I did a few extracurricular activities, but unfortunately I didn’t do very much of volunteering. As I entered my high school years, I knew that I would have to find resources to help me with my academics, especially since my family wasn’t able to because of their English language barriers and not getting past a high school education. I began my search for support found a program called Upward Bound that provides fundamental support via summer college classes, SAT tutoring, Saturday College, and tutoring. Throughout my time in high school, I have taken advantage of their support; I have asked for tutors, fee waivers, recommendation letters, opportunities for possible jobs, classes and numerous other questions. I was able to put the SAT skills to use when I had to take the SAT in November and I honestly felt that I improved. …show more content…
During my junior year, one of the toughest years for me, I received the most help from this program, especially in my English and AP Chemistry class. I wanted to excel in my classes because I was struggling with understanding the content. I went to the office everyday from when it was open in the beginning of the year to the end of the school year. I cannot emphasize how difficult that year was for me, but regardless I believed that I could accomplish more and improve my grades. I excelled in improving my studying habits and received an award as an accomplishment for my academic success. During the 2014-15 summer program, there was a race to see who would qualify to win a 2 week trip to stay in a college dorm. What they looked at was the grades and recommendations from advisors and professors. I was fortunate enough that my hard work paid off because I was one of the students chosen to be part of it, and I received many acknowledgements for my
