4.0 THE CHALLENGES CURRENTLY FACING BY THIS ESTABLISHMENT

Sado men spa face lots of challenges during its establishment on November 2014. They can be consider as a pioneer in men spa because of its concept that been introduce to a new market. Actually there is lots of men spa but sado men spa has their own uniqueness so that lead to acknowledgement of people as a pioneer of a good men spa in Malaysia and operated by men only. Here are the challenges faces by sado men spa before its establishment.
Before they manage to establish sado men spa, first thing they face are on how to put a brand name that show manliness. So by using that brand name people will instantly know it is specifically for men only. It is quite hard for the owners to figure out something that will attract people to go to their spas. Second problems face by sado men spa are marketing, they try to find a way on how to promote their spas throughout Malaysia and neighbor country such as Thailand, Brunei and Indonesia. Beside that they also try to promote product that made by them such as slimming product and men wash.
The third challenge faces by sado men spa are community perception; perception is the most difficult to overcome by the owners. When some beauty places are create specifically for men first perception of the people is they will think it is for gay because generally men who are concern about their beauty are soft and act more to women. They have to eliminate all the negative perception towards their business. Fourth are they tried to establish a strong networking between customers and media. It will help in expansion of their business in long term.
The last one is capital, capital is crucial in starting a business. Sado men spa faces this problem when they have come out with an idea but lack of capital in starting the business. The capital will be used to rent a shop, buy beauty product and spas equipment. To start a spa business a person need a capital at least need RM150k to start perfectly. So they try solving the problem efficiently and finishing what they have started.

4.1 Ways To Cope With The Situation
After facing few rough weeks they come out with a solution that can help them to establish the spa instantly and maintaining them all year around. Some of the solution and advice they get from their woman friend who already establish a muslimah spa. First of all is about the brand name, they figure out the name when the owners want to go to the gym. They try to find a name that is really show manliness, and then they also on the way to the gym suddenly they think of sado word which means a tough man. That’s how they get the name of sado men spa when they achieve a mutual agreement between members. They word itself reflects a man personality that is not really available to woman.
Second is capital, after figure out a great brand name they try to gather capital to start open the business as soon as possible. Sado men spa was establish by two person who sharing a capital to solve their problem. After they gather enough capital they start to renovate the store phase by phase. This technique has help them to run a business quickly by setup a main lobby and few treatment room that can be fully operated, while other rooms are still under construction. The next challenges they face are perceptions. Perceptions are the most crucial thing in order to gain customers confident and avoid any negative image towards the spa. At the beginning of the spa people always thought it was a gay spa and also provide ‘happy ending’ service. Sado men overcome this problem by directly explain to the customer about their spa treatment when they ask something inappropriate. To change people perception throughout Malaysia, Sado men spa has several times expose themselves in newspaper and magazine to promote their spas and explain what is men spas to gain more confident. After expose themselves in magazine and newspaper few times it help to win people confident and change the negative perceptions. The owner has said that after gain the popularity their responsibilities to take good care the image of the spa are getting higher. From that situation people negative perception will be decrease drastically.
The last one is networking, networking is important in establishing a business and to gain more customers. To create more networking sado men spa provide an excellent service to the customers, when the service are excellent it will create a positive words of mouth and it will spread like wildfire. When the good news being spread, it instantly attract media to make coverage at the spa and after that it will attract people with special interest to join venture towards the business. In an instance they already create a big networking among the customers, business people and media.

5.0 THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE

In health and wellness business, it is usually conquered by women. Typically, spa centers cater the female market and it is quite difficult to find spa centers that cater to the male market. Mr Yusry claimed that, he is not worried because there will always be a demand for this from the male market, especially because of the availability of information. It is easy for them to look for something on the internet. As the outcome, people are becoming more interested to keep their health and body in good state. Apart than that, it has become something essential for people in particular those who are working. They need to take care of their hygiene, health and looks. These elements are important because they need to interact with other people. Some need to convince people to buy their product or even agree to their proposition. These elements are important because it effects of how the outcome would be. For example, good and well maintained person looks more reliable than those who are not. However, it appears that in this line of business the challenges are surprisingly great. Thus, it is important to ensure the sustainability of the business. Especially with the current condition of the economy which happens to be unstable. In an unstable economic condition, it affects ones decision making process. This is because their disposable income may decrease respectfully to the economic condition. Sado Men Spa states that they are well aware of this fact and that they have taken the appropriate measurements in ensuring the sustainability of the Sado Men Spa and as well as health and wellness centers as a whole generally.
There are many ways to sustain Mr Yusry business in the future. The first way that he use to sustain his business is by maintaining the service quality. Sado Men Spa really emphasizes on the service quality. Mr Yusry constantly monitors and supervises his staff. In addition, he reminds his staff to deliver their service with courtesy and sincerity on daily basis. This is one way to ensure customers satisfaction and as well as to gain customers loyalty. In the service line, because it is tangible service providers’ deliverance is vital to define them. Happy and satisfied customers usually brings in more business. This is because, when you meet your customer expectation and they are happy with the service encountered, they have the tendency to go back and spread the words of mouth about the service they have encountered and satisfied off.
Next is business expansion. Another way to sustain the business in the future is to expand the business capacity. Currently, Sado Men Spa had just launched its second branch in Taman Medan. They have the intention to open up their third branch in Putrajaya. By doing this, they are marketing and improving their brand image. More people will get to know of Sado Men Spa. However, proper plan and careful research are needed to avoid unnecessary consequences.
Besides business expansion, another ways to sustain his business in the future is by educate the society of the importance. Educate the society of the importance of health and wellness by doing constant awareness campaign. Maybe they can collaborate with other spa centers and governing bodies to held such event or talk to educate and increase their knowledge on this matter. This in return would increase the demand for such service. Thus, ensuring the sustainability of the business.
Lastly, the ways to sustain Mr Yusry’s business in the future is by asking feedback. Asking feedback from customer of the services deliverance could help in terms of improving the service quality. A set of possible solution could be prepared. Therefore, identified problems can be overcome and then improving the service quality.
In a nutshell, every company wants to grow their business, yet few know how to sustain it for the long-term or look beyond the next quarterly or yearly. Growing a business requires the right intellectual capital, carefully selected strategic partnerships, and products or services with strong marketplace demand. Beyond these essentials, sustaining growth requires a strong operational foundation to reduce the risks to the business over time.

6.0 MARKETING

Spa and Wellness industry is definitely a very challenging industry in Malaysia because of the existing challenges. Presumably, without a proper set of marketing strategy, it would be difficult to sustain. As for Sado Men Spa, it seems that they have quite a strong set of marketing strategy. According to Mr Yusry, location is not as important as it used to be when starting a business. The location for the second branch Sado Men Spa is quite isolated. He also claimed that, it is done on purpose. The choosing of the location is to provide a calm and welcoming environment. However, a strong set of marketing strategy is needed. Sado Men Spa uses this few tools to market itself

Marketing
Strategy

Newspaper

Direct marketing

Social
Media

The first marketing strategy that Sado Men Spa used is by newspaper. Sado Men Spa since its opening has drawn the attention of the people. As stated by Mr Yusry, due to its unique name, it has been featured in few newspapers such as Sinar Harian and Utusan Malaysia. This shows that, Sado Men Spa is reliable and legit. Negative perceptions that are commonly linked to spa centers are now can be countered off. Apart than that, it has boosted the sales volume of the spa. People are beginning to develop awareness of the importance of body maintenance. Hence, the availability of such spa to cater the demand for the male market is needed.
Besides that, social media is also one of the marketing strategy used. Nowadays, the ever growing trend of the social media to be as one of the platform people shares about almost everything. This is a wonderful opportunity for people to take advantage off. Mr Yusry said that most of his promotions and marketing are done through social media platform such as Facebook, Instagram, Blogspot, and as well as their own developed website. Through this platform, they are able to market their spa center to people. Sharing of information to raise awareness is now possible with the availability of the internet and these social media providers. In addition, when they provide information to create and raise awareness, this helps to spark the interest of people to try the service provided. Also, they can share their promotion from time to time.
Lastly, the marketing strategy used by Sado Men Spa is by friends and families. Sado Men Spa started with small marketing activities. As identified by Mr Yusry and his partner, friends and families are one of the strong marketing tools. He also added that, Sado Men Spa emphasize on service quality. They always deliver their service with courtesy and sincere so that the customers will always feel that the money they spent is worth the spent. This in return will produce customer loyalty and free marketing which has proven to be one of the best marketing tools, the power of mouth to mouth marketing. Customers will tell and suggest to their friends and families to try their service.

7.0 SWOT ANALYSIS

Starting a business has both its strong points and its risk. SWOT measures the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats involve in order to start and maintaining the business. Just like other spa, Sado Men Spa will have their own strengths, weaknesses, threats and also opportunity. Throughout the interview, the owner has stated their strong point and its risk.
There are many strength that existed for sado men spa. The main strength for this spa is it is said to be one on the first male spa established in Malaysia. Nowadays, as we can see men has already started to take care of their appearances, there is nothing weird about that. When the men spa existed in this market, it will make the men easier and feel more comfortable to experienced and feel the treatment provided. This is the advantage for this kind of spa because it will gives the men all privacy in the men spa. The next strength of sado men spa is in this market, not many other men spa that is establish. In other word, there are lower number in competitor, so majority of the men will come to sado men spa and they will generate more income. The owner also said, if one day there are many more men spa that has been establish, they will not feel threaten because of their uniqueness and better quality of treatment and therapy provided. Furthermore, the strength of this spa is they are confidence with their own product and also their spa. They get good feedback from the customer, says that their product and service are much better than the other spa they have been too. With the affordable price, the customer will become pleasant with the quality and also price offered. The customer will not run and will always come back to sado men spa if they maintain the quality.
As in any organization, Sado Men Spa also could not avoid with its weaknesses. There are many weaknesses listed by the owner of this spa. One of them are the society’s perception towards Sado Men Spa. As mention earlier, Sado Men Spa is a fully male spa, operated by a man and also run by men. Many people would assume that this spa is for gay people. And only gays will enter this spa. It is labelled that they provide negative service or gay service. This is not true at all, because nowadays men’s fashion and stylist is as important as the female. People need to be more open minded in order to accept the fact that there no wrong when a man goes to a man spa. it is actually a good thing to take care of their health and lifestyle. By people having this kind of perception towards Sado Men Spa, it would definitely ruin their image. The next weaknesses that Sado Men must face is the productivity of the employee. When there are too many employees, the owner cannot have an eye on them all the time. He could not keep them too maintain their services. This would lead to not very efficient work of the employees.
Besides weaknesses, Sado men spa would have their own opportunity for their business. The first opportunity that Sado Men Spa has is they receive many business purposes to joint venture with Sado Men Spa. This is a good start for Sado Men Spa because if they joint venture with this spa, they would get more publicity from the existing business or company, and can promote more to the people. The next opportunity is they planned to open up new branch at Putrajaya, Klang and also Johor. Most of this area is full with men that take care and are aware about the importance of spa treatment for their life and also when they are stress. This would create a lot more income for Sado Men Spa. The third opportunity is Malaysia is still lack of men spa. So when Sado Men Spa was establish, it is an advantage for them to earn much more customer from before and also in the future. Most customer would always choose to go to senior’s spa in order to get better quality of service.
Lastly, the major threat for Sado Men Spa is anonymous writer would create up stories and also give false negative feedback about this spa. As we have mentioned, nowadays the social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram can be a good and a bad thing in our life. People would easily trust any things that goes viral on the internet. Some of the competitors would create up story such as Sado Men Spa provide bad services and the treatment is not good. It would make they lose their customers and also no new customer would go and experience their spa. The second threat that would really give impact to Sado Men Spa is about their employee’s attitude. Working in a place where it fully interaction with men sometimes would make confusion to their employee. The owner says that, he could not guarantee that his employee are not gays. He is just afraid that one day, in any of his spa branch, one of his employee did not act professional at workplace and do negative things. If that thing happen that it would really ruin the whole spa’s image and also with nowadays technology, people would make it viral with just a few seconds. He hopes that all his employee could act professional when doing their job and would not affect their performance.

8.0 SUGGESTION AND RECOMMENDATION

There are many suggestion and recommendation for Sado Men Spa. The first recommendation is collaboration with the public sector to increase awareness. Sado Men Spa should collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism and other governing bodies to increase the society awareness of the importance of health and wellness. Moreover, this could be the next tourism product that could be offered to the foreign market. For example, Bali is one of the destinations that people go to get specific treatment or such. Maybe Malaysia could come up with our own identity to be grouped and package as a new tourism product. Besides that, the next recommendation is provide training for anyone interested to join the industry. One of their future planning and their vision is to develop an academy to train and create expertise in this line of business. As stated by My Yusry, he intends to develop the academy as a medium to produce skilled therapist. In addition, the creation of the academy is a way to overcome the problem of the availability of skilled therapist in the job employment list.

9.0 CONCLUSION

Upon completing this report, we acquired a valuable knowledge. Apart than just in class education, this kind of assignment really helps students to develop their soft skills and critical thinking. Although we have encountered a few challenges and obstacles, we managed to come up with a solution and overcome the problem as a team.
