INTEGRATED SCIENCES: LIFE SCIENCE AND CHEMISTRY

The human body is formed by different systems and organs that allow it to work, and grow. We will study the skeletal system, the skin and muscles, food and digestion, circulation, respiration and excretion.

1. What must I know and be able to do at the end of the third bimestrial?

¬ Ch. 1 Bones, Muscles, and the Skin 1. Identify the functions of the skeletal system, the muscular system and the skin. 1. Compare and contrast movable and unmovable joints, and types of muscles. 1. Explain how skin protects the body from disease. ¬ Ch. 2 Food and Digestion 1 Identify the importance of each type of nutrient. 2 Explain the relationship between diet and health. 3 Identify the organs of the digestive system and what takes place in each. ¬ Ch. 3 Circulation 1 Compare and contrast arteries, veins and capillaries. 2 Identify the functions of the pulmonary and systemic circulation system. 3 Identify the parts and functions of blood, and give examples of diseases. 4 Describe the functions of the lymphatic system, and explain how lymph organs help fight infections. ➢ Ch.4 Respiration and Excretion 1. Describe functions of the respiratory system and what happens during gas exchange and breathing. 2. Identify the structures that air passes through as it travels to the lungs, harmful chemicals contained in tobacco smoke, and the structures and functions of the excretory system. 3. Explain how tobacco smoke affects a person’s health over time and how excretion contributes to homeostasis. 2. What experience will I have and learn and what will I be able to do?

> Mini Labs in the classroom. > Problem-solving activities > Integrate different sciences (environmental, math., language arts, chemistry, statistics, and astronomy.) > Formal Lab. Practicals > Critical thinking activities > Reinforcement worksheets > Summarize important information given in Videos. > Research on a given problem or theme.

3. How will I demonstrate what I know and am able to do?

> I will arrive on time to my class; will sit in my assigned seat with all my materials ready. > I will come prepared to participate in the discussions and activities of the classroom. > I will keep a register of what I have learned with notes and pertinent information. > I will make 2 or 3 notes in my agenda every week. > I will keep a portfolio with my best work. > I will show the best part of myself and take all the quizzes and tests according to the instructions.

4. How will I be evaluated?

I will follow the rubrics and expectations given to me as a guide to carry out quality work. The evaluation criteria will be specified with the quizzes, tests, worksheets, Lab. Sheets, etc given to me. a. On the scale of 100: Classwork 40%, Homework 30%, Assessments 30% .

This refers to the fact that ‘Blink” is not entirely related to the theories of science or time travel only but it mainly depicts the link to the development of the characters and the plot. In a nutshell, the plot of ‘Blink’ was captivating and was interlaced with intrigue yet the element of humour in certain scenes was not missing. As the plot meets its end, it seems difficult to comprehend as to how the plot developed in such a short span of time. We find two relationships in the story, and the most surprising element in the whole plot was how the story mainly revolved around Dr Who and his cryptic messages, yet the antagonists disguised as the Weeping-Angels met their end without ever encountering the Doctor himself...
