1.0 Introduction
A grading system plays a key role in the management system of any school. But, such system does not often relate expectations, outcomes, and performance. As each student desires to achieve a good score for each assignment, exam, project and/or report, the whole process adds heavy workload for professors in order to make their evaluation fair, comprehensive, and accurate. Form the department perspective, these are necessary to avoid disagreement from students and parents. Grades monitoring system is a highly desirable addition to the educational tool-kit, particularly when it can provide less effort and a more effective and timely outcome.
Grades monitoring systems are designed to provide incentives for achievement and assist in identifying problem areas of a student. It is the most commonly used means of analyzing student performance, talents and skills. Students` grades are vital information needed in advancing to the next year level and its accuracy is very important.
In remote areas, still utilize the manual method of recording and computing for the grades of the students.
The proponents of this study wish to reduce the workload of professors by eliminating the need for manual computation and recording of each grade. As the workload gradually increases with growing amounts of grades and student lists that need to be attended, it becomes tedious on the part of the professor to proficiently manage them in time for documentation and file submission to the department head and registrar. As such, this paper aims to produce a workable computerized grading system that addresses these issues.

1.1 Background of the Study History Bestlink College of the Philippines was established in June 2002 at Sacred Heart Village, Caloocan City by the generous and charitable Madame Mery M. Vicente, president, and Engineer Reynaldo Corpuz, administrator. The school was initially named “LOG-ON TODAY”, but the management later on decided to change it as it literally sounded like an Internet café. Inspired by the phrase, “Be trained to be the best; be linked to success”, BESTLINK came out to be more appropriate. Since BESTLINK offers computer-based courses, it was eventually decided decided to name the school BESTLINK INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.With its mission and vision of providing holistic training, Bestlink started with four computer TESDA-accredited courses. These are Computer System Design and Programming, Computerized Office Management, Computer Technology and Networking and Computer Graphics and Web Development. Bestlink started its operations with seven students: five from Computerized Office Management and two from Computer System Design and Programming. Its first location did not appeal positively to public patronage, so the school did not attain the expected number of students. During that time, Bestlink had only four faculty members: Engr. Reynaldo Corpuz, math instructor and administrator; Mr. Vincent Carlo Garados, computer instructor and IT coordinator; Respicio Siringan, English instructor; and Ms. Marimel Loya, office management instructor, cashier and student affairs and marketing coordinator. In 2004, Bestlink, with its new administration headed by Engr. Diosdado T. Lleno, school director, decided to move to its new location at 1044 Brgy.Sta Monica Quirino Highway, Novaliches Quezon City. This strategic location led to a huge increase in the number of students.
In 2005, through the persistent efforts of Engr. Lleno, and Mr. Charlie Cariño as the academic consultant, Bestlink offered an additional course, Hotel and Restaurant Services (HRS). The course incorporates seven modules: Commercial Cooking, Food and Beverage Service, House-keeping , Bartending, Baking and Pastry, Tour Guiding, and Front Office Services .

In 2007, with the continuous increase of students, Bestlink temporarily held its classes at Annex 1 fronting the Main Building. The following year, the school acquired three lots adjacent to Greenfield’s I Subdivision. On the first lot stood a two-storey building which used to be a bank. This was improved by Bestlink, such that the ground floor served as the administration office and the second floor housed the school library.
On the second lot, the original structure was remodeled into a mock hotel suit the needs of the school as well as serve as training facility for HRS students. A five-storey building was constructed on the third lot to provide the increasing number of enrollees with quality facilities in line with its vision of providing quality education.
A new structure was added on the vacant space to serve as cooking lab-training room of HRS students. The HRS laboratory and other facilities were transferred on the newly built mock hotel which was inaugurated in August 2008. Due to its continuing expansion, Bestlink started to offer the CHED ladderized program (4-year degree courses): BSIT, BSHRM, BSOA and BSBA major in Marketing and Human Resources Management. The Permit to Operate (PTO) for the first two courses was granted by CHED on 2009 and the last two courses on 2010. It can be proudly stated that these courses are now in their full swing for the school year 2010-2011.
Now that the school has gained its height of success through the collaborative participation of the faculty, staff, student, parents, and the community, Bestlink has indeed excelled to the cause of taking functional and educational leadership in this part of the city.

Computation
The computation of the grades in BCP was still manual although the professors was encode the grades of their student in computer the process is still manual. They compute it by
Encoding
The professors encode the input and output of the student grades to their master plan then transfer it to the computer to compute it.
Passing
The passing of the computed grade was passed to department head together with the soft and hard copy of student grades and the department head verify it, and when it is already verify the professors was passed it to the registrar.
Monitoring
The monitoring of the grades of the students was come to their attendance, activities, assignments, and projects.

1,2 Statement of the Problem 1.2.1 General Problem It is hard to compute the grades of the student using the manual computation process. 1.2.2 Specific Problems 1.2.2.1 Display the student’s grades. 1.2.2.2 Miscomputation of student’s grades. 1.2.2.3 Automatically compute the student’s grades. 1.3 Objectives of the Study 1.3.1 General Objectives The general objective of this study is to develop a Grades Monitoring System for Bestlink College of the Philippines. 1.3.2 Specific Objectives 1.3.2.1 To create a module that will record the grades of the student. 1.3.2.2 To avoid miscomputation of grades. 1.3.2.3 To create a module that will compute the student’s quarterly grade based on inputted data. 1.3.2.4 To create a module that will secure and maintain the integrity of data.

1.4 Significance of the Study The Grade Monitoring System is a very important aspect of a school’s operations and goals. 1 Faculty Professors would be able to record and compute for the grades of their students faster thereby lessening their workload and providing them with added time to attend to other functions. 2 School Administrators School Administrators no longer have to re-compute the grades of each student to check on their accuracy. Reports such as grading sheets and class records can be submitted on time. 3 Students Students can now look forward to better lessons since their professors would have added time to prepare for them their lesson plans. 4 Researchers Researchers look for the best and appropriate system that suitable for the school professors to lessen their work when it comes to computing of the grades of their students.
1.5 Scope and limitation of the Study 1.5.1 Scope of the Study * Can view the students records * Can compute the students grades * The system is password protected * The system have admin 1.5.2 Limitations of the Study * the system cannot print the student’s grades. * The system is cannot be viewed online. * The system has no password recovery.

2.0 Methodology of the Study Analysis It is the stage where the researchers think an appropriate system which was be able to help the professors of BCP to lessen the work when it comes to computation of the grades of their students. In this stage the researchers was able to create the SIS subsystem Grades Monitoring System.

Design The Design stage describes how the proposed solution is to be developed. The solution design is specific to the system’s technical environment and the tools to be used to constructing the system. The results of this stage will be inputs to the Execute and Implement stages.

Coding Includes implementation of the design specified in the design document into executable programming language code. The output of the coding phase is the source code for the software that acts as input to the testing and maintenance phase.

Testing Includes detection of errors in the software. The testing process starts with a test plan that recognizes test-related activities, such as test case generation, testing criteria, and source allocation for testing. The code is tested and mapped against the design document created in the design phase. The output of the testing phase is a test report containing errors that occurred while testing the application.

Implementation It is the process by which technical, personnel and administration issues are addressed and involve the review of hardware and software, the physical installation, the documenting of procedure and the training of all personnel.

Maintenance The maintenance phase includes handling the residual errors that may exist in the software even after testing the phase.
