Many people assume that wildfire is only negative and there are no positive effects of fire (Fire and Emergency Service Image Task Force 2013). The perception of forest wildfire has a negative connotation which results from the media and myths surrounding the increasing frequency and severity of fire (Fire and Emergency Service Image Task Force 2013). Many people are not aware of how fire is beneficial and why it is necessary for a healthy forest.
Due to the long periods of fire suppression, regular fires that maintained a healthy system have transformed into irregular fires that completely change the ecosystem. Forests are suffering now more than they were before, due to the image that fire is only a bad thing and every fire needs to be put

Leo Chavez's Latino Threat Narrative

...MS-13, short for Mara Salvatrucha, is a criminal organization that operates in at least forty-two states and has about 6,000-10,000 members nationwide (The MS-13 Threat: A National Assessment ). This infamous gang – primarily made up of Salvadorans, Hondurans, Guatemalans, and other Central/South American immigrants – has ignited terror and havoc in communities throughout the United States by committing heinous crimes, such as drug distribution, murder, rape, home invasions, immigration offenses and many more. The notoriety of MS-13 and the level of violence that has ensured has captured the nation’s attention, as well as the president himself to which he has branded these gang members as “animals.” CNN and The New York Times have commented on the situation: CNN explaining Trump’s attempts to rid the nation of MS-13 members, while The New York Times described how Trump has exaggerated false claims regarding MS-13 deportation numbers. This current spectacle relates to Leo Chavez’s Latino Threat Narrative in the sense that the gang and criminal activity demonstrated by MS-13 is being associated with any person who crosses the border, and the immigration and deportation measures being taken is negatively affecting those entering the United States with good intentions....

The Use of Corrective Feedback

...Term PaperThe use of Corrective Feedback Table of contents 1. Introduction 2. Literature review 3. Discussion 4. Conclusion 5. Works Cited 6. Declaration of Authorship 1 2-4 5-6 7 8-9 10 1. Introduction One of the latest trends in the Science, Language, and Literacy (SLL) approaches is called Task-based language teaching. This second language education trend influences not only teaching but also learning processes. TBLT tries to focus on the use of authentic language with the help of meaningful tasks such as ordering something or asking for instructions. This kind of method encourages meaningful communication and is student-centered. (Bilash 2009). One of the most important characteristics of TBLT is that learners are engaged in real language use in the classroom, using language in real life situations. The designed tasks that include problems, games, discussions and so on make learners use the language for themselves. (Willis 2007). Another important aspect of TBLT is that the student plays a central role in this teaching method. With this way the student has to interact more and organize his learning process almost individually. Furthermore TBLT helps students become more creative, spontaneous and have fun via tasks and problem solving. TBLT is a new method of language teaching and cannot be easily used by all teachers without proper training and teaching experience. In this research paper I will report the usefulness of Corrective Feedback considering language teaching...

Lavender Scare Summary

...Cold War presidential politics. This fear led to select government committees being tasked with the discovery and termination of gay employees from the late 1940s to the 1960s. During the Cold War, McCarthy and Truman built on Roosevelt’s wartime governmental loyalty programs and politically intertwined communism and homosexuality. The rise of American nationalism, and the fear of foreign agents infiltrating America led to Eisenhower’s Executive Order 10450, which expanded upon previous legal precedent and officially declared homosexuals to be security risks, banning them from federal employment. This purge, known as the “Lavender Scare,” was a turning point in the treatment and acceptance of the queer community, as it cemented public perception of the community as a threat and created an association between anti-American values and homosexuality. The Rising Threat World War I codified general punishments and dishonorable discharges for homosexual soldiers, which created legal precedent for the persecution of gay men in militaristic roles. Furthermore, the use of “Blue Tickets,” blue-tinted discharge papers, during World War II to expel soldiers with “undesirable habits and traits of character,” formalized the disqualification of homosexuals from duty. That distinction further developed the concept of homosexuality as not solely a behavior but a distinct group of people. The 1940s screenings of soldiers implemented by President Roosevelt allowed the military to bolster its influence...

Irrational Side of Change Mgt

...The irrational side of change management 101 Organization Practice The irrational side of change management Most change programs fail, but the odds of success can be greatly improved by taking into account these counterintuitive insights about how employees interpret their environment and choose to act. Carolyn Aiken and Scott Keller In 1996, John Kotter published Leading Change. Considered by many to be the seminal work in the field of change management, Kotter’s research revealed that only 30 percent of change programs succeed. Since the book’s release, literally thousands of books and journal articles have been published on the topic, and courses dedicated to managing change are now part of many major MBA programs. Yet in 2008, a McKinsey survey of 3,199 executives around the world found, as Kotter did, that only one transformation in three succeeds. Other studies over the past ten years reveal remarkably similar results. It seems that, despite prolific output, the field of change management hasn’t led to more successful change programs. It also hasn’t helped that most academics and practitioners now agree on the building blocks for influencing employee attitudes and management behavior. McKinsey’s Emily Lawson and Colin Price provided a holistic perspective in “The psychology of change management,”1 which suggests that four basic conditions are necessary before employees will change their behavior: a) a compelling story, because employees must see the point...

BEST PRACTICE Why It’s So Hard to Be Fair by Joel Brockner COPYRIGHT © 2006 HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL PUBLISHING CORPORATION. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. When Company A had to downsize, it spent considerable amounts of money providing a safety net for its laid-off workers. The severance package consisted of many weeks of pay, extensive outplacement counseling, and the continuation of health insurance for up to one year. But senior managers never explained to their staff why these layoffs were necessary or how they chose which jobs to eliminate. What’s more, the midlevel line managers who delivered the news to terminated employees did so awkwardly, mumbling a few perfunctory words about “not wanting to do this” and then handing them off to the human resources department. Even the people who kept their jobs were less...
