When I began the WRTG 101 class, I was self-assured that I already possessed the basic skills needed to successfully write essays for my lower level courses. I had already taken a 364-level behavioral science class through the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) and did well on the writing assignments included in the course work. Because of my success in those previous writing assignments, I was confident that I would not learn a great deal more from an introductory writing course. However, as I reflect back on my experiences from WRTG 101, I am left humbled by the amount of material I was still able to learn from a beginner’s writing course. Not only did the class hone my writing skills further, I also learned how to effectively use UMUC’s library search tool and I improved my critical …show more content…
The lessons I’ve learned from WRTG 101 have helped me hone my writing skills. While I have been able to complete essays and other writing assignments with skills previously developed in high school, I knew that my writing wasn’t as decent as it could be. The writing assignments given in this course afforded me the practice I needed to improve. The biggest reason for this improvement was the helpful feedback given by the professor. In previous classes, the instructors did not point out as many areas of improvement in my essays that I feel they could have. Another way this class helped sharpen my writing skills was the lessons given on citing sources, which were taught in a way that was easier for me to understand. For example, in week 5, a video was provided showing how to cite sources in a paragraph. The video did not just explain the different
