Create a Problem Statement: Kudler Fine Foods

Kathy Kudler has always had a fascination for gourmet foods, wines, and different beverages; in fact, Kathy decision to open a gourmet food store was brought to surface as she noticed how hard it was to find different ingredients for gourmet meals and beverages. When Kathy realized that she was not alone in her frustration, she began implementing ways to shop for the ingredients in one place. The strategic objectives of this company are to lead the market in offering gourmet products in a one stop and shop atmosphere, continual updating ideas, goods, and products. In fact, one of Kudler Fine Food’s main objectives is to maintain a healthy relationship with all suppliers and meet the needs of customers through workshops, seminars, cooking classes, and surveys.
Problems with organization
In the mission statement on the first page of the intranet for Kudler Fine Foods, employees are referred to as team members. However, Kathy Kudler, President and founder, has not allowed herself to place the trust and responsibility of performing daily duties into the hands of the qualified team members she has hired for each role. The organizational chart shows three directors, three store managers, six store assistant managers and a department manager for each department in each store. In addition, each department has an assistant manager. Under all these positions are clerical and support staff. issues within the organization including inventory turnover and wasted food, high payroll costs, lack of financial understanding and potential competition but the one area that we all agreed was the largest issue is the lack of delegation of duties by the company president. Maintaining or losing that trust seems to simply come down to the day to day actions of the individual. If team members come from the same organization, it may be supposed that an established level of trust is in place. However, as new project teams are formed the level of trust that is initially granted varies dependent on several variables.
