The Nevado del Ruiz is an ice capped volcano located in the Central Cordillera (Andes Mountains) in Colombia. This is the highest of the five volcanic peaks in this zone that are resulted of the subduction of the Nazca Oceanic plate beneath South America Continental Plate. The Nevado del Ruiz is the causative of worst natural tragedy occurred in Colombia, known as the Armero tragedy, where more than 2300 people died due to the lahars initiated by the eruption of this volcano the night of November 13, 1985. In contrast, the Nevado del Ruiz has contributed as well in the formation of the landscape in its surrounding area.
