...History Hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) are vehicles that combine internal combustion engine propulsion and electric propulsion. The first attempt at creating a hybrid vehicle was in 1665 by Ferdinand Verbiest. Verbiest had plans for a four wheeled vehicle that could run on steam or pulled by a horse. Verbiest tried for more than 15 years to fine tune his idea but there is no proof that this vehicle was produced (TopBits Tech Community, n.d.). Nicholas Cugnot came up with a working steam-powered carriage in 1769. Cugnot built his invention and it could travel at a max speed of six miles per hour. The downside to this vehicle concept was acquiring enough steam to travel any long distance was hard to accomplish. This defect was the demise of this idea and any possible improvements in transportation (TopBits Tech Community, n.d.). Robert Anderson of Scotland designed the first electric powered car in 1839. The vehicle had limited range and a battery that was difficult to recharge. In 1870, Sir David Solomon had developed a lighter electric motor for the carriage but had problems creating a dependable battery that could recharge easily. The very limited range and expensive recharging hindered his invention from going too far (TopBits Tech Community, n.d.). In the upcoming years, London business investors became interested in creating an electric taxicab. The plans would use a 28-cell battery system powering a small electric motor. Unfortunately...

...now is a hybrid vehicle. The question that comes to mind is, are hybrid vehicles worth it? With record high gas prices due to the price of oil, most car owners out there have major concerns over their gas usage. Over the past ten years, the cost of gasoline has grown 250%! The price of oil has doubled since January of this year. The high prices of oil and gas is the driving factor for most of the people to trade their gas powered vehicles for hybrid vehicles. These vehicles promise to give consumers more mileage per gallon, the truth is that only a few vehicles currently in the market actually make any sort of financial sense. There are quite a few issues with buying hybrid vehicles, even with gas prices at more than $4 a gallon. First, these vehicles are much higher in price than their gas powered counter part so, the premiums attached to their price tags do not justify extra mileage that you get. In some cases car dealers are selling popular vehicles at much higher prices than MSRP. Second, there are no laws and regulations controlling the technology, price, and the mileage per gallon required out of these vehicles. Currently, there are hybrid vehicles in the market that offer an improvement of 3MPG to 18 MPG over their gas powered counterpart. This is a huge range that needs to be controlled. Third, the demand of these vehicles is driving the prices of the vehicles even higher, if people knew that it would take many years for fuel savings to pay back the hybrid premium...

...Toyota is a well-known brand, especially to me because I have a Toyota Camry that I love. I wanted to learn more about the green marketing strategy, and I decided to focus mostly on the Prius marketing strategies, as it is a “green” vehicle and becoming very popular. The Toyota Prius provides a concrete case study of this truth. While the biggest product differentiation of the Prius is a fuel efficient, hybrid engine, most people do not buy it because it is eco-friendly. We assert that Toyota succeeded by marketing the Prius on multiple factors including the potential for gas savings, appeal to those who desire the latest technology, crossing into multiple market segments, and keeping the car practical, attractive, and functional. If they had appealed solely on impact to the environment, they would have failed to generate significant market penetration. Toyota did not set out to create a hybrid car. Rather, the Chairman Eiji Toyoda was concerned about the increasing popularity of larger cars and of the effect it would have on pollution levels in increasingly congested cities. He was concerned about the threat of peak oil looming and believed that the traditional internal combustion engine would not successfully carry Toyota into the next century. It was a year into that effort that Toyota decided to adapt a hybrid approach to creating a car with a lower impact on the environment. Toyota was cautious in entering the American market (Itazaki, 1999). Toyota's first step was...

...if we only believe the things that we want to see. Sometimes the truth is the only thing that hurts us the most. But in the long run, would you rather live in a world full of lies than to live with the truth? Many Filipinos believe that the youth is the hope of this nation. But I believe that the youth is not simply the hope of the nation. The youth itself is the nation. Every little decision of the youth affects the future of the society. Every little deed makes up someone’s history. Every youth can be a hero in their own paths. But are they given that chance and opportunity to change the nation’s future? The word of the youth is commonly considered to be futile. In the society we live in someone’s worth or sense is measured by the age and by the number of wrinkles on one’s forehead. The truth is, the voice of the youth is more sincere and more straightforward. It is an honest voice which is overruled by emotions without any limitations or thoughts to consider because the youth is as innocent as an infant but not as aged as an elder. It means that the youth is like a hybrid of two magnificent states, the pureness of the mind of a child and the wisdom developed through time floating in a place of equilibrium. What can the youth do? What can the youth contribute to ease that pain that was inflicted to the Filipinos by the Filipinos themselves? The youth cannot do much with their physical prowess, nor can we help by our financial capabilities. All we can do is to become an instrument...

...ongoing process that sometimes lasts for a year. It represents a sense-making process that helps new hires adapt, form work relationships and find their place in the organization. A typical socialization process includes three phases: 1. Anticipatory socialization: This stage occurs before new hires join the organization. Through interacting with representatives of the company (e.g., recruiters, managers), new hires develop expectations about the company and the job prior to organizational entry. 2. Encounter: When new employees begin a new job, they start to learn about job tasks and receive training. Managers can exert their influence by helping new employees understand their roles and duties. Also, by understanding the stresses and issues that newcomers experience, managers can help cultivate a high-quality work relationship with newcomers. 3. Settling in: New employees begin to feel comfortable with their job demands and social relationships. They will be interested in the company’s evaluation of their performance and in learning about potential career opportunities within the company. Regardless of the years of work experience that new employees have, knowing the technical and social aspects specific to the job and the company is essential to function in a new environment. To manage a better socialization process organization also apply three stages. These are : *Realistic job preview: In this stage an overall description of responsibilities is given to the new...

...Dana Brown Whistle blowing Article Link: http://www.computingcases.org/case_materials/hughes/case_history/hughes_case_history.html Whistle-blowing is the disclosure by current or former employees of illegal, immoral or illegitimate organizational practices to people or organizations that may be able to change the practice. The whistle- blower lacks the power to change the undesirable practice directly and so appeals to others either inside or outside the organization. A good example of whistle-blowing is shown in the “The Hughes Whistle blowing Case. “ In the mid 1980s, Hughes Microelectronics was manufacturing what were called hybrid microchips for use in guidance systems and other military programs. This case is about what happened when employees of Hughes Microelectronics noticed that these tests were being skipped. The decisions they made to report this makes this one of the classic cases in the history of whistle-blowing. Margaret Goodearl and Ruth Ibarra are the two whistle-blowers in this case. Goodearl was in charge (along with Donald LaRue) of the floor area in which the testing was done. Ibarra was a quality control agent hired by the company to provide an additional audit of the accuracy and completeness of the tests. Margaret Goodearl and Ruth Ibarra witnessed at least five attempts to bypass the appropriate tests. In each incident when Goodearl would address the issue to upper management she was threatened with loss of her job. After Goodearl began to report...

...experiments can be defined as an act of operation undertaken in order to discover the hidden principle effect and test, establish and illustrate the unknown truth. Generally, researchers carry out the experiments in order to accept or reject certain hypothesis. Experiments are conducted to establish tht effect of one or more in dependent variables in a response, which is dependent variable. These independent variables are often called treatments or factors. Examples are different fertilizers, different makes of machines and different advertisement channels. The values of a response are supposed to reflect the effect of different treatments. If an experiment is to be carried out on a particular project, the objective of the experiment must be clearly stated, unless the objective of tge experiments must be clearly stated, unless the objective of the project is carefully identified, the most appropriate design may not be adopted. The main aim of this project is to use the collected data to investigate the effect of different levels of nitrogen fertilizers on the fertilizers on the yield of maize and sugar beet separately using analysis of variance (ANOVA) method at the institute of agricultural research Akure It should be noted that the data used here is secondary data. Fertilization has to do with the aim of bringing about an increase in crop yield and consequently increase in farmers’ product and income. That is to increase the yield of maize and sugar beet and make useful observation...

...provide a background on issues that have negatively affected Toyota’s image as one of the most reliable cars on the market. Along with this a PEST analysis will be produced and the strengths, weaknesses, and outcomes expected will be shown in order to illustrate how our analyses and actions will help move Toyota past their reputational issues. Our goal is to take Toyota back to a place where they can move themselves back to a place of growth, innovation and one of positive consumer confidence. For over the past 70 years Toyota has been considered the leader in new technology development. The brand is renowned for quality and reliability across all their models. The company is also seen as the market leader and flag-bearer for greener, hybrid technologies. The firm’s performance in the global market in recent year has delivered mixed results. In the beginning of 2009 Toyota was confirmed as the world’s largest manufacturer by volume, partly due to the collapse of General Motors. But Toyota hasn’t had much time to celebrate. The carmaker has been plagued by a variety of setbacks, including slumping sales, under-utilized assembly lines and multibillion-dollar losses. But perhaps most worrisome of all are signs that the company’s flaunted quality has been slipping. Long hailed as the industry benchmark, some key Toyota products have suffered quality snags in recent years regarding the overall safety of their vehicles. The auto media seems to believe that Toyota’s reputation...

...Using material form Item A and elsewhere, assess the view that the growth of religious fundamentalism is a reaction to globalisation The view that the growth of religious fundamentalism is a reaction can be seen as true. The issue of religious fundamentalism has emerged as a major area of media and political concern in recent decades. Fundamentalism is religion based on an unquestioning belief in the literal truth of a scared text. Giddens, argues that fundamentalists are traditionalists who seek to return to the basics or fundamentals of their faith. They believe in the literal truth of scripture and that it provides answers to all life’s important questions, from politics to family life. Fundamentalists believe theirs is the only true view of the world. They refuse to engage in dialogue with others, they justify their views by reference to dogma and scare texts rather than rational arguments. Giddens notes that the term ‘fundamentalism’ is a relatively new one and he its growth as a product of and reaction to globalisation. However, Cosmopolitanism contrasts with fundamentalism. Cosmopolitanism is tolerant of the views of others and open to new ideas. Moreover, Giddens sees fundamentalism as the enemy of cosmopolitanism religion and spirituality. Religion, however, as argued by Bruce is used as cultural defence. This is where religion serves to unite a community against an external threat. Religion has special significance for its followers because it symbolises the...

...dioxide, is a gas that is trapped in the atmosphere. They are key factors in the Greenhouse Effect, a warming process. Automobiles and transportation are one of the leading sources of GHG emissions following industrial production, both of which rely on the combustion of fossil fuels for power. Carbon dioxide is the main gas that is released from burning fossil fuels such as petroleum. The problem with gas emissions released by industrial production is hard to cap, however, the problem involving the amount of carbon emissions released can be significantly reduced by cutting back on the amount of individual driving. This is important because transportation is one factor in the warming process that we can control. Many assume that buying a hybrid is a solution to the warming problem. While this is helpful it is not a large enough solution to make a major impact. One way to help cut-backs significantly is to increase and expand on public transportation while making it more efficient and safer for the environment. This would result in fewer combustion vehicles on the road, and an overall reduction in GHG emission. There are a few different types of GHGs that are harmful to the atmosphere. The main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The GHGs methane and nitrous oxide are not very relevant in the combustion of fossil fuels through transportation. Carbon dioxide or CO2, is the main GHG released through transportation. CO2 is the gas which receives...
