Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:
• Is the source reliable? How do you know?
Yes, the source is reliable as the authors are established authors. They have published the journal after conducting a survey of low income pregnant women in Klamath County, Oregon. They also conducted camps where women from low income groups were given free and regular dental check up so as to prevent the transmission of infectious bacteria from mother to the infant. This is also conducted at other counties, and a statistical analysis of the research and test conducted were studied. The results showed that children of mother in Klamath County were 1.5 times more likely to caries free than the children of mothers of other counties.
• Is the information relevant to the topic?
Yes, the information is very much relevant to the topic. The tests conducted and the graphs produced from statistical analysis show the results as positive.
• Does the information reflect a bias on the author’s part? If so, what is the bias?
No. the authors have been unbiased in their study and research. They have not taken sides of any particular County and have not projected fabricated results. The research and the tests conducted are genuine and factual.
Source 2
• Author: Reynolds, Sharon • Date: Sep 25 2007 • Title: Targeting blood cancers at the source. • Publication: US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), 2007
Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:
• Is the source reliable? How do you know?
The source is reliable as it has been published by the US department of health and human services. This is a government organization and they will publish such data and statistics, which is accurate and only after much survey and research. The paper talks about the identification of cells with properties such as those which can self renew to make more cells of the same type and make up for most of the tumor cells. When treated with imatinib, showed signs of improvement and responded well. Doctors believe this is due to the ability of imatinib to make the cancer cells dormant.
• Is the information relevant to the topic?
Yes, it is. The topic is targeting blood cells at the source, the source is the tumor from which the cancer cells emerge and multiply. Hence, by targeting and trying to minimize the proliferation of cancel cells at their root is the solution to the problem. This is what is discussed in the paper, and how patients have benefitted by the usage of the imatinib drug along with chemotherapy.
• Does the information reflect a bias on the author’s part? If so, what is the bias?
No, the author is completely unbiased in her writings. She sticks to the main topic and does not deviate at any point in time. She completely supports the patients’ response to the drug and chemotherapy and is very concise in putting forth her point clearly.
