Part 1
I quit my job of two and a half years, three months ago. I couldn’t handle being around my employees or bosses any longer. One employee in particular was constantly bashing on all of her fellow employees to get herself to the top of the “food chain.” Her strategy worked. Eventually she became the manager of all four boutiques. I was always one of the favorites according to my employees and my bosses. After some time had passed things began to change. I quit my job because started to see people for who they truly were. When I first began working at this boutique I fell in love with my job. I enjoyed working with the public, and got very close to the other employees. I was on cloud nine until I was close to a year of employment at this boutique. My bosses were two sisters who lived locally. They made friends with their employees. They took me out to eat, and out for drinks on my days off. Although they were immensely older than I, and not to mention they were my bosses, they felt more like friends rather than my bosses. I was one of the lucky few to admit that I loved what I did. After a year of working at this boutique things changed. One of the employees was bad mouthing me and other fellow employees. The owners believed her, as she was higher in the company. I was never asked my side of stories that were being told. I went months without any contact to my bosses. I never knew why they were mad at me. Finally I got up the courage to write them an email. In my email I explained my feelings and especially my confusion over the whole situation. The reason why they ended up being mad at me was entirely different than I had ever thought. My bosses were angry because I wasn’t enrolled in school before, and then had changed my school schedule to five days a week, minimizing my availability. School has always been a priority for me, so I had a

Fayol’s Work from Two Different Points of View

...In this essay, the author will compare and contrast two essays; article one considers, Fayol’s and Mintzberg’s theories, and article two which considers Fayol’s and Taylor’s theories. This essay will also explain the author’s view on Fayol’s, Mintzberg’s and Taylor’s theories. Classical management theory is a school of management thought in which theorists delved into how to find the best possible way for workers to perform their tasks. The purpose of the first article is to prove that Fayol’s function of theories is still relevant today but Mintzberg’s theory is better because there are more details for the managers in how to do the managers tasks. The purpose of the second article is to argued that management fashions are a consequence of Henri Fayol’s idea of general management and the general acceptance of this theory. It is suggested that different ideas of management proposed by Frederick Taylor, also work. In the second article the author also trying to prove that Fayol’s theory and Taylor’s theory are useful and can be used together. The key points of the first article are; that several studies that the author observed show that manager use PLOC in their real-life work. PLOC stands for Planning, Organising, Leading, and Controlling. Organisations are also successful when the managers are applying the PLOC in their work. In this article, it shows that Mintzberg criticizes Fayol’s theory, but then MIntzberg’s theory has been criticized by other authors because his roles...

Fayol’s Work from Two Different Points of View

...endorse zero tolerance as it makes a strong statement of organizational discipline and takes little discretion which may be criticized. Critics of zero tolerance claim it is ineffective and leads to random punishments such as 10 year olds suspended for 365 days because her mother packed a knife in her lunch to use to cut up her apple. When she opened her lunchbox she immediately turned it in to her teacher but was still suspended‘(American Psychological Association Zero Tolerance Task Force). What would the early theorist of management thought think of this? The man that first defined management, indeed that there was a special skill we could call management, was a French mining company executive from the 1800’s named Henri Fayol. Fayol’s work was not translated until mid-twentieth century but he is given credit for both defining management and proposing 14 Administrative Principles which should be considered by organizational managers. The Penis

...focus on how Hanif Kureishi uses humor and different points of view to portray his image of the human relationship to and appreciation of objects and likewise. Hanif Kureishi makes use of two of the three theories that has been set around humor. Hanif Kureishi uses ‘the relief theory’ and ‘the incongruity theory’. The relief theory is based around the fact that the reader is going to have a set of taboos or subjects that they do not like to talk about or discuss. Some of these taboos are often things as pornography, genitalia and sex in general, all of which we see in the story. Talking about or being confronted with these taboos will often cause an individual to feel ashamed or nervous. So by confronting the reader with his or her taboos Hanif Kureishi is forcing the reader to deal with his or her shame and/or nervousness and the most common way of doing so is by laughing. Hanif Kureishi implements this in the text by creating a main character, in this case Doug, whom is an “actor” in the industry of pornography, and by writing very obviously about Doug’s work experiences, doings and deeds. And of course there is the huge walking and talking penis… Should it be the case that pornography, genitalia nor sex is not included in the readers list of taboos Hanif Kureishi also makes use of the incongruity theory. The incongruity theory is base aroung the fact that the reader has an assumption about how the world is and works, about what is right and what is wrong and about what...

Leadership and Management

...dependent on attaining pre-designed objectives and to make its services as productive and efficient as possible. However, organizations do not achieve their objectives automatically. In addition to the human resources, physical resources and special know-how in a business organization, there is still one element that is necessary to direct all these resources and activities effectively towards the goals of the enterprise. That indispensable element is management and without it, no purposeful action is possible. The question that is raised within this context of traditional and contemporary views of leadership is how does this aspect coincide and interact with the practical ideals of management. This leads to the debate about management and leadership. Does modern management praxis implicitly include the understanding of leadership, or are leadership and management two very different things. This debate will form the central focus of this paper. 2. Different approaches to the terms leadership and management The approach that will be taken with regard...

...focal point of his book, the argument and defense of the fact that Jesus Christ is the only Savior. Along with this Nash shines a light on the three views that are central to the debate. They are Christian exclusivism, pluralism, and inclusivism. This paper will focus on the difference between Christian exlusivism and pluralism. The bulk of the first chapter is spent focusing on Christian exclusivism. By way of evidences found in scripture and the stance of biblical authority Nash establishes its definition. He places such a strong emphasis on this view that the reader is put in a place of analyzing the other views against the view of Christian exclusivism, and does so in a way that it is understood the other views will more than likely come up short with regard to proving their case. Nash makes this clear with the statement, ““The major question I will seek to answer in the rest of this book is whether pluralists or inclusivists have produced arguments strong enough to justify the repudiation of exclusivism, which is the position of historic Christianity.” It is important to note that a key element when it comes to what is known as Christian exlusivism is its view of Theology. The book states, theology “has been replaced by personal encounter, religious feeling, trust, or obedience.” These thoughts are evident throughout Nash’s expressed views on pluralism through the first six chapters of his book. He doesn’t hide this as he prepares the reader for his views with regard...

The Paradox of Death

...The Paradox of Death Death comes to us all one way or another, there is no escaping death. Our natural life’s cycle must take its course. The core focal point of this exposition is to compare and contrast the symbol of death and impermanence in the poems Because I Could Not Stop for Death by Emily Dickinson and Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas. Each poem offers a different perspective towards accepting death. In one literary work we have someone who welcomed death submissively, in contrast to another literary work where the author is willing someone dear to him to fight against death. Together the two literary works incorporated the same theme with dissimilar points of view, ranging from the way they utilize their respective literary devices such as personification, point of view, symbolism, figure of speech, tone, mood and imagery. The unconformity of the poems “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night” and “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” overshadows the parallel theme of death connecting them. The first poem I’ll discuss will be the poem “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” by Emily Dickinson, which is written in the using a meter form. In agreement with Karen Silvestri, “meter in poetry is what brings the poem to life and is the internal beat or rhythm with which it is read (Silvestri, 2014)”. “Poetry is meant to be recited and the number of beats per line of spoken poetry determines the name of the rhythm, though not often seen, rhythms are named...
