Lee H SPOTLIGHT RADICALLY REINVENT YOUR SUPPLY CHAIN Hong Kong–based Esquel, one of the world’s leading producers of premium cotton shirts, faced a quandary in the early 2000s. Apparel and retail customers such as Nike and Marks & Spencer had begun asking the company about its environmental and social performance. Its leaders anticipated scrutiny from other customers as well, since more of them were demanding that a greater portion of the cotton in their shirts be grown organically. But the crop required a lot of water and pesticides, especially in poor and rapidly developing countries, where Esquel’s cotton was grown and processed. Though Esquel’s executives wanted to strengthen the company’s already serious commitment to social and environmental sustainability, they realized they couldn’t simply demand that the farmers who supplied extra-long-staple cotton just reduce...

...Lee, H. 2010. Don’t Tweak Your Supply Chain – Rethink It End to Tend. Harvard Business Review. Vol. 88, Issue 10, 63-69 As a company, sustainability is important, and you have to undergo certain steps in order to achieve maximal sustainability. Main points: -Sustainability should be integrated in the core of the operations. -Work together with operations close to yourselves in order to gain sustainability. -Examine the all the links in your supply chain and decide whether or not they can be more sustainable -Work with other supply chains, even rival ones, to achieve high sustainability. Evaluation: The article itself was not bad. Sustainability being a noble subject made the article easy to agree with. The article clearly favored sustainability, contained personal opinions of the author and therefore lacked in objectivity a bit. For example: ‘Instead, companies--throughout the supply chain, not just at the end--should take a holistic approach to sustainability and pursue broader structural changes than they typically do.‘ From this sentence, one can see that the author is very pro-sustainability. He could have put some points against sustainability in the article, so that the reader can evaluate both sides of the topic and then make a decision whether or not sustainability is worth pursuing so intensely as the author wants. Questions: 1 What are the biggest downsides of sustainability? 2 In the article, you told that you have to work closely with your competition...

...iPhone had to offer, it sparked ideas and numerous possibilities. With the following of the new iPhone generations, new ideas were added into them and became more and more popular. But to some people they wanted those ideas already on the iPhone. Shortly, after the first iPhone, came Jailbreak. This allowed expanding those ideas on the iPhone. According to an article by Forbes, dating February 8, 2013, nearly seven million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners have cracked Apple’s restrictions on their devices using the jailbreaking tool Evasi0n in four days making it the most popular Jailbreak ever. Jailbreak gives people the ability to customize their Apple devices. I will explain more about what Jailbreak is, as well the themes, apps, and tweaks. So what is Jailbreak? By definition from the book “iOS Hacker’s Handbook,” states that “Jailbreak is the process of removing the limitations on Apple devices running the iOS operating system through the use of software and hardware exploits.” Jailbreaking will allow the user to personalize and customize their device. While this sounds amazing, it still has its disadvantages. For instance, your device is more vulnerable to an attack. Devices could possibly get corrupted and crash. According to an article from Computer News Middle East, published on February 7, 2013, states that “It is not illegal to Jailbreak an iPhone or iTouch device, but may void the device’s service warranty.” So let’s say you...

...exact’. The film contains a some-what likeness of the novel, in keeping with the main storyline and ideas, but certainly not ‘correct in all details. The example of these include the apparent lack of detail about the internal feelings of the characters, the minor, though noticeable ‘tweaks’ of the storyline and the selection of the main characters themselves. Throughout the entire Tomorrow When the War Began movie there is a crucial lack of detail regarding the personal, individual feelings of the main characters. This is a complete contrast to the book as one of the most appealing elements of the novel is the in-depth internal monologue of the characters as they battle the war within themselves, whilst overcoming the physical war. This void in the movie can’t simply be replaced by explosions or special affects as it really puts a drain on the overall entertainment value. I feel you miss out on a portion of the storyline when only experiencing the movie, thus concealing the genius that is the big picture. The emotions of the main characters in only a minor element missing from the movie, but a very significant one. An inaccuracy of the movie compared to the film would be the directors little ‘tweaks’ of the storyline. Though, not major, they change the mood of the storyline and I find them some of them completely unnecessary, as they are not adding anything to the film. For example, when Hommer discovers a snake in his sleeping bag and decides to ‘free’ it. In the novel the snake...

...complex the system the more we depend on empiric findings to establish a specific framework/model. Any prediction can only be an approximation. No framework for organizational change can be universally applicable to more than a limited set of change processes. Besides, the majority of the models are presented as a linear model (step by step), which assumes predictability and manageability of change processes. This does not relate to the complexity theory (organization/structure is complex & adaptive and can be self-organizing) used for strategic management & organizational studies. Furthermore, the models are often proposed for a top-down change (i.e. decisions made at top management level of the company), therefore often need some tweaks for bottom-up change proposals. Last but not least, the individual needs and behaviors face to change and its interaction (as shown below) with the team or organization-level change shall be taken into account while using any framework....

...wouldn't even want to read that first 15 pages at all, so I struggled while putting it together. I wound up self-publishing before I even heard back from the small press publisher, and when putting together the information about The Goblin Market on Amazon, Smashwords and B&N, I grabbed that elevator pitch and0 started to dissect it. Could it be used in my product description? Was it too formulaic and dense? Would it be enough to draw interested readers to check out the sample? There was only one way to find out: get some feedback. I passed my elevator pitch around to a few trusted friends and readers, and the overall response was positive. After a few tweaks and alterations, I added it, and there it was. Since I published the novel, I've gotten some feedback and have since considered doing a few more minor tweaks, but I know that just like a novel sometimes we have to let go and let our readers decide. I think a good way to judge is to see how your sales go. If after publishing and promoting for a few weeks, you aren't seeing a few sales trickle in, give it time, but don't be afraid to ask around. Cross-compare your own description to other popular novels in your genre and see how it stands up. Are the details juicy enough to pique curiosity Reference...

...Flow diagram does correlate to each other. The program was built in a straightforward fashion. If you would relate to the Pseudocode herein our discussion board, you would notice that it is a step-by-step procedure that has been put up as a flowing structure. Flow diagram makes that application feasible as it readjust the procedures for proper setup and illustrations that is easily understood by programmers that want to apply the system. The pseudocode and flow diagram created in this example are great useable creation. I would however tweak the setup only when a prior and necessary procedure needed to be added base on the engineering of the program. I would also check the designing restraints of the pseudocode that I will build before I would create a flow diagram as sometimes in real world the pseudocode we create will not fit the case. The advantage of using a flowchart is that programmers and designers will be able to outline and tweak the structures of a given program to their desired outcome . As programmers use it as a default structure in creating two deviating figures from having Boolean system incorporated as such “If” and “then” structures that will correlate into having a rhetorical questions answerable by “yes” and “no” structure. As the plain yes or no and true or false play into scene the chart and figure moves apart as desired answers have certain consequences built. The yes or no and true or false structure will outline two deviating answers to each other...

...Article Review Jennifer Abruscati LAW/421 June 2, 2014 Stacey Mealey Article Review The “High Court Ruling Only Tweaks Sarbanes-Oxley Act” article refers to the Supreme Court ruling in the case Free Enterprise Fund v. PCAOB. The United States Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of all of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and it will remain “fully operative as law”, except for one provision that allows the Securities Exchange Committee (SEC) to remove PCAOB members on good cause only. The Supreme Court decided that this provision did not agree with the United States Constitution’s premise of separation of powers, giving authority to the president, not the SEC, to appoint or fire PCAOB members. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act was passed through the U.S. Congress in 2002 after various corporate accounting scandals, such as Enron. Financial statements were falsified to make the corporation look more appealing to investors and for those who invested and believed Enron’s financial position to be true, lost everything. How would investors know if they are making a good investment? Investors were scared to invest in corporations because financial statements were not regulated. The SOX Act was created to protect investors from corporations that use fraudulent accounting activities by enforcing policies and regulations for reporting financial statements and holding companies accountable that used fraudulent methods. Today, the SOX Act is an integral part of all corporations financial...

...especially important when dealing with a completely new data set. 3. Data Preparation – Now that you have a good understanding of the data, you will need to prepare it for modelling. You will identify and treat missing values, detect outliers, transform variables, create binary variables if required and so on. This stage is very influenced by the modelling technique you will use at the next stage. For example, regression involves a fair amount of data preparation, but decision trees may need less prep whereas clustering requires a whole different kind of prep as compared to other techniques. 4. Modelling – Once the data is prepared, you can begin modelling. This is usually an iterative process where you run a model, evaluate the results, tweak your approach, run another model, evaluate the results,...

We plan on doing this by going back and analyzing the data and finding the flaws in our system that inhibited us achieving our goal. Once we identify what those things were, we will work together to implement changes as well as discontinue use of strategies that are not effective. 4.1 Implementation: We plan on starting with one city, that city is being Baldwin Park. We have chosen Baldwin Park because it is saturated with independent practitioners and it is close to where both of us live. We will see monitor our services for six months with the initial clients. If we find inconsistencies we will make the necessary adjustments to our system and begin to expand into the surrounding cities. Once we have achieved an effective, accurate system, we will begin to expand to other states. ...How to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod, or iPad By Alora Uy Guerrero | TechnoStorm How Tos – Wed, Aug 14, 2013 * Email * Share * * If you own at least one iPhone, iPod, or iPad, then you've probably come across the curious act known as jailbreaking. In geek terms, jailbreaking something is the process of exploiting a bug or system flaw on an iDevice to eliminate Apple-imposed restrictions and gain privileged access. In other words, you get access to resources that would be otherwise unavailable on your stock Apple product. Heck, jailbreaking even allows you to completely change the way your iDevice looks and functions and make it more like—dare we say it—an Android. Obviously, the biggest tradeoff to any jailbreak method is that it voids your warranty from Apple, which means the company—and by extension, the store you bought your iDevice from—are no longer obliged to uphold any warranty claim, much less repair your hardware if it ends up being a very expensive paperweight. It may also lead to performance issues, but this one's more of a consequence to pulling the trigger on apps, extensions, or themes too quickly without waiting for feedback first. >>READ ALSO: How to turn your Windows laptop into a hotspot If all of this sounds compelling and reasonable to you, then you may want to stick around as we guide you through the process of liberating your iOS device from Apple's ironhanded constraints with the help of Evasi0n, our jailbreak software...

...Lab reportTeiya Bilon August 16, 2011 Period 3 Physical Science This past week in lab, Mr.Kagawa divided us into groups to complete a toothpick bridge. Some of the requirements were that the entire bridge had to span 12 inches apart and 2 inches off the surface, with the support of piers. While we worked together with our teammates we got to know more about the people we are working with. We researched different structures of other bridges in class as well as at home. We also gathered information on how we would use the supplies we are provided to promote good strength on the base of the bridge. The purpose of labs are: to work well with a good amount of people in a group, gain better knowledge of the scientific method, and to also have fun. Working with other people gave me more ideas on how to construct different models of bridges. To gain better knowledge and understanding of the scientific method, actually writing it out and following the procedure helped. The lab was very fun, it wasn’t like any ordinary class where you’d take notes and read from a book. Our hypothesis stated, if the pillars and base were thick and strong then it would hold more books and not break. The materials we used were also apart of the requirements and constraints. We were only given a certain amount of toothpicks and other than that just glue and our open mind. Steps throughout lab: 1) Group drafted blueprint 2) Got materials from teacher 3) Start constructing the pillars/piers...
