 Essay #2 In the first essay I severely overthought the four basic concepts used to analysis the myths of breadfruit. I, hope to, have gained much more of a grasp of the ideas used to write a simple essay breaking down the movie posters using context, form, content, and function. The most important part is the thesis though, and that was relatively simple. The political significance of these movie posters is the name. A large number of people do not watch the political debates, or the news, or try and keep up with the presidential election, so seeing a bumper sticker with “Romney/Ryan 2012” could be the sole factor of swaying an undecided voter. The context of the “Expendables 2” poster seems to be pretty straightforward to me, the majority of the characters from the first movie are back to act in the second, but in this one there are new additions to the lineup. Those additions include guys like Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme, whom we do not know if there are good guys or the scum of the earth to be eventually destroyed by the aging action heroes. The time period is not obviously displayed on the poster but from previous knowledge of the movie franchise one can assume that the time period is still the present, as it was in the original movie. The context of the second movie poster is much different than the first. We have a very stoic looking Daniel Day Lewis occupying the majority...

...RQ#5 Considering the classic and unique role of Vertov's works, the two articles analyze those works in a similar pattern by discussing everything from the social contexts to aesthetics of movie itself. But they focus on slightly different standpoints. It seems that Feldman's essay focuses more on the aesthetic part while Petric's essay focuses more on the political influence on Vertov's works. As Feldman essay's title indicates, the major topic of his essay is to explore Vertov's formalism, which gradually leads to shape his value on film production and essence of movies. Vertov did not regard films simply as recordings, or a collection of traces (which actually contradicts to my former understanding of documentary films), and he, as...

...As I sat watching “Finding Forrester,” I found myself vacillating between contradictory thoughts and feelings. I felt that I was not supposed to enjoy or appreciate the movie because I have trained myself to question sincerity of a movie about Black life, directed and produced by a very famous White male actor, and in this case one who also plays the leading role in the movie. I am automatically suspicious and, perhaps, offended by a movie in which a White person mentors a Black person. Because of the historical relationship between Blacks and Whites, I programmatically expect to see a movie in which James Earl Jones or Whoopi Goldberg mentor a young White child or adolescent. Despite these thoughts, I found myself totally engaged in the...

As I look to my left, you see my beautiful blonde light girl working my light board. While the music is playing really loud, she will hit certain buttons that will make multi-colored lasers go in different directions and make many different shapes. Also, while the music is jamming, a common light known by many people as a strobe light will flash non-stop constantly. This light makes you see people dancing like robots and distorts the vision of that person Behind me sits all my records on a dark colored, sturdy wooden shelf. This shelf contains about six hundred records of all types of music. Some of the records are old and beat up and they look like they are from the sixties. The newer records are mainly imported from Chemical Records, which is located in Europe. Most of these newer records barely have any English written on them. So to...

...Caleb Crawford Psychology Period 6 Dream Essay A dream is a period of spontaneous brain activity usually lasting from about 5-40 minutes that occurs during sleep several times a night usually about 90 minute intervals dreams allow a person to take a closer look into his their mind and themselves sometimes dreams act as a way to discover yourself, dreams can be used to solve all different types of problems. There are also certain types of dreams. There are fantasy, daydream and waking dreams. There are also lucid dreams, nightmares and night terrors. There are also certain stages in the dream cycle. In the first stage, your body temperature drops, your eyes close and your brain waves begin regular alpha rhythms, indicating a relaxed state. In many of my dreams, what happen in my dreams would happen the next day or within the following days. I think the reason for this is because when I would wake up and remember my dreams threw out that day I would be thinking about those dreams I had, had so the more I thought about it the more I would want to make those dreams come true. Like for example Tuesday night I had dreamed about a project I had due the next day in English and my dream was me presenting my PowerPoint and in my dream I had done very good on my essay. We were suppose to present for 5 minutes and I did like 6 minutes and I answered all the questions that my classmates had and I did very good on the whole project in my dream. So when it came time to present my project...

...Janet Salguero Aaron Hillyard Writing 121 Video Essay 13, March, 2014 Essay # 2– “Any Given Sunday” Football has always been one of America’s favorite past time sport, a sport that has been around for 145 years and a game that is a religion to some individuals. “No guts, No Glory!” I remember my high school couch always scream out into the stands and the team cheering that same chant into the battle field. Football is a very intense and dangerous sport that young men play to hold the glorious title of “Winner,” seizing the opportunity to show off all their incredible football skills. In the movie, “Any Given Sunday” there is a famous scene were Al Pacino the head couch, gives a common but important inspirational speech to get his team all riled up and ready for battle. Giving the opposing team a run for their money and fight for every last inch they need to get to be victorious in the game. In every great sports movie there is always that locker room scene that gets the team pumped up for the win or lose game, with inspirational heart pumping background music. Making you feel like you are right there in the locker room, living in the moment and thinking it’s all or nothing at that very instance. The head coach reaching into each individual player’s soul and heart giving them that push to leave everything on that field to give everything they have, like it was a life or death situation. How many times have you seen that famous locker room scene and how does it make...

...the essay, “Movies and History” written by academic historian, Eric Foner and independent filmmaker John Sayles and the essay “Confessions of a Talk Show Shrink” by Steven Fischoff who is a clinical psychologist, there is no direct relation when first looked upon. However, further analysis reveals similar concepts between the two very different stories. Manipulation is a concept that is used in each of these stories. To manipulate is to control or influence (a person or situation) cleverly or unfairly. Foner states, “Let’s just take a poll, see what moviegoers want to see, and then make it for them” (143). Sayles responds, “If historical accuracy were the thing people went to the movies for, historians would be the vice presidents of the studios” (Foner and Styles 143). This comment indicates that while many movies are constructed from true stories or history, they can include a significant amount of fiction as well. In the same manner, while referring to a couple who appeared on a talk show, Fischoff says, “She had just ripped him apart on stage but now was all warm and cuddly. . . for the moment” (124). This couple had just put on a show for the audience. Giving something that would grasp their attention and keep them entertained. Being completely truthful does not appear to be the focus of producers. Misleading the audience is a common thing that happens in the movie industry and the television industry. Another mutual concept depicted in these essays is...
