The pickle dish is Zeena’s favorite wedding present. Eventually it was destroyed and she was devastated of the fact that it was gone. The red pickle jar was something that was very symbolizing towards the passion that they didn’t share.

Zeena relates quite a bit to the jar and the pickles herself you could say. She is very stern, and she just rubs in the mean comments she states towards Ethan. During the book we got another symbolization of Zeena where there is a dead cucumber plant outside of her house. So what I’m trying to say is that she relates a lot to a person who almost doesn’t care what others think of her, and that she may take things a little too far maybe?

When she receives the gift for her wedding present, she thinks it is the best gift she ever got. When she got it she never used it, always put in a safe place where no one could get to it. It was basically one of her most prized possessions that she cared for deeply. …show more content…
The pickle jar resembled their marriage so when it broke she had felt like it was gone. She actually attempted to fix the dish but was unsuccessful. Ethan put it back together but had to have glue to keep it from falling apart. The one downside to this was that glue costed money, which Ethan did not have. So in the end he can’t fix the dish, and broke his promise.

The pickle jar is probably one of the biggest parts in this story. It talks about love and romance, and even though you try to fix it, this novel shows that it may not work. When the jar broke she felt like her marriage was destroyed, and that really just sent things into spiral in this
