The article, “Gifted Students with Disabilities: ‘Twice Exceptionality in the Music Classroom’” by Joseph Michael Abramo, is significant in determining the various strategies that can be incorporated into the classroom for students with a disability. Before reading this article, I was unaware that the teacher has to modify each lesson twice for students who are twice exceptional. I did not contemplate how the teacher would need to differentiate for both their giftedness and their disabilities. This seems as if it would take a significant amount of extra time, especially since the teacher needs to encourage the students to pursue their strengths and interests as well. Overall, it will be extremely challenging to accommodate for students with special needs, but taking on this task will be well worth the additional effort to see the students succeed!…show more content… However, I do not agree with the author including the quote from the music teacher, “He’s smart; he really could be successful if he weren’t so lazy, just applied himself, and stopped wasting his talent.” Even if the music teacher finds Connor’s behavior to be inconsistent and frustrating, saying this about a student is unacceptable. I find this quote to be unnecessary because a teacher needs to consider the student’s disability and understand that often times, the student cannot control the inconsistency. Including this quote within the article allows me to think that the teacher did not take the time to get to know the student and take into consideration his twice
