Theresa Jahng, or as I know her, Mrs. Jahng, is a high school mathematics teacher at Chapelgate Christian Academy in Marriottsville, Maryland. She graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and economics and later received an equivalent Master’s. Mrs. Jahng worked as a business consultant managing consulting practices, which involved strategic planning, for twelve years before she started teaching. Prior to her becoming a certified teacher, she was an adjunct at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for two years. She became certified to teach through a community college program ten years ago and taught at a public school for five years. For the past five years, Mrs. Jahng has been working at Chapelgate Christian Academy. However, in order for her to teach at Chapelgate, she needed to receive a certification from the Association of Christian School International (ACSI), which meant that she had to take bible studies classes in addition to already having the Christian philosophy. I now feel that I have a better understanding of the responsibilities that educators have in teaching and a rekindled motivation to become a teacher that makes a difference in their student’s lives. While talking to Mrs. Jahng, I gained some insight into which level and environment I would most like to teach. Like Mrs. Jahng, I would like to teach high school children in a private school. I want to teach at the high school level because it would be more stimulating, in addition, I would like to teach at a private school because the dynamic of a private school setting is much different and more appropriate for me than a public school environment. Mrs. Jahng’s parting words to me were to follow my heart. I hope that one day I become a remarkable teacher like Mrs.
