The physicians are attempting to create more accessibility to patient information. For example, by having the same EHR as the hospital the physicians would be able to view laboratory results or radiological records rather than wait for results to be sent to them (Sayles, 2013). This creates a quicker response of care to the patients. Additionally, by this exchange of data, providing the ability to create orders in an instant for their patients admitted to the hospital. A disadvantage would be the potential cost to the affiliated physicians to acquire the same EHR, although, the concept of cloud computing is an option (Sayles, 2013). Another drawback of acquiring the same EHR is being compatible with the systems currently in place, such as a stand-alone system for prescribing medications.
The physicians are unable to send a medication order because the standalone device used by those physicians is not compatible with the hospitals’ current HIS system. …show more content…
