...03/19/2012 Rhonda Herb Going fast has been something I have loved all my life. All thru out my child hood I dreamed of getting myself a brand-new sports car. Both the GM Corvette and the Dodge Viper are both absolutely awesome options for such a decision. Even with both being so great it still took me doing a lot of research of both my personal situations and the different options that each vehicle offers to allow me to narrow it down to one. They both offer such a precision vehicle that it literally took going into much greater detail with the vehicles just to make the final decision. With all that being said I will further this story by elaborating why the GM Corvette is an all-around better buy for one in a similar condition as myself. The biggest thing I took into consideration was the overall performance of the vehicles, especially since we are talking sports cars. The Dodge Viper comes with and engine that uses ten cylinders which equals massive performance but it is also a whole lot more maintenance and up keep. The GM Corvette only offers 8 cylinders in which is obviously two less but, even with only eight cylinders it still offers massive amounts of horse power. Obviously the added two cylinders of the Dodge Viper will offer more performance but with more performance also comes a lot more money spent. The added price variation just for a little bit more power is not enough to make it a smarter and better...

...Jade Macias English 1 09/16/13 Enjoying and having fun in life is important for the soul to be happy. There’s craziness everywhere you visit, but when you put yourself into a show where you need to have an open mind, to understand, fun and get the full experience, you must go in with an open mind. My first metal show took place on a cool breeze evening traffic on the sunset strip was like any other day. I found myself and others in the car rushing to get to the venue. The sun was setting in the horizon, and the evening was getting fill with excitement. The summer breeze became still and the sky was a pale blue, lots of cars where passing through the sunset boulevard. I had gone to the liquor store nearby to purchase a small bottle of whiskey, to ease the nerves a little. We had stop by one of the buildings to sit down and talk and drink. When I got to the line to wait to enter the whisky a-go-go, as the band was passing by, they videotape us so that we could be on their media network. Alex introduced me to his friends and was told by him that we all stay within the group and look after one another. My attire consisted of high top tennis shoes, band shirts, and skinny black jeans, lose curly hair, the longer the better. Everyone is either wearing the same attire; some have leather jackets, boots, or flannels shirts wrap around the waist. I personally felt self-conscious of how I looked and if I was going to be accepted by the crowd. All you have to do is know the history...

...For instance, during the encounter between Senator Bell and Hundert. Hundert’s expectations were deeply let down. Hundert even states, “I was shocked … ‘how deeply the viper is a viper…” by this point, Hundert had not expected further betrayal from Sedgewick. Hundert seriously underestimates how much of a ‘viper’ Sedgewick is and let his guard down because he originally anticipated Sedgewick to act better than he did (Canin 173). Also, Hundert’s interactions with Sedgewick develop the central idea of Hundert’s expectations of himself. After the “Mr.Julius Caesar” competition, Hundert lets his expectations of himself down immensely when he makes the decision not to accuse Sedgewick of cheating. He even states, “I myself would have stood up for our principles…” this shows that if it was not for Woodbridge and the presence of Senator Bell, Hundert would have followed his principles and done the right thing (Canin 169). Hundert knew his morals, and expectations of himself and knows...

NO. 1 THE FORECAST IS SUNNY FOR THE WEATHER CHANNEL When The Weather Channel, the first 24 – hour all – weather network, began broadcasting in 1982, it quickly became the object of mockery. “Many in the industry ridiculed us, suggesting that the only type of advertiser we would attract would be a raincoat company or a galoshes company,” remembers Michael Eckert, The Weather Channel’s CEO. Besides pondering where advertising support would come from, critics questioned what kind of audience was going to tune in to a channel that boasts wall-to-wall weather, a topic that sounds as interesting as staring at wallpaper. So far, the answers to these questions have been quite surprising. In its over twenty years of broadcasting, the channel has gained support from a cadre of deep-pocket advertisers, which include Buick, Motorola, and Campbell’s Soup. In 2003, the Weather Channel reached more than 83 million U.S. households in Latin America under the name, El Canal del Tiempo. According to The Weather Channel’s Vice-president of strategic marketing, Steven Clapp, “There might have been a time when...

...Slexipedia: Word Formation and Social Use 3.1 Introduction In his publication A Glossary of Netspeak and Textspeak David Crystal blended the two words lexiconand encyclopaediato form lexipedia, a word he used to describe the nature and purpose of his publication as "a cross between a dictionary (lexicon) and an encyclopaedia" (Crystal, 2004: vii). For each term in the glossary there is information one would look up in a dictionary, and the sort of knowledge one would expect to find in an encyclopaedia, such as an etymology of the entry and a hint of its sociolinguistic use. For example: newbie A newcomer to a chatgroup or virtual-world environment, especially one who has not yet learned the way to behave when participating in the dialogue. >>chatgroup; netiquette; virtual world (Crystal, 2004: 79) The coinage of the neologism Slexipedia compounds the acronym SL with lexipedia to provide a term to describe the Second Life-specific lexis in my corpus. In addition to providing a SL glossary according to Crystal's method (Appendix X), this chapter investigates the creative and innovative word-formation processes of SL English and Arabic vocabulary by its residents. Since use of vocabulary reflects identity (Crystal, 2001; Benwell and Stokoe, 2006; Boellstorff, 2008), the final concern of this chapter is the manner in which these SL terms are used in conversational interaction inworld, to reflect the social purposes and circumstances in which these words are...

Bamboo Pit Viper The Bamboo pit viper's fangs are a hollow tube hooked up to venom producing sacks behind the snakes eyes. It is so long that they fold up to the roof of the viper's mouth so they will not bite themselves. If a snake loses a fang, it will simply grow another one. Bamboo pit vipers hunt usually at night by using heat sensing pit organs. A snake can breath when their mouth is full of prey as they have small tubes in the back of their throat that reach out far enough to draw air in so they won't pass out while trying to swallow. A snake's throat takes up to a third of its body. Snakes do not blink because they don't have eyelids. Snake eyes are covered with a clear scale called a spectacle, which they do not need to blink to keep their eyes moisturized. Sneaks do not smell with their nose. Instead, they stick out their tongue to collect scents. When the tongue is back in the mouth it touches the Jacobson's organ on the roof of the mouth, which tells the pit viper what it is smelling. 4. ...Now it’s my turn and I’m going to probably bomb it the first couple of times but then i’ll get it. They will probibly make fun of me for being bad or not being able to get up the board. I have to put this stupid blue life jacket on and it makes me uncomfortable. I jump into the semi-warm water and start swimming out to the rope with the board under me. I grab the Body Glove rope and hook it onto the Viper knee board. Then I tell them I’m ready to go and my uncle Paul’s shiny bald head like a bald eagle looking for it’s prey, turns around and starts the engine. I start floating and sinking. I remember what my family told me. Pull, lock, strap, grab. I use my little upper body strength to heave myself up to the top of the plastic-foam Viper board and lock my legs into their rightful places. I pull the velcro Power Lock strap over my legs and attach it to the fuzzy side of the velcro. Then I pick up the yellow and black Body Glove handle that I had hooked on the front of the board and I use it to stay in the wake of the boat that I’m trailing behind. I’m going so fast if I hit a wave I think I will fly to the...

...of representationalism: weak (nonreductive) and strong (reductive) (406). She characterizes the weak variety of representationalism as taking all of the information that is provided, but then tacking on a footnote to the information that says that it is dependent on the phenomenal character of the observer (Kind 406). On the other hand, strong representation removes the original object from consideration entirely, focusing solely on the representation of the object (Kind 406). A problem with conceptualizing something solely on its perceived qualities is that there is a potential for a single sense to give two different representations, causing reductive representation to topple. Gray gives an example of a pit viper that can see in the infrared spectrum (367). This viper is able to see temperature, meaning that this is both a heat sense and a visual sense. These are two different representations from the same sensory data. Now, an objection may be raised that that these representations are layered on top of each other meaning that the infrared indicates temperature and everything can coexist happily, but Gray preempted that argument responding that because the “second layer of content is represented by the representation of a first layer of content,”...

...Mornings came early at Royal Lodge Farm; Justin sat down at the kitchen table just as the old grandfather clock in the hall chimed out the hour. The low morning sun rose steady into a clear blue sky, with the smooth horizon broken occasionally by narrow seams of white thorn hedgerows that stitched together a patchwork of irregular green fields quilting the countryside. It was always brighter at this time of year, the frost in the cool autumn air amplifying the light that flooded through the kitchen window. The fresh linen table cloth reflected against the chalk white ceiling and walls, illuminating the room further, caused Justin to squint slightly as he leaned across the table to pour another cup of hot tea. He still felt tired from the flight the night before, but the brightness of the room and fresh country air was revitalising and had a way of waking you up and giving you new life. A smile of discernment adorned his face as he stirred the cup with a silver spoon. He couldn’t believe he had fallen into her trap again. He had actually asked to stay here with the one that had once totally screwed up his mind, and for that matter his life, some others weren’t just so lucky. Even he wondered why he had put himself in such a position, but for the moment his options were few. She stood there, looking so breakable and fragile, or so it seemed, yet he wondered was she planning something for him, a game maybe? She was like a cat that plays with the mouse before making the kill...
