It took me about 2 hours to read this book. I read without any breaks, it was a great book and I just wanted to read the whole book without any pauses. 
The book is called “Ugly” and it was Constance Briscoe’s debut book. She has written another book, called “What would you do if you were beyond ugly” which is a following book to the one that I read. I thought that this book was very good, it was even better than my expectations. I’m going to read this book again, because it really is amazing, you can never become tired of a book like this one. The book is about her childhood, all the problems she had to deal with, and her mother that always hit her. 

Constance never knew that “Constance” was her name, not until she became 18 years old. Her mother always called her “Clare” after a cleaning agent, because she thought Constance was dirty and ugly. 
I read the whole book without looking up any words; I understood what the word meant when I read the whole sentence. The most important characters in this book would have to be Constance and her mother.
Constance’s mother was always rude, she was never polite to anyone, like one day when some women from Jehovah’s Witness visited their house, she started to yell at them, curse them and called them names. But even Constance’s father had a big part in this book, he was so kind to his kids, he kept visiting them after he had divorced from their mother. Although Constance’s mother tried to kill him with a scissor once and always was impolite to him, he kept being nice to her, he called her cute names and he brought presents to all of them. 
Constance never stopped to pee in bed, and that was one of the things that made her mother really mad. Every morning the same thing happened, her bed was wet when she woke up, her mother rushed into Constance’s room, she feels the sheets, and then she hit her so hard that she falls out of the beds. But she didn’t just hit her, no, she pinched her nipples, she pulls in her hair, and she kicked her everywhere. Poor Constance, this just made her pee more at night. Her mother never hit her siblings; she seemed to love them more. This made Constance sad, I mean I would also be sad if my mother hit me everyday and called me an “ugly whore”. But Constance’s mother hadn’t always treated her like that. When she was younger, her mother bought her clothes and toys. When Constance turned 14, her mother and her mother’s new husband decided to move to another house. First they moved all the furniture’s to the new house, and they brought the three youngest kids. Then they came back and brought Constance’s two sisters that are 15 and 13. After that, they didn’t come back; she had to live all by her self when she was only 14. But after a while her mother started to disturb her, she came to the house and took Constance’s stuff. Once she took her bed, but she returned it in a couple of weeks. Another time she turned of the electricity and told Constance that she had to pay her every week if she wanted electricity. Constance, who just got a job in a clothing store, didn’t get to keep a pound from what she earned; everything went straight to her mother. When it was time for Constance to go to college, she asked her mother if she could sign the papers. Her mother just said that Constance was stupid, that she didn’t need to go to college, because it was just a waste of time and money, she wouldn’t learn anything anyway. But Constance got in anyway and when she met a lawyer, she thought that “that’s what I want to be when I grow up, a lawyer.” After college she met this lawyer and learned a lot, and as I mentioned in the beginning of this reading log, she became a judge, one of the first black, female judges.
