...The Damaging Effects of Bullying, Why It Needs to Stop, and How to Stop It There are many problems in our school system today, but the number one problem, in my opinion, is bullying. “An Analysis of School Anti-Bullying Laws in the United States,” written by Maryellen Kueny and Perry Zirkel, states that “bullying has been a persistent problem in middle level and high schools.” According to Kueny and Zirkel’s article, “an early national study found that among sixth through twelfth graders, 56% of students witnessed bullying and 71% know of a peer who is being bullied.” In the same article mentioned before, “a study of bullying in American schools found 86% of students in grade 6 through 10 engaged in bullying sometimes or more frequently.” As you can see bullying plays a big role in our school systems today and causes many problems not just for the student being bullied but for the bullies themselves. Bullying should be put to an end because it causes damage to those who are bullied and the bullies, as well. Physical bullying, verbal bullying, convert or hidden bullying, and cyberbully are the four main types of bullying. Out of the four types, verbal bullying and cyberbullying are the most common. Verbal bullies use words to harm others through name-calling, insulting, making racist comments, or harsh teasing. Cyberbullying can happen at any time. The Alannah and Madeline Foundation says that cyberbullying includes: “abusive or hurtful texts, emails, posts, images or videos...

Bullying is defined as repeated, systematic efforts to inflict harm through physical, verbal, or social attack on a weaker person. The bullying may consist of taunting, name calling or actual physical harm inflicted on the victims. ...looks at bullying and other forms of violence in a school setup, at work and through the social media. In definition, bullying can be defined as the act of using force, coercion or threat to intimidate, abuse or imposing aggressive dominion over others (Kuykendall, 2012). Some people argue that for such a behavior to fit the definition of bullying, it has to be habitual and repetitive. It may not necessarily be the case since there may be a particular person who likes picking on his colleagues after a long time. As long as the act involves the characteristics of coercion, threats, and use of force meant to intimidate abuse or impose aggressive dominion, then the act qualifies as bullying. In a situation where there is continued bullying, a prerequisite perception always comes into the mind of a bully or any other party involved: physical and the social power imbalance. There are many behaviors that qualify as bullying especially when they are directed towards a particular person on a repetitive manner. These behaviors include; threats, verbal harassments, coercion, physical assaults and many other mean acts towards an intended individual. There are also many factors that are highlighted as justifications of bullying including; sexuality, religion, class, gender, race, personality, lineage, body language, appearance, reputation, behavior, size, strength or ability (Kuykendall, 2012). All of these are rationalizations that are heighted as causing factors of bullying behaviors...

...Bullying Report Lorrie George BSHS/325 September 15, 2014 Erin Jacobs Bullying Report Bullying has become a very serious issue that affects school aged children and adolescents in today’s society. Bullying can happen to any child ranging in ages from children in kindergarten all the way to seniors in high school, and can be done physically, emotionally, verbally. Bullying is not only limited to schools, it can also be done in the child’s home and where the child works. Studying the issue of bullying and how it affects human development is extremely important. It is also important to gain an understanding of the child’s life to understand why it is that he or she is bullying. Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) reports that “studies suggest that kids who bully are more than likely to have been raised in a home where physical punishment is used as discipline” (n.d.). Learning which factors influence an individual to become a bully will allow the appropriate treatment to be administered to help the individual. Bullying not only hurts a person physically, mentally, and emotionally; it can also result in devastating consequences. Individuals who are being bullied have more negative health indicators that include violent behavior, depression and risk of suicide, physical health problems, poorer quality of life, delinquency, school and psycho-social maladjustment, and risk of future psychiatric problems and disorders than can possibly follow them into...

...Bullying Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims. Of all the people who have considered suicide almost half have attempted. As easy as it is for someone to bully another it is almost impossible to get through for the victim, and often ends in a tragic outcome. Typically those who bully use their strength, popularity or power to harm, control or manipulate others. They usually target those who are weaker in size or may have a difficult time defending themselves. There are many major problems that can result in bullying in general. Recently there was a girl by the name of Amanda Todd, and she got bullied for a while after making a few bad decisions that got spread around and later committed suicide. Since the incident suicide awareness has been high. The problem with our society is it takes this girl to bring up suicide awareness when there was already thousands probably millions of others who have committed suicide. After the suicide a group of people made a support page on Facebook that now has over 800,000 likes. It’s great that they are showing her support now, but where were they before when she was crying for help. People don’t care about anything until they are gone. Another important problem is that everybody glorifies one person. Approximately 560 people commit suicide in America alone. And they don’t have a Facebook page or any type of support for that matter. We need to stop focusing on one thing and think about everything...

...What is bullying? Bullying defined Bullying is a repeated aggressive behavior where one person (or group of people) in a position of power deliberately intimidates, abuses, or coerces an individual with the intention to hurt that person physically or emotionally. Acts of bullying can be physical or verbal. Many young people can be unkind to each other during adolescence as they refine social skills and grow into adults. While these interactions are unpleasant, there is a clear line between conflict and bullying. Incidents of bullying must include all 3 of these characteristics: 1) Intentional- the behavior was aggressive and a deliberate attempt to hurt another person 2) Repeated- these aggressive actions occur repeatedly over time to the same person or group of people 3) Power imbalance- the person bullying has more physical or social power than the child or children being bullied Bullying almost always takes an emotional toll upon the child being bullied, but the actions that constitute bullying vary. There are four types of bullying, which can occur separately or simultaneously: 1) Physical bullying such as kicking or pushing 2) Verbal bullying such as name-calling or yelling 3) Relational bullying such as excluding or rumor-spreading 4) Cyberbullying which involves sending hurtful messages over digital devices like computers and cell phones. Cyberbullying continues to increase as digital media become more prevalent...

...Bullying in the Workplace Introduction In the United States, more than a third of the workforce have been tormented on the job, according to a 2010 survey by the Workplace Bullying Institute, a research and support group whose goals are to understand, correct and prevent all abuse at work. It has been estimated that about 30% of U.S. employees over the course of their work life experience some type of workplace bullying (Workplace Bullying Institute, 2010). What is Workplace Bullying? “Bullying,” by definition is the process of intimidating or mistreating somebody weaker or in a more vulnerable situation (Microsoft Word , 2007). Research has been done on the occurrence of workplace bullying, and it’s been found that bullying is not a rare occurrence, although it varies in the reporting of the incidents (International Small Business Journal, 2011). It is important to be familiar with the definition and the types of workplace bullying and report it to the proper people so it can be stopped. Types of Bullying There are several different things that are considered to be “bullying” if you experience it at your workplace. Bullying can be aggressive with screams or threats and it can be passive and be disguised and hard to identify. Here is a few of the things considered to be bullying: 1. Then the victims of these cases are told that they can find sanctuary with the anti-bullying programs implemented at the school, but Ph.D. holders in psychology and emotional intelligence Marc Brackett and Diana Divecha say otherwise. In the article, School Anti-Bullying Programs Ineffective by Marc Brackett and Diana Divecha, they argue that public school anti-bullying programs in the United States are unable to help students who are physically and emotionally bullied. The authors support their thesis with facts such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention declared that "bullying [had become] a major public health problem"(par. 4) and points out a reason why bullying had become such a prominent issue, is that the victims of bullying suffer from "depression, anxiety, low self-worth,... academic problems,... [and] extreme suicidal thoughts" (par.4)....

No one is immune to it, we are all capable of bullying. By no means is bullying right; often times the repercussions of being bullied are devastating. Although there is no Federal law currently in place to prevent bullying, there are discrimination and harassment laws and many states have anti-bullying laws; there is hope for the Federal government to follow suit in enacting anti-bullying laws. Bullying in the United States is continuing to get expand, but the awareness of bullying is also increasing. There are several ideas of what exactly bullying is. ...Bullying Report BSHS/325 INTRODUCTION What is bullying? Webster Dictionary defines bullying as: use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants. Let’s look at this from the vision of adolescents (victims) and see how it effects them in their developmental stages. How we can identify? How we can help? Normal adolescents development is characterized by a mismatch between fundamental drives and self regulatory skills that manifest as difficulties with expressing thoughts and feelings. Understanding another’s point of view and predicting consequences of ones actions. This explains why bullying occurs most often in late primary school and early high school, when this mismatch peaks. Although, bullying can be minimized it is unlikely that bullying can be entirely eliminated. Bullying has long been perceived as an inescapable part of growing up, recent American survey shows that children aged 8-15 years rate bullying as a big problem than racism or even peer pressure to have sex, use alcohol, and other drugs. Young people with serious psychological problems might occur problems related to attention, behavior, and emotional regulation which interfere with their ability to learn. A study from the United States of America, also found that the attackers in more than...
