Each and every individual lives with different life styles, morals, and idealistic versions of their own society. Although along the way, we end up going through trials and tribulations that definitely help shape the way we see our future and the way we live on a daily basis. I believe that throughout the years we grow into our adult hood with many perspectives, lessons learned, and internal hardships. Tyrese Gibson’s motivational speech helped me as an individual to keep in mind that we are in control of our own lives, without the dictation of others around us.

His first way of catching the audience’s attention was his tone of voice and his straight forward attitude. With that technique, he leads the audience to ponder about his concluding message overall. He uses past experiences to create a bond between the audience within himself. This was used effectively because Gibson’s past can relate to a lot of people out there and they can use his accomplishments as motivation. Gibson starts off his speech with a deep saying, “Grow through what you go through.” (Gibson 5:48). This is a simple yet effective saying. What he meant by this is that people have a choice to decide who, what, and where you want to go. He then comes off talking about how life can be restless, even when you’re sleeping. Meaning, while you’re awake everybody that is around in your life can be full of issues, insecurities, dysfunction, and negativity. With all of that negativity, you get no rest and you can’t have a “peaceful” sleep because you have all that baggage. Therefore, we are responsible to feeling and being good for our self. I also think that he wanted the audience to realize we have a choice, to stop playing victim because we decide for our self, and regardless if no one wants to be alone, it is better to be alone than to spend your life with miserable, jealous, and insecure people. Gibson states, “In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.” (Gibson 16:59). For me, this quote spoke so much for me. I believe this quote means if you’re surrounded by people less capable or able, someone whom isn’t normally considered special can shine. This wraps up the whole speech because Gibson explains how not to choose things revealed to us.
