JWT2 Instructional Theory, Task One
With any classroom comes challenges and considerations regarding each student as an individual in their academic endeavors. Every year, each class brings a new set of personalities, learning styles, abilities and attitudes towards education. Students bring with them their own baggage of sorts that includes any disability or special ability, learning preferences and their attitudes that will shape how they will learn. These are all important considerations when creating curriculum for these students. If their styles, preferences, abilities, and attitudes are disregarded, it will be a lot harder to create success in the classroom for these students. Therefore, it is necessary to address any and all student challenges and preferences in a meaningful way that will allow for the success of all students in the classroom in all areas and subject materials.
Potential Challenges
When considering the whole class, there are some challenges present that require some modifications on a daily basis. This class is very social. This is not a negative, however, it can be a challenge for some students to complete individual work…show more content… Having a hands-on activity where students can visualize the problems and move the manipulatives around to show their thinking allows for more students to succeed. Having many visual and kinesthetic learners in this class means that I must find ways for my students to learn through activities and seeing these concepts in action before their eyes. That is why this lesson addresses the challenge of having a highly kinesthetic class of learners. Also, relating to visual aids is the use of a special font in the handouts. This font is designed for students with dyslexia to be able to read easier. This way, my student with dyslexia has a better chance at being able to read the instructions independently, but with the aid of a partner if
