...“Butterfly Effect” What if you could go back in time and change the sequence of events leading up to the biggest mistake of your life? Most would automatically seize this seemingly glorious opportunity without a second thought, never taking into account the consequences that could proceed. In the film The Butterfly Effect, Ashton Kutcher plays Evan, a young boy with a genetic predisposition to psychosis, and the ability to travel back in time and redo events in his life. What is first viewed as a gift soon becomes a nightmare as Evan realizes while it may be simple to fix his mistakes, it is impossible to predict what his “solutions” might set into motion. Ethics teaches us that every choice we make or don’t make, why we make them, and what happens when we do is consequential not only for ourselves but for those around us (Williams 24). Although we have a universal responsibility to think about the effect on the global community and even future generations before taking action (Williams 40), we cannot predict or control what additional events or circumstances coincide with our actions. Therefore our choices cannot directly cause negative or positive consequences (Williams 30). The Butterfly Effect is a prime example of our inability to control the sequence of events that is life. As Evan tries to save his one true love Kaylee time and time again, he only complicates the lives of those around him even more. “If I can make scars do I have the power to heal them?” This is one...

...impacts will vary on a regional scale, it is the tourism business that needs to take a look at today and tomorrow’s economic factors. While some of the benefits from climate change may accrue to individual farms or businesses, the cost of dealing with adverse climate impacts are typically borne by society as a whole. These costs to society will not be uniformly distributed but felt most among small businesses and Grand Traverse Bay. Here they will most likely to be affected by climate change such as, water, energy, transportation and public health systems. The costs of inaction are frequently neglected and typically not done. These costs include such expenses as rebuilding or preparing infrastructure to meet new realities and the ripple effect of these economic impacts on the state’s households, the agricultural, manufacturing, and commercial and public service sectors as well as tourism in Grand Traverse Bay (Douglas, 2001). Climate change will affect the water, energy, transportation, and public health systems, as well as state economies as well as climate change impact and a wide range of important economic sectors from agriculture to manufacturing to tourism. It is all about location in any business. Especially in the tourism business, but what would happen if we did not for see the future. Looking at Traverse Bay it isn’t a positive future for tourism in the Michigan area in the next 10 to 20 years. Looking at Grand Traverse Bay, I will be able to provide...

The mere impact of Disney can simply predicted by the annual revenue generated annually which is 48.8 million USD in 2014 alone. The focus of my research would be how Disney has impacted our characters over the years. The ripple effect it has into our life goals, expectations and aspirations. Due to globalization, the scenario in urban cities of our own country in no different, except for the lower class of our society and those who cannot afford a TV, Disney has almost affected every working class of our society. And Bangladeshi young girls are no different from western suburban teenagers. They, too grow up watching Cinderella losing her glass shoe, Prince charming rescuing Aurora and Snow White living happily ever after. In the façade of innocent entertainment, girls learn that they “deserve” a happily ever after and they need a man to complete/rescue them and in the end it all turns out to be fine. And thus they resort to extreme measures to please men. I would emphasize on the other effects these Princess has on our young girls and the hardships they face when they realize life is anything but a...

Have you ever seen or worked for an ineffective manager? Describe the causes and the consequences of the ineffectiveness I have personally worked with an ineffective manager. I believe the manager did not care about his work and was unhappy. With his negative attitude, this caused a ripple effect so that everyone else was also unhappy with work. Nothing got done, and if it got done, the quality of the work was very poor. 3. Describe in as much detail as possible how the internet and globalization affect your daily life. Internet plays a major role in my life. I use it for almost everything. Being in a different state as my immediate family, the internet helps me keep close tabs on them. The internet also allows me to see what is going on all around the world. Without internet, I would feel very lost and lonely. As for globalization, I feel this effects my daily life because without it, we wouldn’t have certain products from different countries that we use every day. This was especially true while I was on deployment. There were a lot of American owned business in the different countries I visited, and it made being away for such a long time a little better. 4. The I&D team reviewed the banks history of growth and acquisitions, evaluated its competition, and developed ideas and innovated programs that would theoretically keep the bank moving forward. As these ideas evolved, they needed to be tested in the market prior to implementing the new programs company wide. The leadership of the bank decided to create a small number of test sites that would allow the I&D team to implement their improvement strategies while having a minor effect on the company as a whole. As in most organizations, implementing changes always creates both positive and negative situations; not only from a functional point of view, but most critically in the way it effects the production, motivation, and attitude of the employees. Some key issues that the team faced were they were given the opportunity to innovate and develop with a very small budget, staff,...

...Ma. Clarinda P. Merle 4A8 1. How I see myself ten years from now. The future is a very complex thing to think about. There are lot of things happening right now that may or may not affect my decisions in the near future. But if I visualize myself in an utterly fiction that I made in my mind, I would say that ten years from now, I’m married to this wonderful man that I loved, having children of my own. I’ll have a beautiful house wherein I and my family would spend our lives together. I’d be happy working as an accountant or maybe I have finished law school and started a business or a small firm of my own. Even if I made plans ahead and I cannot really say more than these. Who knows what life will bring? But as for now, I know all I can see is that in ten years, I’m happy. ...This shift in inventory and the subsequent down turn had a broad ripple effect on the entire industry. Not only were builders impacted, but the housing and real estate segment as a whole experienced the negative effects of this shift. Once the builders could no longer sell the speculative inventory they had built and ceased any new construction, there was a drastic decrease in the amount of work for the contractors. This drives down the price of labor and put many construction tradesmen out of work. The table below shows the volume of decrease from 2005-2006 in residential construction specialty trade jobs. The vastly negative effect this had on the entire economy may never truly be measured. Real estate brokers found it hard to survive as well. Many Realtors that entered the business during times of low inventory and large commissions now found themselves looking for work. Take Nevada for example. In 2007 the state had 35,800 realtors or brokers. Today that number is down to 23,056 with the changes in inventory and demand. Other waves of impact were felt from this as well. Home inspectors, escrow companies and real estate appraisers experienced the same lean times. During times of lose mortgage standards these industries boomed with the rest of the real estate world. Many people made career changes to enter these segments and grab their piece of the housing boom that was taking place. Then as the inventory grew and the demand diminished, they disappeared...

...On September 20, after losing their game, the Union High football team from Roosevelt, Utah crowded into their locker room only to hear their coach ask them to turn in their jerseys. Coach Matt Labrum had had enough with how his players were acting off of the field. Some of his players were getting in trouble for skipping classes while others were receiving punishment for being involved in cyber-bullying. Labrum decided that the best way to teach his team a lesson was to disband the football team, requiring his players to earn it all back. Instead of practicing after school, it was required that the team participate in community service as well as character-building classes. Labrum said that if the boys participated and followed through with what was being asked of them they will have “earned the privilege to play.” To those who might hear of this story, it would be a little controversial; a whole team suspended because of mistakes that only some were making. In reality though, the coach made the right decision. “It is an honor to play sports and represent your entire school and community to other districts,” says Athletic Director, Nick McIlwain. “If a team or player is not representing the school and community in the proper light, as it sounds like with this situation, the coach was justified to take action to ensure that his players would live up to high ethical conduct and shine a positive light on the school and community.” As a coach, it is important...

... For example, Eckels stepped off the path and stepped on a butterfly. This shows that killing the butterfly caused a ripple effect, dramatically affecting the future. This also shows that the smallest things can change the future. In addition, killing a certain animal could wipe out colonies of animals. This shows that by killing the butterfly there is a different president, spelling is different, and the man at the desk is changed. This also shows that killing animals in the past not only effects the animal environment, but the human environment too. Killing the butterfly and changing the future is known as the Butterfly Effect from this story. In the story, the character Eckels is a trophy hunter, who hunts for a thrill, when he finds out about TIME SAFARI INC., when he travels back in time to hunt a dinosaur. For example, Eckels and the Guides travel back to kill the dinosaur that was bound to die anyways by a falling tree. This shows that one of the guides went back before they were there to mark the dinosaur with a big red X. This also shows that the dinosaur was already going to die, so it wouldn’t affect the future. In addition Eckels got scared when the dinosaur started to charge and ran off of the path that was forbidden to leave, stepping on a butterfly and killing it. This shows that Eckels caused the butterfly effect to happen causing the future to...

...Current Event Focus 1 For my current event focus I decided to examine the article named: Free Trade and Globalization by Anup Shah because it talks in great detail about how the world is becoming more globalized, there is no doubt about that. While that sounds promising, this article describes how the current form of globalization, neoliberalism, free trade and open markets are coming under much criticism (Shah, 2011). The interests of powerful nations and corporations are shaping the terms of world trade. In democratic countries, they are shaping and affecting the ability of elected leaders to make decisions in the interests of their people (Shah, 2011). In addition the author describes that elsewhere they are promoting narrow political discourse and even supporting dictatorships and the “stability” that it brings for their interests. This is to the detriment of most people in the world, while increasingly fewer people in proportion are prospering (Shah, 2011). In consequence, the author makes the reader aware of how the western mainstream media, hardly provides much debate, gladly allowing this economic liberalism (a largely, but not only, politically conservative stance) to be confused with the term political liberalism (to do with progressive and liberal social political issues) (Shah, 2011). Margaret Thatcher's slogan of “there is no alternative” rings sharply. Finally, I loved this article because it left me with a great question in mind; perhaps there is no alternative...

...Contents INTRODUCTION 3 The Ripple Effect 3 Companies Goals 4 Long Term Relationships 4 REFERENCE 5 INTRODUCTION According to Timm (2014), “The ripple effect happens when upset customers tell other people” (pg. 7). The Ripple Effect is referred to the activity that starts from very small point and then rapidly emerges into something substantial. It is very similar to exciting news that is generated by one person and it spreads all over his social network within no time. When it comes to customer relations ripple effect has a great impact, since the word of mouth of the customer works as a ripple effect for a company. The Ripple Effect The ripple effect in customer relations is a very sensitive term. It can be highly beneficial if used efficiently or it can degrade the brand within short time. Due to so many look-a-like products and services available in the market today, customer has a lot of option from which he can choose (Timm, 2014). This can be better understood when we consider fast food restaurants. Today, there are so many restaurants that offer the same burger at a price which is quite similar to others. However the augmentation is very different for every restaurant. Creating high value for customers has become mandatory for the restaurant owners now, hence customer services level have raised a lot. People expect the restaurant serviceperson to greet when they arrive and treat them nicely upon every visit. The ripple effect plays an important role over...

...The Ripple Effect Causes of the Ukrainian Famine 1932-1933 The Ripple Effect Causes of the Ukrainian Famine 1932-1933 TABLE OF CONTENTS: * Introduction * Five Year Plan * Collectivization * The Human Factor * Conclusion Introduction Investigation into the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-33 should be closed due to a lack of evidence of criminal culpability. Every action and decision that a person or a government makes has a cause and effect. It is called the ripple effect. In any given society the ripple effect causes second and third order effects. Sacrifices were made in order to make Russia the superpower it is today. Unfortunately, in regards to the Ukrainian Famine of 1932-1933, people were the sacrifices. Investigating archives that have been made available since the collapse of the U.S.S.R in 1991, eyewitness accounts, and other sources evidence suggest that three main causes lead to the Ukrainian Famine. Joseph Stalins’ implementation of his proposed five year plan, beginning in 1927-1932, laid the foundation for what become known as the Ukrainian Famine. The implementation of the five year plan caused a ripple effect that was felt throughout Russia, especially in the Ukraine. The Ukrainian Famine took place prior to World War II happening. Another factor that led to the famine was the collectivization of farms and agriculture. Policies were implemented to ensure that Russia could produce and provide enough grain, crops, and meat to supply the...
