Evaluate the appropriateness of business information used to make strategic decisions.
This report is to inform people about the appropriateness of business information that are used to make strategic decisions. Enterprise Rent-A-Car has developed a successful Graduate Trainee Programme. The programme allows graduates to receive classroom based orientation sessions on management. These sessions teach graduates business skills needed to be able to manage that branch themselves. This report will show the appropriateness of business information used to make strategic decisions. Moreover, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has introduced a “pick-up service”. These services are available only in the UK and have a limited pick up locations. The least amount of hours that you can rent a car with picking up is 24 hours, while the maximum is 48 consecutive hours. A vehicle class of manual or automatic can be determined on which upon the car that a client chooses to be picked up in can be selected from a variety of available cars. The renter’s age group must be given. In this report, will show the appropriateness of the information given on the website for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and this report will conclude with recommendations on how to include additional information and make the website more suitable.
Background on Enterprise Rent-A-Car
Back in 1957, Enterprise rent-a-car was found, as a result of in those days, it was referred to as executive Leasing. However, the thinking behind the business hasn’t modified much down the years. Founder Jack Taylor’s visionary idea was that customers would see the advantages of leasing cars instead of buying them.
In 1974 an enterprising rental manager in Orlando started a new pick-up programme that provided customers with a free ride to the rental office. As this new service quickly spread to other branches, it set an example for other people seeing their own great ideas being taken company-wide. The mid 1990s saw Enterprise make its first steps into Europe. In 1994, we opened our first European branch in Reading, UK, a country where we now operate more than 400 branches and have over 3,500 employees. Offices in Ireland and Germany followed in 1997 and have since grown to over 20 and more than 190 branches. And now here we are, with over 8,600 locations worldwide, a fleet far in excess of one million vehicles and an extended global family of more than 83,000 enterprising employees and plenty of management trainees learning the ropes. All of this growth and expansion comes from Jack’s personal philosophy that if you take care of your customers and employees first, the profits will follow.

The Graduate Trainee Programme
The decision that has been made due to noticing that graduate students often do not possess the abilities required for the job that they are applying for, and thus if the job is given to that graduate, the graduate needs training. This makes Enterprise Rent-A-Car spend their budget on training the staff, instead of investment. Internal research has been collected with the use of open end interviews during which Enterprise Rent-A-Car has finished new staff concerning their opinions on a trainee programme being introduced for graduates. On the other hand, an external research may be Enterprise Rent-A-Car visiting different universities to interview business graduates and asking them regarding their opinions on a graduate trainee programme being introduced. Moreover, an external research being done with the use of internet on statistics showing what percentage of a their budget do different businesses spend on training and how a lot of the graduate training programme value and bring turnover to Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Based on the results of the research that Enterprise Rent-A-Car hope to get, the sources wherever the information has been collected may be appropriate. Due to one of the internal researches being a discussion with the managing director for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the source is appropriate as the managing director may be a reliable source of information that will give Enterprise Rent-A-Car with the information that they need regarding their budget and if the budget allows them to speculate in creating the graduate trainee programme. The other internal research may also be appropriate for Enterprise Rent-A-Car to gain information as they are asking the employees if a graduate programme can benefit them and also the company. This is often an appropriate source of information as Enterprise Rent-A-Car is involving the employees in the decision process. Graduates are a reliable source of information as they are those which will be looking for jobs soon and their opinions if a graduate trainee programme ought to be introduced or not matters to Enterprise Rent-A-Car as they are the potential employees and possible participants.
On the other hand, I think the research can be improved by doing more interviews with external candidates that have applied for the job and have good experience. Also, they should do more interviews with the new employees as well as employees that have been with Enterprise Rent-A-Car for a long period of time. The external factors for Enterprise can be improved by not just visiting universities and interviewing graduates but also interviewing undergraduates and taking candidates on from a different courses, as well as interviewing candidates from sixth form/colleges. This will help Enterprise Rent-A-Car get a varied range of opinions about introducing the graduate trainee programme.
To conclude, Enterprise Rent-A-Car has introduced the graduate trainee programme which would benefit them in the future. They have looked into both internal and external factors, whether or not they should introduce the programme, their decision wouldn’t be rushed but well thought through.

Pick-Up Service
The decision has been made due to receiving many suggestions, requests and questions from clients. A research is being carried out and Enterprise Rent-A-Car has made a decision to send out surveys through emails, mails, and text messages. In these surveys, Enterprise asked their clients about their opinion on the new pick up service. Greater percentage of the clients that answered have decided that pick up services would be a good idea, meaning it would be taken into consideration by Enterprise. Moreover, the company have decided to research about their competitors and if Enterprise should investigate into pick up services. Furthermore, an internal research has been taken into consideration, as to see if the company’s budget would allow pick up services to be introduced into the business. Enterprise has to take various things into consideration such as, hiring new staff, training new staff, providing vehicles, how much the pick up services would cost the company, estimated profit, locations of which they will provide and many more. With these things taken into consideration they will think about whether they should make the decision of introducing pick up services.
However, the internal and external research can be improved. The external research can be improved by sending out more surveys, therefore, making sure there’s a higher response rate, meaning, a bigger chance of pick up services being introduced. Furthermore, the internal research can be increased by increasing the number of meetings to discuss the company’s budget and deciding if they should introduce pick up services and if it would benefit the company. Enterprise also have to take into consideration about how much it would cost to introduce the pick up services and if the business makes profit from the pick up service.
To conclude, Enterprise have introduced the “We’ll pick you up service”, as taken into consideration from their clients opinions. Also, they have looked at the internal and external factors, whether they take up the decision of introducing the “We’ll pick you up service”. After looking at the internal and external factors, the Enterprise team can make an open minded decision.
