The dreadful “Why this school?” essay. While I could sit here and draft a well-detailed essay on UChicago’s education and reputation, I feel propelled to talk about the unique factors that UChicago possesses that makes it a perfect school for me. Contrary to many prospective students, I am not attracted to UChicago solely based on its proximity to Chicago or incredible academic reputation. I am attracted to Uchicago because of the sense of home I experienced when I first stepped onto the campus. It felt as if I had finally found that piece that I was missing my whole life. I could easily picture myself being a part of the UChicago community. I saw myself entering John Crerar Library and interacting with students of multiple majors and cultures thanks to the core curriculum that bonded us. I saw myself creating a new family. I knew that University of Chicago would become the doors to my academic success when I sat to observe a physics class. I was automatically drawn by the way the professor taught his material. I have not always attended schools that have pushed for academic creativity or celebrated challenging yourself, but I have cultivated that in myself. Working alongside such notable faculty and future-notable classmates, I am eager to push myself. I know it won’t be easy, but through UChicago’s support system, including the Career Advancement program, the Multicultural Student Advisory Committee(MSAC), and the Chicago Academic Achievement Program, I believe UChicago is interested in helping students academically, physically, and mentally.
