Discussion: Understanding MIS Student: Michael Lance Professor: Matt Keogh The four competitive strategies are Operational excellence, New products, Services, and Business Models, and Customer and Supplier Intimacy and Improved Decision making. In the company I work for operational excellence and the use of information systems and technology is what has kept us in business. Operational excellence is trying to perfect a company’s efficiency and maximize profits in an ever changing market and environment. Also in the company I work for and have worked for now for 27 years there has been great changes in Services and business models more than new products. When servicing customers the company uses the internet for sales and letting customers know what inventory is available to them where in the past there had to be phone calls to marketing to know what was available. Also technology has replaced human decision making and know computers make all decisions. With all the Information and technology changes the company has become totally changed for the better in profits and production and customer service. Once again addressing customer and supplier intimacy has improved greatly over time with information systems and technology by using internet services so that customer can see inventory they need without having to call a company to see what is available. With these kinds of information systems in place for easy use by customers they will always come back to you. If a business today does not use up to date technology that business will close due to falling behind in revenue and production and quality of product and services to their customer. In the past a lot of business decision was based on projections done by humans and history, with the new technology and information systems a company can make an informed decision about new products, services, cost, and

Of Those Who Lived and Died

...third time she would claim that she saw it. She sat in the police department for she had just witnessed a crime. Mollie was a girl of just 19. She felt it in her head again. Mollie knew what was coming next. It was a flash of light. A man. A woman. She didn’t understand. But she had seen it all before. There was always something about Mollie. She saw things, heard things and felt things that people would never understand. That’s why he found her interesting. Oscar had always found her interesting. Oscar was a man of just 22. He had been stationed in the city of Franklin to work as a detective at his young age. This was his first week and he had heard the stories she told. No one could deny them false but no one could find the truth either. Mollie always told the police she had seen it happen in a dream but they never believed her. Oscar found her attractive. She was curious and different and that’s what grabbed him in the start. He wanted the key to her mind. “She’s back, is she? Yelled the sheriff. “It’s okay, I’ll deal with her” smiled Oscar. As he walked over to the girl in blue, he felt overcome by her eyes. She looked nervous and scared. All Oscar wanted to do was go home to bed, but he needed to understand her mind. “Hello, I’m Detective Oscar Scott, I’m here to ask about the three...

Speech Self Evaluation

...weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was a little thrown off with the note cards I must say. I kept on looking to that particular corner of the room because I was paranoid. I thought I made it as clear as I could have when informing about my thesis, main points and supporting material however I would like to see my peer evaluation from someone who knew little or nothing about the topic before the speech. I would rate my speech at a 7/10 (10 being the highest) just because I know I can do better. I feel like I wasn’t as organized as I should have been. I felt like I crammed everything in towards the end just to stay within my time boundaries. At the same time, I think I accomplished my goal pretty well for my first informative speech. I understand it is a learning experience and I am excited to give my next one. I recall having a good tone of voice and making sure that I was clear as well as making good eye contact. I do remember in class when preparing for the speech to remember to get the audience involved to the questions I asked in the speech came in handy. Overall I thought that I delivered my message well. Things that I know that I need to work on our having a better structure which I picked up a few things actually just from giving the speech and evaluating myself right when I sat down after I was in the front of the class. I think having a more organized structure will help me when fitting everything in my time limits. I would like to give myself an A, however I know...

...this information with your HOSTS coordinator or other professional at your observations site. What are their thoughts on these issues? My Answers: 1. Redshirting I feel is only needed in some cases. Like for example if the child is having difficultly in school or with making friends within the classroom. If the social skills of a child aren’t developing as it should I could understand why that would be necessary but for children that have fine socials I don’t think it is needed. High-Stakes testing in Kindergarten seems a bit much for me to understand. I do think it is important to see and get a feel for how your students are progressing but I feel like a teacher can do that without a test in kindergarten. I feel it is their job as a teacher to know each child well enough to know where they stand. If children are to young to understand the consequences of the test their taking it shouldn’t be given. Children develop social skill at different paces through out the years I see nothing wrong with just letting them develop in kindergarten; save the testing for third grade when they actually understand why they are taking it. Kindergarten entrance age is a topic talked about very currently in education. I believe this can be a good and a bad...

...But I can’t keep eating cheese sandwiches and I locked up in one room. ISS showed me how much I miss School and I will do anything to stay in school. And as a senior this does not look good on my school record. So I’m asking for another chance at going to homecoming and Pep-Rally mainly because this is my last year and my last year to enjoy with my class family. Also my little sister is running for homecoming freshman court and I would like to see her win. I’m not asking for much but another chance at everything. I know I was caught in the group shooting dice but I have never been in trouble for that type of thing I was just running with the wrong crowed and at the wrong time but I learned to start taking responsibility for myself. I understand I would not be in this situation if I was in class doing my work. I give my word that if you let me go, I would not get caught up in any more mess. I’m a good student with good grades and I just got on track this year and I’m ready to continue that. This was just minor set back for a major come back. ...To really understand the significance of how the military has molded me into the Sailor that I am today, I must reveal first some insight into the person I was before I left for basic training. When I graduated from high school in 2000 I was indestructibly ready to take on anything that came my way. I had managed to have had a somewhat decent unsheltered life in that my parents provided a warm and loving environment for my siblings and myself. We experienced all of the normal trials and tribulations as any of the other kids that grew up in the neighborhood with us. After graduating from high school in South Eastern Georgia, I wanted to get out of the small town of Sylvania and go see the world. I had originally planned to take a year or so off to figure out exactly what it was that I wanted to do with my life. My dad did not like that at all, but my mother was super excited. After being out of school for just a few months I began to get bored with bouncing from city to city. What was I going to do? Then right out of the blue it came to me. I wanted to see the world not just the cities on my bucket list. So I decided to go see a Navy recruiter. I swear that recruiter must have seen me coming from a mile away! I did not have the first clue of what I was doing, and the only thing that I can remember about this guy was that he did not look like Navy material and his last name was Rudolf like the reindeer. So as I begin to sign my life away to the Navy panic began to...

...The main attributes I most admire about myself is that I’m kind, honest, responsible, determined, and also being able to create great relationships with others. I have proven to not only others, but to myself that I can achieve anything. An anecdote that recently happened was when I was at Walmart. I was with my aunt buying groceries. As we were paying, I noticed an elderly woman was having trouble putting her groceries back in her cart. As she was dropping them, a part of me knew I had to help her or I would feel guilty and I ended up helping her. Another anecdote would be during school in class. During lessons, there are students who actually are focused on the lesson, but never fully understand it. If I understand it, I do whatever I can to help guide them through it step by step. My grades are my top priority at school because when it comes down to it that is what I will be judged on, not to mention my character. Character is everything. As stated in the dictionary, it is said that character is a “complex of mental and ethical traits“, that those traits, or qualities, are “distinctive to an individual” and that they are “built into an individual’s life.” It is those character qualities, those character traits that determine a person’s response in any given situation. I set goals and put in the time and effort to accomplish them. I believe that NHS does great things overall, and that I can play a part in furthering the impression that is made here. The National Honor Society...

...Fatoumatta Jaiteh ENGL 1312: Section 2 Dr. West-Fort October 1, 2013 A Response to "BARBIE Q" by Sandra Cisneros "Barbie Q!" I did not understand the title of the story at first but to my understanding, i thought the writer wanted to use the word "Barbie" instead of "Barbeque" to make it look "posh" and feminine. As we read the story in class, i got a better and deeper undstanding of the whole moral of the story and why she used the word "Barbie". When i saw "Titties" pg (339) i was like "wow," the writer is bold and no wonder they banned it. It seemed like two girls were playing with the dolls and making remarks about their dresses and comparing how glamorous they look. We were all kids at some point so i get that. These barbie dolls send negative messages to the children of today. When kids play with them, they tend to know about make up, boyfriend, the glitz and the glam etc at an early stage. Yes i understand it's good for a female to look good but not at age 3. You can look good for yourself. Some females are more secure when they wear make up some are not. I won't call myself a "feminist" but i stand and support womens rights. These kids might want to look like barbie at some point. Well, it's already happening e.g "Toodlers & Tiara's" is a perfect example of how mothers of today teach their kids to believe that if you do not wear tons of hair, jewelry, exposing dresses, heels & make up, you are not beautiful enough and society will not appreciate your natural...

Army Aviation in Low Intensity Conflict

...ARMY AVIATION OPERATIONS IN LOW INTENSITY CONFLICT Introduction “Foot slogging” by infantrymen has been most important and fundamental to address an insurgency; however, there are limitations to their mobility. To increase their versatility, the Portuguese introduced two contrasting means, the helicopter and the horse. While there were other, more conventional solutions to the mobility problem, such as trucks, jeeps, and light armored cars, these vehicles required at least crude roads, had other terrain limitations, and were vulnerable to land mines. The advent of the helicopter and its application in counter-insurgency began with the British in Malaya on 1 April 1950, with the formation of the Far East Casualty Air Evacuation Flight at Seletar with strength of three Westland S-51 Dragonfly helicopters. During the Malayan Emergency the British used their helicopters primarily for casualty evacuation and later for airlifting troops. Question that looms ahead for the future, no matter what the outcome in Jammu and Kashmir, and North Eastern States, is how the army aviation succeeds against fierce insurgency in strategy and capabilities. The Taliban’s resurgence, tenacious resistance against NATO forces in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda’s ability to elude United States forces, and the trouble Israel has had in trying to subdue violence in tiny Southern Lebanon (Hezbollah) and tinier Gaza (Hamas) deepen concern that even world’s finest militaries have problems against any kind...

Rizal: Hidden Beneath the Surface

...“He is our national hero” Or “He’s the person stamped on our 1-peso coin”. But is that all he really is? The movie “Bayaning 3rd World” is about two film makers trying to make a movie about Rizal. They found out, however, that this would not be an easy task, for their subject is a very complicated man. Rather than focusing on a single issue about Rizal, they decided to make a detective story about Rizal being the country’s national hero. They tackled several issues but focused mainly on Rizal’s retraction and Josephine Bracken. The movie was meant to be educational, but unlike most documentaries, “Bayaning 3rd World” is definitely not boring. The documentary was presented in a comical way, so that viewers of all ages would be able to understand it and grasp its meaning. I was confused at first because I didn’t know what the “Retraction Controversy” was and the two film makers started having these long conversations about it without explaining it to the viewers. But when I found out what it was all about, following the flow of the story became easy. Another controversy that arose was about Josephine Bracken, on whether she and Rizal were married or not. It was implied that if they were indeed married, then Rizal retracted for the church wouldn’t allow them to get married without doing so. It was further implied that if this was indeed true, then our national hero betrayed the country for a woman. The Retraction Controversy is about whether or not Rizal wrote and signed a document...
